I love your lectures and workign my way though all of them! In relation to your point about Helios, you say that kind of image is not mentioned on the gospels, you are right. But, Psalm 68 and Revelation and in other places does use this kind of imagery. So I would suggest that this could be the reason they chose adopt the Helios image.

Solar crown evolving into halos is probably my favorite example of pagan iconography being transformed into Christian iconography.
