    I from Victoria in Australia and was a commercial hop grower. The hop set as we would call them generally required 3" to 4' of good topsoil to grow in as the set grows a tap root, we would plant around mid to late spring (no frosts in spring for us} in our conditions we would soak Rhizome in water before planting if conditions dry then water {1 Gallon} when planted per set. I looked on you'r web site, this was the only post about growing Hops.

    I hope we get to check-in on the growth throughout the summer. I want to see the 20' growth up to the roofline!

    I'm actually pretty stoked mine came back. First 2 attempts I learned a few planter rules (deeper planter, not watering in the winter) so got some nice 2 years now and now that Colorado is warming up they are coming up really nice

    For the Q&A episode: How to properly set the gap on a mill? Does the gauge (or credit card) move freely or is the gap tight to the point where the rollers move as you push and pull on the gauge/credit card?

    For those new to home brewing who are bottling & bottle conditioning, what is the maximum volumes of CO2 for bottling in long necks? At about what level does the bottle pop?

    Free Rhizomes Friday! Any suggestions for strains that work well in super hot areas like South Texas or Florida?

    • @MoreBeer_
      @MoreBeer_  Před 2 lety +2

      There are many that actually do well in all climates, and for you I might recommend Cascade! For example, the Columbus Rhizomes grow best in hot, dry climates. The Cascade hop rhizomes is suitable for all climates. And the Golding hops rhizome is best suited for mild, moist climates. On all of our rhizome product pages, you'll find the climate we recommend for each in the first sentence of the product description 🍻

    I started my B3 Hops rhizomes last year. This year they are growing very well. One intersting note however...After harvesting last year i decided to space them out. When i went to move the planters, i found that the roots had found their way to the drainage holes and are now growing underneath my planter. Finally, Should i be fertilizing with a good organic fertilizer?

    • @MoreBeer_
      @MoreBeer_  Před 2 lety

      That's actually fascinating! I've never heard of that before, but they do have a mind of their own once they get growing. For fertilizer, you're looking for something high in nitrogen and low in phosphorus. Citrus and fruit tree food is usually a good choice, and whether you use organic or not is your call!

      I have been growing a cascade hop plant in Orando for four years, It's roots also find their way to the ground under the pot. There is no aroma or flavor with the cones i get. that is disappointing but I still put them in the whirlpool of some beer kits i brew from Morebeer.

    Is there an issue with cross pollination using different strains?

    • @MoreBeer_
      @MoreBeer_  Před 2 lety +1

      Not exactly sure if there will be an issue with cross pollination, but if you grow two different strains close enough, they will start to grow together, and it can then make it difficult to track which hop is which from that point on. Hope that's helpful!
