The DJI seemed way better but if they are not side by side I don’t think anyone would really notice. If you have a bunch of GoPro accessories already it would probably be worth just sticking with it instead of having to buy all new accessories.
I want to see as close as possible, what you see! So my opinion on 'what' I see is of less value to me, than what YOU see as closest to what you experience!
Aaron, I could listen to you ramble for hours not that you do, but I get a lot of information from your work friend. Cooking Recipes, learning about the Keys keep it coming. Thank you.
But GOOOOD NEWS! DJI Action 4 is seamlessly compatible with all gopro accessories!! @@WRA005
the color accuracy on DJI is insane! at 8:19, i can see some warm color tone on the white boat, but dji is accurate and pleasing to me.
Perfect timing! I'm in the market for a new camera! my Hero 8 Black just fried on my last dive. Appreciate the review!
Big suggestion!!!! Keep doing you dog!!! Every video is an absolute pleasure to watch!!! I am gonna be on the boat with you one day!!!
I’m looking for my first underwater camera and I like the colors of the Osmo better. What really impressed me most was your free diving!! Thank you for a very helpful video.
🙏
Dude what a great review you did, I was doubting if I should switch to DJI or not and now I have made my mind. I love those colors on the DJI. 👏🏻
DJI Action 4 is a slice of heaven.
esp for the price! i just picked up the adventure combo for 400$ with 3 batteries. im sure the action 5 will be coming out soon, but this was a great price and i'm a weekend warrior as well so this is more than enough for me.
@@itr0863 from the photos i see in store the adventure combo does not even have a scuba case? i also see a bunch of other packages up to twice the price but no case.
Thanks a lot mate, I was actually looking for one of those and you definitely helped me a lot making my choice 🙏🏾
psyched you decided to do this...thank you!!
IMO, Aaron, when you are snorkeling at the surface, the gopro is clearer, better contrast- slightly. As soon as you descend, the Osmo is definitely more realistic in color definition . I don't dive but, to me- I'd go with the Osmo.
Nice comparison, Aaron. 😊
Thank you SO MUCH!!! This was a huge help - sold on the DJI!!!
Just awesome the way you explain and break down the differences love it
Osmo all the way 👍🏽💯
Having had a drone videography business and having to do the editing / color correction I would definitely prefer the DJI Action 4. It has a much better coloring of the environment and you could easily lighten up the footage if it was a little dark like the shots where your face was shadowed. Having used a lot of DJI drone footage and edited, using the DLOG format makes really great footage and you can easily apply a preset to the footage and you have a lot of dynamic range for correction / creative.
Thanks for posting. Very informative. Opened my eyes to sport action video equipment as novice myself. Osmo out performs the Gopro 12 hands down. In battery life and in deeper colors. In my opinion the Gopro is brighter for low light situations. Overheating and battery life did the Gopro in. And not so much the color. Peace!
I like the Osmo seem very clear and brilliant. I really really enjoyed this. It gave me some great insight on cameras, for fishing and diving.
awesome. thanks for sharing. not too many underwater videos to show comparison.
Been thinking about buying an action camera mainly for cruise vacations. WOW, on the DJI. So much more realistic. Thanks for this side-by-side!!!
Awesome video. Really appreciate your work here. Can you please also make a comparison video between Osmo Action 4 and Insta360 Ace Pro. Would be great to see the differences. Thx mate
I've always been a go pro fan but man... the osmo killed it.
Thank you so much for this video. After a few minutes of your underwater filming the answer is crystal clear: DJI in my case since I will mainly use it for diving! I have an older dji and they have much better settings for underwater. No idea why GoPro does not add such features. I must be just software. But also the bigger DJI sensor makes a huge difference!
Thanks for the comparison! Very helpful
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks man great video ...helps a lot
Have the osmo 4. Love it. Been such a better experience then the GoPro. Better video, longer battery life, easy editing, no housing until 66ft of diving. Been a great diving and spearing camera.
I think the Osmo gives a better sense of depth and when you get into the ledges its looks way better - which I imagine would be really helpful when you're trying to point out grouper in a hole
Awesome review and definitely helped me make my decision. Are you using any waterproof case on these or as is? I know that they're waterproof but wasn't sure if they're safe on salt water.
Thanks for that. Used to have gopro but may be time for change as far as underwater is concerned
Osmo without a doubt! All around cleaner and more crispyyy!
I appreciate everything you do to improve your final product 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Thank you for the underwater review. 🤙🏾
I really like my GoPro’s. I own four of them including the 12 but the Osmo, within this use case, is very impressive. Good video by the way!
I wonder if you could do a follow up with some really deep or dark video. We sometimes dive (especially with scuba) in situations where the lighting is barely adequate. How do they compare?
Osmo is the best for sure.. hopefully grabbing one soon.
just in the first shots I noticed that the dynamic range of the action 4 is a lot better and so is the color reproduction. honestly a good color grader could make the shots of the action 4 fit into a movie or documentary very easily the gopro would be a bit harder to manipulate. That being said I like both but I prefer the action 4.
I agree the Ozmo looks better. Look forward to more from it. Love Your time teamed up with the Clam...
They both have their pros and cons. I think it comes down to personal preference. In my opinion, the OSMO looks better in low level lighting situations and the GoPro looks better in high level lighting. The GoPro batteries do tend to overheat. One of my GoPros got so hot I couldn't even hold it. This could potentially become dangerous if you have one strapped to your chest or head.
Easy . Dji is so much better - Also it goes to 18 meters without the extra housing. Love your work.
Thanks for the underwater review. What underwater casing did you use for the DJI OA4?
the one DJI makes for it
The Osmo was definately more realistic in color and clarity, but it did not do to well on background water..dark places showed up..Go Pro everything was green looking..I prefer the Osmo for sure overall..Great comparison video sir thanks...
Nice comparison. I recently started my channel and I do a lot of water based things as well. I’ve always been a GoPro guy but I think they’ve lost the edge lately. Might have to make the swap over to DJI myself. Keep up the good work.
Did you change and how did it went for you im looking to buy one of those cameras
@@ElCalvoNickI have not purchased a new camera yet but when I do I think it will be the DJI.
Awesome content, always!! From Clearwater Beach, Florida :-)
Since I don’t dive, I’m just a consumer of your videos. I have dabbled in photography so have a bit of understanding. I watch the videos almost exclusively on my iPhone. I agree the color compensation on the Osmo is better but to my eye, the level of edge detail underwater, especially at distance, is better with the Gopro. And with my old eyes and some of the murk you encounter, I need all the detail I can get.
Definitely the DJI love your videos God bless you guys
Action 4 is legit Aaron! Love you buddy!
Hey Aaron, I watched your video comparing Action 4 to GoPro 12 and Action 3 to GoPro 11. I'm curious if it's valid to compare videos from the same company's products across different years simultaneously. This way, we can assess the potential for upgrading to the newer product. Thanks.
Osmo by FAR. Never had one, always used GoPro but I'll be buying an Osmo next, thanks for this!
Perfect vid, I will be picking up an osmo for next dive season. I prefer not to have to spend hours colour grading
would like to see with all settings optimized for each, there's underwater optimization that you can and should do that might help with some of the colors, but impressive for the dji for sure on the color accuracy underwater.
This was my question also. I just watched a review than said the GoPro 11 and 12 let you adjust the white balance toward red to bring out the reds at depth. I'm thinking the Osmo is defaulting to that setting of white balance.
Thanks for this comparison. The DJI Action 4 looks vastly better to me, so I will confidently buy one 🙂.
Hey, Aaron. I think top side is Go Pro. Under is Osmo 💯
awesome discuss and shots
U should apply for a DJI or GoPro commercial, with one of your videos, I really love the one where u and ur woman, was diving at a ship wreck and there were tons of fish around you
I have a $150 Best Buy gift card burning a hole in my pocket. I was trying to decide between the Action 4 or the GoPro 12 for diving. Your video was a great help, well done. For me, the Action 4 hands down.
Amazing review
Hi!
Did you actually use the HDR mode on the gopro? Cuz other videos shows the exact opposite (GoPro hdr shows more blue red and white and the dji too green not sharp enough). So what’s the exact settings you used in this video in both cams?
Thanks for ur answer
Honestly I liked the go pro better, It seemed to bring in more light and I found myself straining to see detail with the darker osmo but my eyes ain't what they used to be. This is your show so do what you want. Are you still doing commercial fishing and or deep dropping?. P.S. Missing the deeper spearfishing vids and again wish you and Madeline all the best.
Pros and cons to both but I prefer the GoPro I think. Both look good.
GREAT REVIEW !!!!!!!
Aaron what about the size?? I hate all new cameras are too big and we normally put it on the mask and sometimes it leaks water in due to big size. Osmo is best. BTW thanks a lot. Nobody is doing comparisons for spearos and divers as you did. Great videos and fishing!!!
Great work!!!
Have you used the Action 4 without an u/w case? Thoughts on that? Re this video: good information, things we’re all curious about. As always, great job.
I haven't yet, I always use cases on all cameras even in the shallows. I'm just paranoid like that lol.
@@KeyWestWaterman Yep, that was kind of my take: 1.) A case is just cheap insurance, and 2.) without a case, you’re guaranteed to come across the perfect spot that’s 60 ft.+
If I have a GoPro, would using a red filter cancel out the green? The OSMO looks much more natural definitely
Osmo looks amazing!
Looks like the Gopro keeps more details 8:18 you can see the black marks/divot on top of the engines on the Gopro side but gone in the Action 4 side, but the colors underwater overall look better for the Action 4 almost every time.
I came to the DJI conclusion a while back, I film with an Action 3 which I also chose over the competition. IIRC the DJI also won on the price front as well, but that wasn't a consideration. Cheers!
Nice video. I hope gopro improves their colors!
Better using waterhousing case or not?
To be honest I love Go Pro But I definitely think the DJI out shined it I don’t releases how green the water is and When you shot the fish it look so much better.
Osmo hands down!!!
The color is better on the DJI 4 underwater maybe because it has auto white balance. I wish it had better photo resolution so I could enlarge prints because the low MPixels pushes me towards the GP12, then the battery is a big issue so it's hard to decide. Is the hero12 waterproof like the dji 4?
I've been using a GoPro for underwater video since 2013, now on to a Hero 11. It was clear from the video that the Osmo outperformed the GoPro in terms of underwater footage quality. I wonder if the GoPro settings can be adjusted to bring it up to speed?
Yea I’ve been using GoPro since day one. This was the first camera to ever make me switch. I would love to see someone who knows what they’re doing and do some post shooting color grading and such with both and see how they compare.
without a doubt , the osmo is what i see in person , color is more accurate . thanks for this
Were you using an underwater housing for the Osmo Action 4? I feel like I could accidentally unlock the battery latch
I like the color of the DJI and the brightness of the GoPro. Overall the DJI seems like the best overall.
Hi, what kind of mount you're using?
Head or chest?
Cool comparison. DJI def makes the race interesting. Feature-packed and crazy reliable which means a lot to a guy like Aaron who needs it like he does. On the other hand, there are some pretty serious security concerns surrounding their app and developers of it though as I’ve seen recently. I’m not a tinfoil hat fella by any stretch but security and privacy are important to me. Worth looking into if it’s something that concerns you so you can make your own decision.
Hey, I am looking to buy the osmo 4 for spearfishing. What mount/case do you all recommend to attach it to the speargun? Thanks
Hey, i was just minding, did you put them in some waterproof housing while filming that 75ft dive?
Yes
Been a gopro fan my whole life and honestly the dji blew that 12 out of the water. My only thought would be how is the software for dji. I think the gopro app is practically perfect for what i use it for would be interested to see how dji is.
Osmo all day and twice on Sunday!
Nice job - good job - GO FOR THE MONEY - lighting is #1
Since you have both, the go pro looks better out of the water and the osmo looks better underwater, at least to me. Maybe use the gopro for boatside?
Where in Key West do you live!? Looks really cool!
I think something in between would be perfect!
GoPro a little less yello/green and Osmo a little brighter.
But if I have to choose it is the Osmo.
I think the osmo is a little more real looking. What do you think of Barracuda for eating?
Osmo ftw for sure. The battery issue alone swayed me.
Great review mate, wondering now which one should go for ahhaha , Go Pro colours definitely better on land , but when it’s underwater Osmo is way better than go pro , thanks a lot
haha depends what you do the most I guess! best of luck!
Do you use any sort of waterproof casing or do these action cameras go in the water as is?
I use the housings they built for them
I really like the Osmo Action 4.
For us divers, the automatic color temperature filter is a lifesaver as it (almost) perfectly adjusts the white balance. I think this is a big advantage over GoPro cameras.
I’m four minutes into the video, and I’d go with the Osmo over the GoPro. The former simply has a far better image when you’re underwater doing your thing. I offer this as someone who used work in the movie business for 16 years. Perhaps you can use the GoPro as a backup.
thats white balance - as you know, red is one of the first colors to drop out at depth, the cameras try to add back in the red to counteract the deep blue or green hue. Looks like osmo does a better job of white balancing
The DJI seems to get better color the purples actually look purple versus with the GoPro
Well, it’s time to move to an osmo
Just ordered the Dji 💪
was on a dive trip recently and had a chance to do a comparison between what i got on a gopro and what a videographer got on her standby dji action 4. the colour on the dji blew me away and she said that's why she has thrown away her gopro coz the dji saves her hours of work
The osmo has better color capture but it is a lot darker. It would be nice if they could lighten the image a little and it would be perfect
Osmo for me
Osmo action for sure
Years ago I studied photography with an Ansel Adams protégé. We used a definitive Gray Scale which used 10 specific gradations from white to black. The Osmo appears to be using that gray scale while the Go Pro appears to be using a digital equalizer (no black black and no white white) instead of a 10 scale it is using an 8 scale therefore, no black and no white. Although you can see more detail with the GoPro its video becomes BORING with a lack of extreme contrast and artistic flare. The colors also suffer because of this.
I may have missed it but did you have both cameras in their respective underwater housing? Thank you.
I did. I did my best to keep everything uniform.
Thanks !
