#clutterfree - ZĂĄbava
I'm so happy to be back (every Sunday) !!! I hope you guys have had a great start to 2023! I can't wait to share my announcement with you! I'm going to post a very short video randomly this week, so turn on that bell đ. What are your anti-shopping goals for the year!??!
My Mom always said " Cheaper is Expensive".
Very well said, mom. I need to borrow that phrase. đ
In Spanish, we have the exact same phrase, "lo barato sale caro."
Saludos from Argentina đŠđ·
Thatâs why Iâve always shopped at thrift stores and garage sales. I prefer quality stuff but not the price. This past summer I found a Coach purse for $8.00 and a Fossil wallet for $2.00 at two different sales on the same street.( the color of the leather even matched). I gave them some serious love with leather cleaner, saddle soap, shoe polish, etc. and love them! ( I already had all of the supplies, which are neatly organized in a cabinet in my ample basement but I totally agree with what you said about the DIY supplies and nail supplies in your tiny apartments and frequent moves.)
My mom had a similar saying: "We're too poor to buy cheap."
The older I get, the more I understand and appreciate this sentence.
Get a clear nail polish for when you canât go to the salon. The good ones last SO long and you donât have to worry about chipping. Your nails look shiny and healthy. For socks, always get the same packs of white and black. When one gets a hole, you still have a match. Put them in a basket- no matching, no I canât where this pair because one never came out of the dryer, and no worries about finding more just like them.
So true about the clear polish! It looks đ so good!
I turned sixty this year, and I also moved. It was a shock to realize that I owned enough socks to last me the entirety of my remaining natural life đ€Ș Apparently my legacy project is giving away all the hoarded unworn ones đ€Šđ»
Bahahahahahahahahahahahaha I have a very hilarious view of you handing out socks for Halloween đ
@@SpaceMakerMethod Well that will endear me to my new neighborsâ kids, now wonât it? đđ€Ł
I kicked off my shoes and my brother-in-law said, "you can see your heels through your socks they are so worn." Yep, I wear everything until it's worn out because I hate to shop. My sister passed away recently so my bother-in-law offered me her socks and I was amazed that all her socks were high priced name brand socks! I told brother-in-law when I buy socks, I buy the 15 in a package, no name, made in some unknown country, for $6 socks. LOL! I feel like a queen when I put on my inherited name brand socks.
that is so funny.... my mom bought me some socks when I was 13 and I am still using them, cos I use one thing at the time, and so I have some new pairs still.....
I 100% feel you on the cheap dupes. Last year I used a lot of shopping sites that don't have good quality items because its cheaper. I regret almost all of the purchases from that site so this year I'll stay away from those sites and try to buy from more small businesses
Yesssss!!!! Itâs so tempting with the price, but they rarely last! I feel ya!
I have started to make a dent in my cute notebooks this year. I love stuff like pen and paper, folders... I use it a lot but I have definitly way more than necessary. When I had to pack all of it up for my move I was so shocked. And that stuff is heavy to transport! So I transformed one notebook in a calender/notebook for this and next year. And I try not to buy anything new but use what I have.
Stationary is another one of those items that really seem to multiply! And so true.. they're SO heavy and take up so much space. Good luck on not buying any this year!!!
Same! I just love cute notebooks. Especially the seasonal ones and I have to store them for literally 10-11 months before I can pull them out again. But then there are new ones every year. So I buy those too. Before you know it, I have 6-10 random Halloween and Christmas notebooks. Iâm a mess!
I am trying to remember this when we move! I am slowly taking apart or throwing finished planners / notebooks so it will be lighter when we move
I stopped buying nail polish years ago and have not missed it one bit!
Do you just leave them bare?
My list is very similar to yours. The bottom line for me is: If it's going to take time away from activities that are truly important to me, or if it's going to take up space in my small house that already lacks storage space, then I don't want to bring it home (or keep it in my home). So I'm letting go of DIY projects around the house, and I'm also donating extra things instead of trying to sell them. Those are two types of things that tend to eat up my precious time and space.
Absolutely!! I loved projects but man the space they take up is just insane.
The container method really helps with my nail polish hoard. If I am tempted to get a new color, ik I have to want it more than what I already have in my little supply box because there's no more room. Something would have to go.
Love it!
I'm doing a use or lose it challenge, have a stash of new socks, nightshirts, t-shirts, stationary and food to use up. So done with shopping.
Love it!
Thank you April for this video. I couldn't agree more with you especially given the fact I'm living overseas and being a foreigner, there's always a possibility of uprooting again and moving home or elsewhere.
I'm into DIY and orchids. And these 2 hobbies take up too much space in my very tiny apartment in Tokyo. I have decided to step back and try looking for other hobbies though it's not easy. Same goes for home decor and even furniture. Every youtube video says to splurge and invest in some quality pieces. I feel really conflicted about this because my home in a foreign land is the place that anchors me and I love interior design. But at the end of the day, I know I might have to part with some of the beloved pieces eventually. Including my lovely orchids. But I keep telling myself that I only live once and should not be held back by the unforeseen future too much. Instead, try to achieve a balance and also live the moment and be mindful about the things I keep close to me.
Looking forward to more of your adventures. Xx
I so feel ya on this. Iâve battled with that for years and eventually settled on that same thing, itâs about balance and making a home of wherever you are. Over the years Iâve tried to be more intentional with what those specific items are that make me feel healthy and at home. And for what itâs worth, Iâve never once regretted settling into a place. đđ„°
Great that you starting new habits and think sustainable consuming. Way to go #2023!
OMG you are exactly right. Those things bring a lot of mess to the home. Scratches to Izzy. Hugs
She said thank you đ»
It's so nice to see you back. I missed you!
Thank you! The time off posting was refreshing and needed, but Iâm so glad to be back now!
So on board here. our house is FULL. We don't need more.
đ„°
Very good ideas, Iâm tryingđ
I love this! Your no-buy sounds like you are curating your space. It made me think of Rajiv Surendra
Absolutely! Live and learn!
I've missed you Suitcase Designer đ I have been decluttering and organizing around the house and every time I'm amazed how quickly I finish and wonder why I had procrastinated for so long. My anti-shopping list includes sewing supplies because I need to finish the projects I have already started.
I am right with you on that one. I need to include knitting and crocheting as well! đ
đ hahaha not too mention how much better it makes you feel when youâve finished d & o too! But we all do it đ€Ș - sewing is another one of those that just adds up!
ME TOOOOOOOOOOOO I was so desperate she was not around and for so long....
You are wise beyond your years. It's taken me so long to NOT follow all the trends that are out there. I get SO excited. Now I stick to my favorite nail polish, make up etc. hoping they don't discontinue that product...LOL Can't wait to hear your announcement! LKMH
Oh Iâm still tempted by trends in other areas, especially with social media⊠the excitement is there in a big way đ€Ș but I suppose being a little basic is quiet liberating and less time consuming đ
@@SpaceMakerMethod you're a smart girl and you know that it's needs versus wants, and priorities.
I have been downsizing my scrapbook room. I had so much paper and I knew I wouldnât use it all up so I went thru it and got rid of a lot. I will be having a garage sale in the spring so I know it will go fast. If not, itâs going to the Goodwill. I had enough stuff for my own store. I havenât bought anything except groceries in the last four months and I feel good about. Love Izzy in this video! Thanks for the advice!đđ„°đ
You might consider donating scrapbook supplies to a close-by elementary school too. The art teachers appreciate them if suitable. đ
Scrapbooking material is also one of those âmagically duplicatesâ items đ”âđ« I hope your sale goes well!
Iâm so happy I found you again. Watched you decorate your Momâs and Mother-in-lawâs houses. I knew you were moving but just found you. Please post.
Yes, I could not agree more!!
đ
Iâve mentioned before about my tshirt obsession. I have vowed to myself NO MORE! I am going to wear the ones (50+đł) I have until they have tears or stains. I probably have enough for the next decade at least. Also with you on the makeup issue. I almost never wear it, but I get sucked right in when I see it on CZcams, and have to try it. Just refusing to buy anything in these to categories should save me $$$. Looking forward to your news. Iâm sure itâs going to be great, because you are looking really happy and relaxed lately.
Itâs hard not to give in to social media. Iâve never had a card linked to direct shopping from Instagram, but Iâm sure thatâs be a dangerous thing these days đ”âđ«đ are these any special variety of shirts?
@@SpaceMakerMethod I have several from the company I worked for as an explosives detection dog handler in Iraq, several for 5k and 10k runs Ive participated in, animal rescue groups I support, but mostly, just because buy them because theyâre comfortableđ.
Thank you for all the good points. I have been thinking sort of the same thing. Itâs nice to hear them out load to let it resonate with me clearly.
đ»đđ
Youâve made some really good points here!! The one that resonates with me is buying the cheap dupes
If you grew up with less financial means, itâs really hard to get past that one (or at least for me). Itâs like, why would I spend more when I can spend less? (Reality: it breaks and youâll end up spending more time and money on somethifnnnew) But itâs still hard to mentally get move on from.
Love this, clear my house, clear my brain â€ïžđ§
Glad the channel is back. Love the vlogs one too. This year Iâm not buying anymore pens. I have so many and I use them but not enough to justify buying more. Plus Iâve recently started Decluttering thanks to your channel and I am now more mindful about things in my space and how many I have of things such as pens. đ
I love it! Pens can really sneak up on you, especially if theyâre spread throughout the house too! Stay strong out there đ
These are some great tips and at least some sensible reminders for myself. I suggest another video in a year to let us know how your commitments worked out for you. đâ€ïžâ€ïž
Oh yes! Letâs do a check in!!
Yeah, so glad you're back! Can't wait for your big announcement.
Yay, thank you! Canât wait to share!!
Great video!
Thanks!
Currently watching can't wait to find out the news!
đđđđđ
@@SpaceMakerMethod O guess I will have to wait a bit longer đ đ€
Love you in that red! â€
Great discussion! Makes a lot of sense and Iâm glad you put it all out there. No socks - Izzy gets by with one pair! đ»
Thank you đ„°đ
Izzy's tootsies. Can we just have a moment for how adorable those are? The 'footage' in the socks section. đ
I'm with you I have so much diy stuff, I'm over the waste.
Weâre going to become the anti-diy channel now đ€Ł
I have my own buy nothing list for this year: socks my drawer is packed, winter hats, bath bombs, moisture masks, makeup, greeting cards, sweaters, candles, shoes and boots.
Nice! I feel like those could be on all our lists. That's great!
I totally understand the cheaper version of things, who boy đ€Ł I don't really buy decor, I've seen youtubers with cupboards full of them. Don't you touch my makeup đđ but I'm always passing makeup down to my girls. Omg, I need more undies and I cycle through them all so they all get used and socks are starting to get holy (and I'm not talking religious lol) but you are absolutely right, it's all about intentional purchases for less waste. đđđđđđđđđđđđđ
It sounds like youâve figured out what balance works for you. I think itâs normal for everyone to have their thing (collection). Mine is skincare. I guess itâs similar to eating healthy. If you restrict yourself 100% of the time, the whole system tends to backfire
@@SpaceMakerMethod yeah, took me a while, I'm 55 đ€Ł much love to your little family đđ
My anti shopping list for 2023: tea, candles, clearance clothes
Yes!! And candles too! I think I mentioned something about candles in the next video too. And tea⊠thatâs another item that seems to magically duplicate. đ
Iâm doing better with not buying anything, going through what I have. Iâm in my 50âs and got rid of almost all my summer sandals, currently working on winter. Only keeping the âOreoâ based sandals and shoes. Same with clothes, it itâs not comfy, it goes away! Good to see you back, enjoyed the Christmas videos too!
Summer sandals are another thing that really sneak up on you. Especially when I lived in Texas, this was a big thing. Iâll have to look up what âOreoâ shoes means
Mine...STOP shopping at IKEA, it's just an awful habit. And I'm with you on the DIY supplies, I had to stop as well. âș
Congrats of all you test results!!! So glad it's nothing life threatening.
I have trained myself not to buy a lot of the same things you have in your list. My makeup and nail polish sat unused for so long it all expired. I need to stock up on socks and unders though! Iâve worn a lot out.
Side note, I LOVE Nike socks (particularly the black ankle socks) because they last so long. Iâve had some of mine for about 5 years or more đ
I also love buying more expensive high quality items, in the end it saves me so much money. Also wanted to let you know that I love your natural hair colour :)
Thank you so much! Iâm so excited to let it grow out! And I feel ya, hereâs to buying quality over quantity this year đ„
I have never been able to wear 'cheap 'shoes as the fit has always been off for my comfort...socks however breed, but I do wear them all on rotation (I wear socks pretty much on a daily basis) so I don't feel too bad about that. Make up and nail polish are worn too infrequently to purchase often so I renew when I know I have a special function to wear it. There is one lipstick that I just can't let go off thoughđ€·đ
It sounds like you already have your anti shop list down!
You can use old clothes for poly-fil. You donât even have to rip. I use them to fill pillows. My List- Stationery Supplies, Mugs, Towel Paper(Replacing With Terry Cloth Towels).
I love your tip and anti-shopping list!
@@SpaceMakerMethod đ
Love this videoâŠ. The diy stuff never looks good and is expensive
Agreed
yep I am doing MORE recycling of what I own & wear. FORTUNATELY I sew, can alter clothing, etc. and create "new" from castoffs etc. I'm also an artist & am mechanically inclined.
Kind of a 'Jill of All Trades"đ Have been my whole life 'recycling but mostly the last 20yrs. has been no buy & downsizing
Me, who's just bought 3 new nail polishes to add to the collection of 50, feels very called out in this one đ
Bahahahahaha
đ My daughter used to have two IKEA Helmer cabinets full of nail polish and the supplies that go with it. Needless to say sheâs gotten rid (correctly) of ones she doesnât need.
I was just contemplating stopping any purchase of nail polish đ đ». I have so much. I did say no to expresso yourself, a gorgeous brown.
I stopped buying makeup a couple of years ago and craft supplies unless its glue ect. I did buy a little something the other day đ€«.
Not gonna buy clothes, im good with skincare. Though i did want 1 thing for valentines day. I have enough decor
I agree dupes dont work.
One thing i noticed about myself, if theres something online that i want to buy ill hold off, then i go to the store and buy things i dont need when i should of just put the money towards what i really want/need online.
Like an portable upholstery cleaner, a pressure washer, a good vacuum ect. I tend to not buy âbigâ purchases but some of those bigger purchases would make life easier, vs 10 $10 items ect.
Underwear is a different story đ, i could use some. My husband tends to wash all the colors together so my underwear starts looking dingy and beat up. Have yet to fine cute, quality reasonably priced ones. Any suggestions?
I couldnât agree more. I think a lot of us purchase lots of those cheaper items, but letâs get better with that this year! đ for underwear, I love finding good deals at Costco đ€Ł. They have some good Calvin Klein ones and I know itâs a splurge, but I really love Skims underwear. I buy them on sale tho, but Iâve had mine for almost 2 years and theyâre still going strong and are my favorites! Theyâre so comfy!
That was my list 5 years ago. Haven't look back on any of those.
Love it!
Yes, every single item you mentioned I have also decided against. The nail polish, man! I donÂŽt know how many I have thrown away through the years. No more.
Gosh same. It always sneaks back into our lives. đ”âđ«
Hi đ met you on eunnis channel đjust subscribed đ„ł
Hi đđ
Ohh YES TO ALL THE ABOVE hahhaa; donÂŽt get me started on the nail polish situation!!! 95% of the times I donÂŽt even were nail polish, I declutered many times and I keep buying to experiment, my bad. And shoes YES TOO, I turned 40 last year, and I promise my beloved feet I would never urge myself to buy enything less that good quality, healthy footweare never again.
The nail polish is so sneaky đ đ„ to our head of healthy backs đ
April, I have never bought a mug however I am always decluttering them, I don't know where they come from, I suspect that they are reproducing đ€Šđ»ââïž, can't wait for the news
Bahahaha seriously đ
Always get quality. You can cry when you buy it or cry every time you use it.
Bahahaha love it
†hi April. Promise Iâm not stalking you đ
đ€Șđđ„°
Lolđme2
The last few weeks I've been thinking of buying a digital piano but I've been thinking how I do not allocate time for knitting / painting either. So why would i bring a 40+ kg item into my tiny rental if it my cause occasional joy but will probably not use it as much...
Also, once I managed to buy the exact nail polish colour twice, over a year apart... and I don't even paint my nails... đ
đ€Ș that damn nail polish đ€Ł and I love that you went through that thought process before buying. It takes more work to process that than the impulse buy, good on you!
Yes at the shoes! Over 10 years ago I got a diagnosis in my hips and decided there and then NO MORE CHEAP SHOES. It blows my mind how long quality shoes last. I have some that are now going on 10 years! đ€Ż
10 years!! Thatâs awesome! I have 1 paid if chacos I still wear and I remember they were so expensive to me back then and now theyâre 13 years old! And still feel great! Once you go nice arch support you canât go back đ
The half-second clip of you massaging your catâs toe beans is the highlight of the video 7:19
I will clutter my home w all the beans in 2023 â€
đ
I feel a lot of pressure when it comes to holiday gift giving and am really curious what your holiday gift alternatives are? Maybe something edible instead?!
Iâve been giving gift cards the past two Christmases. One can still wrap/gift bag them for cuteness overload but itâs so much easier.
For the last few years I've been gifting experiences. Some things I've gifted before: theatre, concert or exhibition tickets, escape room experiences, adventure experiences, subscription for an indie movie streaming platform, cooking workshops, massages... There are so many options. Sometimes you can even gift the experience and make a full day out of it making a fun memory with your loved one.
Iâm still trying to figure that out! Iâm taking bites from you guys now đ
Great video! I'm stripping clutter from my bath while I listen. I think we all have the same habits when it comes to wanting the next thing that will solve all problems and erase 20 years of aging in a single application. Ha
Bahahaha absolutely đ€Ł
My thing is underwear I have at least 2packs of new ones in reserve trouble is the packs come in 5 s my friends think I m barmy but I was once down to 3 pairs and I promised myself I d never do it again !â€ïžđđŹđ§
Hahaha and thatâs not something youâd want to be low on đ could really ruin a day if youâre out đ
Whats your fav brand? Have not found one that lasts
I don't agree with sales. I do list of clothes, food shopping and then I match the precised product to sales. Thanks to sales I can save a lot of money and fulfill my other financial goals :)
Haha of course, do what works for you⊠this is just my personal list. đ
I have so many socks haha
đ€Șđ
Cute izzy tootsies
đ„° I thought it would be more appropriate to show her socks than mine đ„°
I'm italian and the biggest difference I can see with US people is the obsession with decor, sesonal decor, cheap decor.... I dont see that much in Italy...well I should say now girls on social medias are talking about it, in my opinion cos they want to imitate US influencers
but it never was a thing.... we have xmas, you take out your little presepe or decorate a tree and thats done
I'd like to tell u what I see when I watch all those things u use...maybe Im a bit hursh.... but I see a lot of money wasted, a lot of mess, confusion
I generally dont see beauty
for presents I solved the problem asking my friends and family NOT to give me anything
If you want to make me happy we can go for a coffee, or icecream... also I dont buy anymore souvenirs, If I want to buy something when Im on holiday I buy something to eat, either u like and use it or... very sadly ....u have to bin it
also I agree on buying better quality items for an higher price, BUT I have to tell u something very scary....this decision doesnt come from wiserness... .but from aging ....so it is possible that u are actually getting older đ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
Bahahaha so true on the age. Itâs normal to try all those things out when youâre younger and then you realize how much money youâre really wasting and how much you value quality over quantity đ«Łđ€Ș I love the idea of gifting experience over products đ thanks for sharing!
A person could always do DIY at places that offer classes. That way you just pay them and they buy the supplies. (Or is this a North American thing?đŹ).
Iâve heard others mention this and i personally havenât been to a place like this, but itâs such a great idea⊠especially in the city!
What's crazy to me is that we know nail polish is a hazardous material and yet folks keep using it on their nails! The amount of carcinogens in that stuff... yikes.
Haha gotta have them pretty nails đ€Ł
Worse than receiving holiday gifts, is receiving Holiday themed gifts!!! People do really believe that a Christmas mug, on Christmas, is a great gift!! Why? Just why?
đ€Șđ€Șđ€Șđ€Șđ€Șđ€Ș
I think I know what are you going to say âșïž, I can see on your faceđ€«đŒ
đ€
One thing I am not going to do this year is worry about recycling. In the trash, it goes.
Does recycling bring you anxiety? Or what is the turn off against it?
@@sheila3936, I am not against it, but I will not worry about finding a place that takes nail polish while China pours garbage into the ocean and governments say nothing.
I equate trendy decor with fast fashion, what a waste! Usually cheaply made and usually looks tacky. I canât stand the CZcams houses where everything is from Dollar Tree and Hobby Lobby.đ”âđ«đđŹ
I completely agree and Iâve been guilty of this myselfđ . Itâs amazing how much more elegant minimal decor can look.
@@SpaceMakerMethod Itâs the same with curated antiques,a few look elegant and meaningful.
The surprise is you are coming to declutter and organizing my house or maybe you are having a baby???
đ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
I gave up on âcuteâ
Yesssss!!!! Same! If I see something cute in the store, I take a moment to acknowledge how cute it is and then move on. That has been such a game changer, especially in the land of cute đ„°
