Shoot bolts for aluminium doors are what secures the slave door in position and then the master door (the door with the lock in it) can then be locked into the slave door. So if your shoot bolts in the front edge of your aluminium door are not secured into the floor and into the underside of the frame, this then allows the two doors to be pulled open slightly when the doors are locked together. When this happens, it can cause the front leading edge of the doors to bend and buckle slightly. When aluminium doors get bent and buckled like this, it means that the doors end up overlapping each other when the come to closed position.
This is a major problem as it will make the doors difficult to close and lock for staff as they secure the building at night, its an even bigger problem if you have automatic door operators on your swing doors as the automatic door operators will struggle to pull the doors in to the fully closed position if the door leaves are overlapping each other.
Once the front edges of aluminium doors are bent or buckled its extremely difficult and often impossible to get the doors straight again. Often, the only remedy for this problem is to replace one or both of the doors.
A good way to avoid this happening is to have aluminium doors with a mid rail even if that mid rail is set slightly below half way across the width of the door as a mid rail adds a great deal or structural strength to the door leaves.
The best way to avoid this type of damage is to make sure that the shoot bolts are working correctly and that they are locked into the floor and the frame above the aluminium door every time the doors are secured or you lock up at night.
