- Another very rare bit of footage that some will not have seen, again I own no rights to the footage and all rights go to the original creators. I shall be starting to do a fan edit of 3 or 4 episodes recut to make a different episode but as you will all have seen the original footage most of it and the ending will be known to you but as I say, something hopefully to chuckle over.

I never knew this existed and I certainly didn't know that this cast appeared on stage prior to James Beck's passing.
A joy. I've not seen/heard this before.
I know I’m a sentimental old fool, but- even as an American-- the sense of duty that comes through in these episodes/scenes is really something. And the captain’s speech about dissuading the Royal Personages from joining them in the fray was particularly sweet and touching to me.
I believe that was a reference to the Royal Family's weapon's training. I understand that the then Queen Consort was a crack shot when it came to dealing with rats

I saw the Dad's Army cast on stage in the West End. They were brilliant, so versatile, singing and dancing as well. It was around 1975
Wow. I’m surprised that you’ve actually seen them. I wish that I were alive when Dad’s army was made. I’d definitely see them on stage if I were.

This is amazing, thank you so very much. I especially liked seeing John Laurie, always wondered how he would sound on stage, giving his acting career, Shakespeare and so on. I thought he never went on stage with Dad's Army, but here he is, so again, thanks.
It's 3 months since the elder of the little girls passed, and more than 20 years since the younger died. May they rest in peace, the late Queen Elizabeth ii and the Princess Margaret
My grandma was a teenager during the second world war and she recorded messages for the real Home Guard and a inspector on the Lancaster bombers. after that she met my Grandad. she passed away during the late Queen's 70th last June
There is something magical about this show and the people who made it happen, I find when I cant fall asleep I put an episode of Dads Army on and within 5 min im gone weird because I must have watched the full shows many many times.
Not the only one who does this mate.

I do find that there's indeed something magical about about the show
It's remarkable that the creator of Dad's Army was a former member of the Home Guard himself, Jimmy Perry, who modeled Private Pike -- the teenager whose mother always worries he will catch cold -- after his younger self.
I watch dad’s army virtually every night and always lament the fact that I’ve already seen all the episodes many, many times, so I am really looking forward to your fan edits. Thank you for all you’re doing with dad’s army.

The Princesses Elizabeth & Margaret with cocoa at the end for the old Farts was inspired. What incredible scriptwriting, with the Dads Army cast showing professionalism unmatched today!
Given the recent death of the Queen, it quite caught me off guard and made me tear up a bit.

This sketch was specially written and performed for the Royal Television Gala Performance on BBC One, airing Saturday May 23rd 1970, recorded at the BBC Studios in the presence of the Queen.
Not quite correct, it was part of the Dads Army stage show that toured the uk, the stage show was commissioned by Bernard Delfont in the spring of 1975. This was scene 8 of the stage show and was chosen as it had nearly all of the cast on the stage at same time.
@@gus452000 No, you are wrong. As this sketch shows Walker played by Jimmy Beck. Jimmy died suddenly in the summer of 1973, so how is it possible Jimmy Beck to be seen here as Walker, if this is from the 1975 stage show??? A ghost?? No, this is from the 1970 Royal Gala TV Performance.

@@johnking5174 Sorry your quite correct, I have never had so many views, comments on any videos before and I shouldn't use my phone for making comments lol, your quite correct, there was another performance of this which had Jimmy Perry stand in for one of the casts. As I said you are correct I thought you where talking about my other video the floral dance.
@@gus452000 I am a HUGE Dad's Army fan. I know my Dad's Army history and scripts inside out. When episodes are on, I can say the lines with the cast. So I love the show very much, and know a lot about it. Sad that Jimmy Beck died so young back in 1973. He was great as Walker. He drank a lot, and Clive Dunn once said "his tummy just couldn't stand all those gin and tonics".

This is very likely from The Royal Television Gala Performance, recorded in mid-May 1970 at the BBCTV Theatre, Shepherd’s Bush (the 02 Empire Theatre). Later screened on BBC 1 on the 24th of May 1970. Vera Lynn and Morecambe and Wise were on the same bill. The Dad's Army cast also made several Christmas Night With The Stars appearances, and James Beck passed away on 6 August 1973.

By Jove, I don't recall having seen this footage before. I was only three when Walker died, so I would be Play School age and probably too young to watch then!
For my dad when in the RAF he was in the home guard they said to him bringing a broom handle with a knife on the end he brought all the broom with the brush on the end as joke

It was the Royal Variety Perfomance of 1970.
