The Warrior of Light has been a huge part of the Final Fantasy franchise, as it not only served as the basis for the original story, but it has also had a heavy influence on many of the games that followed after.
Final Fantasy III (Ingus, Refia, Arc and Luneth) and Final Fantasy V (Bartz, Faris, Galuf and Lenna) followed it to a tee, while Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XV chose to adopt the Warrior of Light mythology for their storytelling
Throughout the video, we'll dive into the Warrior of Light trope, identifying what elements a story needs to adopt in order to qualify and how each game utilised it.

One of FF XV's best nods to the original FF game was at the end of chapter 1, where Noct and the bros are standing on a cliffside overlooking the bridge to Insomnia... just like how the original Warriors of Light ended the first part of their game on a cliffside overlooking the bridge to Cornelia.
Homage... or coincidence? I don't remember Cornelia being engulfed in flames at the time, after all...
I never made that connection! Good thinking.
I love you for this connection
FFXV has a lot of references to previous games
i'm playing the NES games rn, and i'm just now realizing how many references there are
Final fantasy 14s warrior of light is the strongest if you ask me. Going around beating up all the main antagonists of other final fantasies like it's nothing.
yea we beat the crap out of a lot of antagonist mentioned in this video. Best Warriors of Light ^__^
bruh having the blessing of light makes the ff14 warrior of light op. its like plot Armor
Not true. Se have said we're weaker than guts
Interestingly, the orbs from ff1 (or at least one of them, knows as the crystal eye) are in XIV, and it's explained that the power those orbs gave the original warriors of light far exceeded they power we get from our crystals of light. In fact, it explicity states that the further back you go, the stronger the blessing of light was meaning the strength of the warrior of light directly correlates to their appearance in the FF series, with the original Final Fantasy being the strongest.
Chihiro Kikuchi O.o SE does no spesk about XIV tho unless about Y'shtola... Unless you mean Yoshida say the WoL is the weakess and doubt he would ever say the in a interview or Live Letter. XD
Guys, seriously, XIV directly calls us the Warrior of Light, we nearly always fight with 3 companions, and now that Shadowbringers has the Trust system, we can take companions that aren't other players, but instead are the other supporting characters of the story, in to be our other 3. You could even draw a parallel between defeating the primals and going on the elemental journey at least as much as you do in this video with 13. Half marks at least for that. Also, we're chosen by Hydaelyn, a godlike entity analogous to those in 13 who got Lightning full marks for being chosen. Four people, at least, with some supporters who come and go. Chosen, duh, the powers don't come from our own desire to have them. Pilgrimage, half points, I mean we do have to attune to elemental aetherytes and fight elemental fiends in the form of primals. Otherworldly, certainly, as we go to the Void at least once in the Crystal Tower raid series, which is now canon to the MSQ, and then we also journey to the First to save it from Light in a direct homage to FF3's Warriors of Darkness.
Adding to this, XIV also had Ardbert and his crew who are chosen by Hydaelyn in their world then make a pilgrimage to the Source to save it. They too collect crystals and fight against elementals. They also make the ultimate sacrifice to save their world.
While our chosen WoL is the only one collection crystals, there are so far, four others who are willingly granted the same gift by Hydaelyn, being Minfillia, Ysayle, and Krile, two of which also make the ultimate sacrifice while aiding the main character. Ysayle and Krile journey to lands that are not their home to help in whatever way they can, and even with Arenvald and Makoto being included, each of them tick at least two boxes themselves.
@@TiztasticallyWicked Ysayle even had her own crystal, and its implied others have one too, we're just the only ones who get lots of them
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who noticed.
Don't forget that in ARR we collect elemental crystals as we defeat the primal so I say full marks on pilgrimage. I was so upset they didn't mention 14 at all. We're literally called the warrior of light and even if you argue that we're technically the solo warrior of light of our world it still hits every other mark. Plus there's ardbert and his friends as the four warriors of light of the first to take into account and we're basically the source's equivalent of them.
Holy shit Ultimecia being a reflection of Chaos explains her hair style looking like his horns:O
Kinda surprised there's not even a single mention of FFXIV
Maybe it's because the story is still ongoing?
Because the people behind this channel think FFXIV does not fit the Warrior of Light motif... for whatever bizarre reason.
It's not like are literally chosen by the planet, go on pilgrimages, attuning ourselves with the world itself, connected to the blessing of light and are the only ones chosen with saving the world or anything.
yeah i was hoping to hear about the references made to the warriors of darkness from ffxiv ; - ; i thought their story was quite interesting to the whole warrior of light stuff
That's the only reason I can think. We're still getting more info on what exactly the XIV WoL are or what they're capable of.
I never made the connection between FF1 and FFXV being so similar, makes me realize how and why its so nostalgic and why they said it was for old and new players
We all know who the true Warrior of Light is... Adelbert Steiner.
Great video as always ;)
Macilento | Comics & Manga Nope
Adam Hollger yah f that guy. He’s the dumb uncle who never fathers children even though he wants to but he can’t because of his incompetence.
What about the Gentleman of Light?
I used to do voices as a kid when FF came out as I grinded out levels.
Years later they made Steiner and it matched my vision of how I wanted a night.
Love that klanking armor
Considering how FF9 followed the original games’ concepts so much, it’s interesting to see that one of the things it didn’t incorporate was “the warrior of light”
Well it did have that one quest where you split your group into separate parties to get a crystal from 4 locations if I remember correctly. FF9 should have been an honorable mention. I suppose that quest was there just for more easter eggs or fan service though?
It has the theme of the mirror worlds (Terra and Gaia) that echoes the World of Light/World of Darkness cycle.
I like to think thats because they don't explore directly the duality of "light and darkness" like most FF, they explore the one of "life and death"
The pilgrimage of 8 was to go collect the GFs which are essential for SeeDs to combat the sorceress.
Another possible pilgrimage aspect for FFVIII is the quest pursuing Sqaull's Ellone/Laguna connection (first, finding Ellone, then finding Laguna who was himself searching for Ellone) in which the details of the Sorceress War and Ultemacia's plot to achieve Time Kompression were revealed.
I thought the point of FF8 was to get through it as fast as you could so you could go on to better titles in the series. ...though, to be fair, it is still better than 2...
Sorry to answer a 2 years comment. Ff8 is my favorite of the series, and they do have a pilgrimage, however it isnt to look for the elemental crystals, thats whats missing. For me tho the pilgrimage is about the story of laguna's and julia. Since they couldnt be together, squall and rinoa complete it, saving ellone along the way. Like uncle Laguna tried to do. The gf is most mostly non mandatory, except quetzalcoatl, shiva, ifrit and brothers. However it was a great analogy.
What the fuck.. josef fritzl??
To be fair in final fantasy xv gladio, prompto, and Ignis' roles are foretold in the prophecy (as seen in it's painting and the game's opening), making their roles more or less predestined, and Noctis does search for the crystalline weapons of his ancestors in deep dark caves to gain part of the power to save the world, which brings it yet closer to the original warrior of light motif.

Great video!
I want to add though, that FFIV has Warriors of Light albeit, more nuanced. They go on a "Pilgrimage" to find the Crystals, fight the Four Fiends and go to another World (the moon), to confront an Ancient Evil. Even the After Years follows this theme.
Omnibus4Everyone Also Cecil is a chosen one.
Exactly
Ha
Unbelievable video well done. No joke it brought a tear to my eye. Thank you
SAME HERE. 😭
You don't mention FF14. That game litteraly is about what it means to be the Warrior of light. The NPCs even straight out call you WoL.
Loved this video. Please, more like this.
Wow! Thank you so much for this. Your analysis was deep and enlightening. You made me look at the Final Fantasy franchise in a whole new light. Hahaha. Couldn't help the puns. You made me appreciate it more too!
This is the first video I've seen on your channel and I'm very impressed by the work you did! Consider me a fan and a subscriber!
This is the first video I see from you, and all I can say is keep on with the good job
This was fantastic. Great video!
Love the backing music for this video. Great stuff.
Cool vid! Learned quite a bit. Thank you!
FF3 was not a 3DS remake, it's just a normal DS remake.
It was also a reboot to some extend.
Nah. It was a remake. Still exactly the same game. In fact it has more in common with its original counterpart than it looks like the VII remake is going to have.
Game balance was completely different. Smaller monster packs. Sage extremely nerfed. Magic nerfed.
My favorite FF antagonist, School Leonhart.
Alfonso Matador LMAO
been looking for this ALL DAY still as great as i remember
Ff15 comrades has literal warriors of light. Its what the populace calls the kingsglaive who restore power to the world
This is such a good video! Thanks so much guys!
Ashe from my beloved FF12 is sort of a chosen one by Occuria on a pilgrimage.
Yes and gabranth, cid and vayne are all pawns that are directly involved with the main characters in some way
love your channel, I subbed.
Thanks Peter, much appreciated! ~Darryl/Lauren
I'm really sad there was no mention of FF14... That does nothing but SCREAM Warrior of Light....They tick everything on the chart, so I can't understand why you left it out :/
Perhaps it's because the story is still ongoing???
TigerWolf even if it's still ongoing... it still ticks all the boxes. I saw another comment after I made mine that was very informative, and FFUnion even replied saying that 14 should of been added and it was an oversight of theirs. Hopefully they start to add MMOs to their from now on.
2.0 alone ticked all the boxes and every expansion ticks them anew.
@@ChibiMachiChan I see. I was thinking it could be because the motif was placed different in XIV, as the WoL isn't a small group of heroes but rather just one hero (us), with the other players being just either fellow adventurers or bearers of the Echo helping you in some of the dungeons and boss fights
@@granmastersword Eh ... *spoilers*
The Echo is something everyone has. Dormant or not ... everyone is a sundered Ancient that possess "Echo", or Memories. The power of Memories is at the very core foundation of the game's narrative ( tho it doesn't ram this down people's throats, you have to spot it. And it's in everything).
As far as who accompanies you, the MC, in certain fights it has been written in to represent the MCs of the other splintered worlds and are all the "Echo" of one specific Ancient... which has been made clear as day who we truly are despite not having been spoken in confirmation, yet. The visual of the silhouette of the "WoL" on the moon with either the Sun or Hydaelyn in the background in the new teaser trailer (as I write this) paints the picture quite... bluntly.
FF XII kind of uses the warrior of light motif as well in a lesser extend: We have Ashe as the chosen one by Occuria and she travels the world in searching for relics of power (one of those is even a nethicite; the equivalent of the classic crystals).
My thoughts exactly
Loved this video.. i would also enjoy videos based around specific FF things, like airshps or special/secret/super bosses.
This video made me love ff8 ,ff10 ,and ff13 a lot more than I already do. Never really made the warrior of light comparison until this video.
10 and 13 both suck.
@TragicHeroMat
Anything is better than FF8....
well except Tactics.
Well done. It brings back a lot of good memories as FFI was my fist Final Fantasy. I bought that one, plus LoZ Gold Cartridge. I spent hours playing these games.
I cannot wait to see more information from you all.
Oh! I’d like Locke from FFVI next. :-)
Noctis: Fire
Gladiolus: Earth
Ignis: Water
Prompto: Air
uh, i don't think so lol
Ignis's name literally means fire
Something you missed that Ive always found interesting (and perhaps one of the few aspects I think XIII did right). In XIII the concept of the Warriors of Light is subverted. Rather than being something good, being Branded was considered a fate worse than death. The parallels are also much more prominent than the preceding games (at least the ones that came after V). The heroes were chosen by a fal'Cie (a literal living Crystal encased in robotic armor) with a mission to destroy the world rather than save it (which ended up saving the World anyway in another way) and were given magical abilities (much like the jobs bestowed upon the Warriors by the Crystals in III and V) It showed in more detail that the Warriors are often chosen agaisnt their will. This was the purpose of the Fabulla Nova Crystallis compilation from the get go, to take established tropes from the series and paint them in a new light. And I like how it was done in this case even if the game around it Wasn't as enjoyable.
Yeah I came to the comments to say a similar thing. I think people forget rhat the falcie are just crystals with robotic bodies. And in XIII - 1 the only way people could do magic was when it was when they became a L'cie. In other words, grant power and a destiny by a crystal.
This makes me realize that, spoilers for FFXIV, the Unsundered Ancients can be considered Warriors of Light. There are three of them, Lahabrea, Emet-Selch, and Elidibus, but if we include Venat/Hydelaen it makes 4. They are trying to save their world, and similar to the time travel of 8, when our character goes back in time to Elpis, they inadvertantly set Venat and Hermes on their courses to become Hydaelen and start the Final Days, respectively. And Venat intentionally leaves a flaw in her attack to Sunder the world into 14 that she knew Emet-Selch would take advantage of. So, the four of them are, due to time travel, destined to fill their roles.
As for their pilgrimage to the elements, you could say that the Calamaties they cause, which require flooding a shard of the world with a specific element, is their form of it. And finally, instead of going to an otherworldly place, they are already are in one, the Sundered version of their own world. And while they all fail in their goals, they pass on the knowledge and hopes to our Warrior of Light to stop the Endsinger.
TL;DR: The Unsundered Ancients are twisted versions of the Warrior of Light mythos. Especially Elidibus, who even becomes a Primal version of FF1's Warrior of Light.
Wonderfully explained video. May I also ask if anyone knows what beautiful song that is playing in the background
These vids are great, Thanks
This was a really nice video about the overarching themes of the series, but the lack of XI and XIV is a major fault. Both titles have their roots into the most basic of the elements that made Final Fantasy what it is, albeit XI took a more original approach compared to its successor while coming together nicely into a finale that is literally classic FF with the Warriors of Light VS Cloud of Darkness. XIV is clearly becoming the "one that brings them all together", if you played it you know what I mean.
XI and XIV have a lot to say, and since I like what you guys do with with your videos I'd strongly suggest you look into them. They are both numbered FF titles and when it comes to lore they go far and beyond any of the others.
Massimiliano Mainieri well put!
For some reason the MMO games often get separated from the rest of the main numbered titles. When discussing the main games it's usually just the single player titles.
I don't think they should be excluded but thats what normally happens.
@@strangevision99 even square Enix has said that if it has a number then it's part of the main series, people just assume FFXIV is going to be a soul sucking experience like WoW because it's an MMO when FFXIV has had some of the best story telling since FFX. It also has done wonders for the genre, making it engaging, fun, and doesn't waste your time. It's total bullshit. I'm really irked that this guy just ignored it.
Gonna be honest here: if they remade FF3 with the art style from that picture and the art book, I would absolutely buy it again. That style is just so pretty.
you mean Akihiko Yoshida's art?:)
Amazing job on this! Can you tell me the name of the piano song at the beginning?
SadSynth WAAAAHH STILL NOTHING?
Came for XIV, didn't get XIV. Also that title is misleading "I-XV".
So I am guessing one of the most travelled and powerful Warriors of Light in all FF lore just doesn't count?
*cough* Meteor Survivor *cough*
"We were just adventurers trying to make our way; an odd job here, a favor there. We never set out to be "Warriors of Light", but word of our deeds spread and soon people were calling us heroes. They placed their hopes and dreams on our shoulders and bid us fight for all that was good and right."

great video!
No FFIX?
The Warrior of Light in Dissidia has so much swagg
Final fantasy is truly and deeply amazing😘🕶🕶 I am beyond impressed and amazed and in love with this great and brilliant series! From FF 1 too ff15 and every one in between is a masterpiece!
True words. My favorite is 12 The Zodiac Age.
You might want to extend this to include XIV, theres a LOT to unpack on the WoL motif there
Final Fantasy XII was so far ahead of its time, it's not even evoqued in this video.
More seriously, this is an interesting point of view of this series. Good video.
XII is so amazing
Can i ask why you didnt include ff14, the whole game is centered around the warriors of light. I would assumed that would have been the biggest thing to include
Hey Andrew, thanks for commenting! Honestly, it was an oversight on our part. We were trying to focus on the games that had casts of characters, so that they could be compared to the original "four warriors of light" and the MMOs got left by the wayside as a result. We should have at least mentioned Final Fantasy XI and XIV at some point in the video though. Needless to say, it's not a mistake we'll make again! ~Darryl
@@FinalFantasyUnion and no mention of the game Final Fantasy 4 Heroes of light and Bravely Default where the Fairies Fly has the whole 4 warriors of light down pat.
Are there any troupes like this that apply to the villains as a whole? I would love to see a video on that!
We need a final fantasy 1 remake
Gonna completely ignore ffxiv? After all its all warrior of light this warrior of light that lol
And 4 Heroes of light and Bravely Default?
No idea why he ignored 14 the start of 2.0 is warriors of light white mage warrior bard and BLM plus there old friend
They don't really like to include the mmos in alot of their videos, they mightve missed it tho
@Shawn Pupe maybe he doesn't have time to go through the whole of ff14 since is an mmo and those are pretty difficult to get all the info when compared to other non mmo ff games
And with this comment the video is a skip for me.
Music in the video please? (Especially at the end.) Is that game music?
The goosebumps are real! O_O a journey thru nostalgia lane
what a surprise
a video talking about a concept from the whole series and the 2 games that do it the best getting ignored AGAIN
What's the second game he left out of the video? I know the first one was Final fantasy XIV
FfXIV even has the looking for the elementals crystal, I was very pleased to see they way they expanded on the warrior of light scheme
I find it weird you not even mention FFXIV seeing as how they are 100% Warriors of Light and could also fit this list ( albeit maybe not the 4 party part. ).
Well we do fight in a party of 4 for dungeons
Raids and Alliances are also multiple groups of 4 warrior of light.
Not to mention the 4 player party is called a "Light Party" in terms of both a party of light and a party light in size
Where did you find that thumbnail artwork?!
How about the trope of the villains that have a relation/history with the main character?
FFIV: Golbez and Cecil
FFVII: Sephiroth and Cloud
FFIX: Kuja and Zidane
FFX: Yu Yevon -> Sin -> Jecht -> Tidus
And maybe more, there are some I probably can't remember.
SNBeast Wasn't it Golbez for FF4?
Heh. Oops.
I write a story about the original final fantasy. It tells the tale of the fiends being sealed inside the descendants of the 4 Light warriors.
Chaos was sealed in the descendant of the warrior of light. His name is Sora. He's a sword prodigy.
Kary was sealed in the white Wizard's daughter, Talon. She's fiery yet Strong and stubborn. She's a fine healer.
Lich was sealed in the Red Wizard's nephew, Evan. He's deaf yet smart. His job class is Red mage.
Kraken was sealed in the grandson of the Black Wizard, Logan, who is sly and funny.
And Tiamat was sealed in the Ninja's daughter, Shelby, who inherited the Thief Class. She's outgoing yet bratty.
non-canon because sora isn't ff
It's a different sora
The names definitely need changing.
OK, so tigerwolf, do you have any suggestions?
Ignore them. I like the names
I really hope y’all decide to do an update on this, especially with what FFXIV showed us at the end of the Shadowbringers story and what we as the players had to do.
please keep making these vids i love this so much. i like to say kain highwind
FF14 WOLs are also blessed by early stars of WOLs which makes them also Warriors of Light yay.
And then it actually takes concept of Warriors of Darkness from FF3 and develops on it. Recontextualizes entire narrative, making Warrior of Light that should be a player character an integral point in the entire narrative.
You should do the ancient civilization motif. They all seem to have one and most of the time the sins of that ancient civilization is plaguing the warriors of light whether directly or indirectly
That is common in any RPG , basicly.
Thank God, FF Strangers of Paradise came out to answer questions 5 years later
mmmh why there are no mentions at all of FFXI's and FFXIV's warriors of light ? I mean, is correct to avoid talking about chapter like XII or IX as the WoL motif is almost absent, but (at least for XIV as i have more experience with it) in the two MMOs you have the most evident representation of the Warriors of lights until FFV . I think at least they're worth a mention.
It's worth mention , but it lacks everything else.
As an MMO , it's very nature prevents to make "4 heroes" and "crystal".
We only have "destiny" and "pilgrimage".
Every Dungeon is for 4 warrior of light. Every Raid or Alliance is multiple groups of 4 warriors of light (sometimes they come from other "worlds"/Servers) The whole game you are chasing for crystals to get elemental power to meet your destiny. There are even Warrior of Darkness! So yeah..i think this game should be mentioned.
PhantasosX Games this is untrue. The 4 heroes are in the 4 person party mechanic. The entire games shoves the warriors of light story in your face. This was a great video, and i get thay most FF fans wouldn't have played XI or XIV, but at the very least it should have been worth a mention
Danijel and arkayna , is that so?
so there is no reason to not putting XI or XIV , as it will be 3 out of 4 , the same case as VIII
Actually its even 4 out of 4 and it is even expanding on the idea. Well at least FF14...i have never played 11.
Nice video. 3:31 the lich boss actually has a warrior of light helmet and bracers.. interesting
Excellent video. I will just say though, you missed large portions of Final Fantasy 4 in your research. The warrior of light indeed is directly chosen, and prophecy is possibly the strongest theme in the game. It doesn't start immediately obvious, and the party shifts like it does in other later games, but the connection to crystals and a dark world they must travel to are all there. The game even does it twice: The Underworld with the dark crystals, and the moon after.
Final Fantasy 9 might break the mold the most, though it is a literal sequel to the first game. The main villain in the first game directly appears in 9 as a catalyst for the game's events, and lore in game later on directly talks about the events of the first game. The game seems to be written to challenge the cycle more than to flow with it.
Again, your research and presentation is amazing, love the video. Keep up the good work!
I would love to see the history behind the elemental fiends/archfiends.
I loved the video ❤, but… how could you NOT include FFXIV in this? Literally built and showcased upon the warrior of light trope at the end of the day. I LOVE your channel at the end of the day, but WHAT? If you plan on making a FFXIV exclusive video, than I get it, but literally that story of that warrior of light has brought me to tears so many times than other games. Please document him cause literally FFXIV is changing the “scenescape” for FF story and lore in the entirety of the franchise and it should be shown. ❤❤❤ This is an amazing channel and please keep doing what you’re doing.
Bravely Default and Bravely Second are definitely a Final Fantasy games ^^
I just saw that the team behind Bravely Default/Second is the team behind FF 4 Heroes of Light, that might explain why I felt that Bravely games are so close to this description :)
Rather disappointing ones...
I would prefer if heroes would be a little more... selfish and egoistic. Their chronical altruism is too sugary for me.
@@KeyleeTamirian considering Agnes is a priestess, Tiz a farm boy, Ringabel( who has his own arc), Edea the daughter of a nation's leader, Yew a knight of a prestigious line and Magnolia a protector of Luxendarc from the moon. All the characters have a reason to be altruistic( though Ringabel did have his selfish moments).
@@barrybend7189 Still their altruism is too sugary.
I "love" how the game that you didn't mentioned is probably the one that talk more about the concept of WoL otself and SPOILERS
At one point you literally have to fight against the archetype itself incarnated of the WoL
I would argue that FFVIII did have an elemental pilgrimage in the form of acquiring the main story quest Guardian Forces which start off by covering the elemental GFs like Ifrit, Shiva, and Quetzecoatl. Just food for thought. I hadn't actually realized at all how much the traditional WoL motif was present in FFVIII despite it being one of my favorite FFs along with the DS version of III so I hadn't even thought of the connection between gathering the GFs and the original crystal pilgrimages from 1 & 3 until I saw your video!
I’m very disappointed you left out 14. It has a very strong Warrior of Light motif and it’s really kind of awful people just ignore such a great game because it’s an MMO. Even if you don’t play it there is plenty of information on the Internet. I hope your channel will stop ignoring the MMOs
Perhaps the reason for this is because the story is still ongoing?
ARR is self-contained and fulfills the monomyth. It would work fine, though I can see why they'd avoid an incomplete story.
TigerWolf - 1.0, ARR and HW stories are done. ”Ongoing story” excuse doesn’t work.
Way too much to cover dude...
Amber Elliott you sure about that?? Warrior of light from ff1 defeated sephiroth, emperor, garland alone.. and chaos using the power of crystal in dissidia also warrior of light(ff1) have the power of class change given by bahamut and he has the crystal that holds the essence and power of a divine diety that can kill chaos or kill a god according to garland in dissidia..
Was wandering maybe do a video on (warrior of light) final fantasy wiki has lots of info but I have always been curious about the knight and his story 🙂
I found the story element explaining the genericness of the first warriors of light interesting. How they could have been anyone, that there were previous warriors of light before them. The reason they accomplished their goal was divine intervention from the player.
The WoL in FFXIV is apparently the #1 strongest. The one that protects the main world.
In dissidia 012 the cutscene/the battle intro your playing as warrior of light and fighting lighting, lightning's line is "great Now im fighting a fairy tale"
Final Fantasy : Crystals
Avengers : Infinity Stones
At 4:16, FF III wasn't a 3DS remake, just normal DS
I think he meant 3d DS remake
Was FF XII mentioned? I can't seem to catch it if it is.
Wonder why 6 is left out. Many of the troupes are present, especially if you consider the "world of ruin" in 15 part of the troupe. It exists in both games. While there are a great many characters in 6, there are a select few that the game truly focuses on.
Also, I think 9 can also be included in the motif, you say that zidane is more personally linked to the antagonist, but Garland and kuja do not end up proving to be the main villains.
Beyond that, the story focuses on a select few characters out of a group. Those 4 representing the very typical warrior, rogue, white make, and black mage.
If ten can be included so should 6&9, for sure.
Regardless, enjoyed the video!
They are all warriors of light. XI and XIV too.
Yes but you are missing the "prophecy" element. In 6, no god or force or deity chose them or prophesized them to save the world. They did it by their own heroism. Same with 9. Warrior of Light, in definition, should be chosen warriors destined to save the world.
Final Fantasy 4 has a warrior of light. It was Cecil. He became a Paladin which is a literal warrior of light. Moreover, his coming was foreold by the Mysidian Legend...
One born of a dragon
Bearing darkness and light,
Shall rise to the heavens
Over the still land.
The moon's light eternal
Brings a promise to Earth
With bounty and grace.
I was thinking exactly the same thing, they also go on a pilgrimage for the crystals, and go beyond their homeworld to the underworld and the moon.
I really like the quality of content in these videos so far, but to say FF8 follows the warrior of light theme but 4 does not for the reasons stated makes no sense.
Wow... you squandered a perfect opportunity. I know I'm not the first to say this but... FFXIV... you are literally selected as THE Warrior of Light. There is even a group of Warriors of Darkness. And Otherwold? HEll yeah, we got them. In fact, we got callbacks to other Final Fantasies. I was honestly disturbed in Heaven's Ward, when my connection to Crystal-mommy got severed! It's an actuall in-game lore reason WHY you're able to resurrect while others... don't (Sorry Aeris)
Fuck yeah 0:37 never thought I’d see the sailor soldiers in One of y’all’s videos! I love to see it!!!!!!!
I have two ideas for evolution videos,
1. The evolution of Cid as a character
2. The evolution of magic through FF, this one I'm especially excited to see. The magic you buy to the espers giving magic, to equipment giving the magic, to mako forming materia and job classes giving character only elemental magic.
Would be interesting to see how Final Fantasy Mobius fits into this.
Make more videos like this please!
You would do really well to give FF14 a fair chance.
I’ve been an FF fanboi for 23 years and I’ve played them all.
You’ll be surprised how everything you talk about in all your videos is tied together in that story. It’s 1 big homage easter egg fiesta to all other FF’s.
And you could make some amazing video’s talking about older FF story simularities.
Another Spin off wich fits into the warrior of light theme is Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, there are the crystals, the heroes( actually more than 4 but 3 of them are the mains), the pilgrimage. The otherworld which is Paladia instead of Lapis. They are kinda chosen because they are royal childs from people of Paladia who fight against each other.
I never considered it but the Favula Nova Crystales games (13, type-0 and 15) all do have the WoL motif going for them
I really like the term "warrior of leitmotif"
Very surprised you didn't mention XIV, yeah.
wait so where is onion knight in 3
In a sense, Phantasy Star also uses the warriors of light idea, although without the element thing attached.
Does anyone know the name of the song in the background?
Came for the Final Fantasy.
Stayed to speculate wildly as to what else Toby will include in Delta Rune. Like, who is Lightner number 4? Do we currently have 3?
