  • The Trollstigen (Trolls' ladder) Mountain Road is one of Norway's most dramatic and most visited attractions. The historic Trollstigen road, with its 11 hairpin bends, was opened in 1936,
    Trollstigen has a steep incline of 9 percent and consists of 11 hairpin bends up a steep mountainside. Encircling the road are lofty mountains. Names such as Kongen (the King), Dronningen (the Queen) and Bispen(the Bishop) confirm their majesty.

    Not dangerous at all but one of the most beautiful driving experiences you will ever have. We have been to Norway four times so far and are looking forward to coming back as soon as possible. Each time we’ve spent at least three weeks driving to see the countryside and meet the wonderful people. Hard pressed to choose between Norway and Iceland.

    Come on! This is NOT the most dangerous road in Europe. It's quite okay to drive on it. Even busses, caravans and RV's are driving in Trollstigen without problems. Trust me, I know it. I live only 80 km from it.

      the most dangerous road in world is Death Road in Bolivia still used by extreme people, but there is a highway built near it for those that don't want to risk, highway was built in this century somewhere, before, people had to risk and many ended up dying.

I have no idea how I survived. I still don't know how people survive driving there. I decided to leave the area, never to return.

    Certainly way less dangerous than a lot of roads we have in Ireland. As one of Ireland’s Norwegian immigrants, I can certainly tell you Trollstigen is child’s play compared to some of the Kerry and West Cork peninsula drives. They’re closer to Bolivian mountain crossings if you ask me.

    • @politicallycorrectredskin796
      @politicallycorrectredskin796 Před 4 lety

      It rains and snows a lot in this part of Norway. Slippery roads are the biggest problem you'll face. The road is only relatively wide as long as the steering wheel works.

    • @theragingcyclone
      @theragingcyclone Před 4 lety

      @@politicallycorrectredskin796 Not sure what you are complaining about. There are two reasons for the slippery road, one because of ice on the road and another one because of poor construction and maintenance. If the road is well built and maintained then ice problems can be mitigated by using type chains and driving slow. But otherwise, its good to drive. On the other hand when road is bumpy and poorly maintained then you not only has ice problem but also bumpy ride and potholes as well.

    This road isnt dangerous at all, it is extremely spectacular though and a masterpiece of engineering and planning. It is best enjoyed outside of the tourist season though, driving up or down in a queue is not recommended. But if one wants to drive a truly challenging road try Aursjøvegen from Eikesdalen, it makes this look like an autostrada, narrow gravelroad with sheer cliffs on both sides and no crash barrier in some places. And the most wonderful view you can imagine.
