Hank was spinning quite a space lie-something about earrings wearing their owners. The crew got a boot out of the yarn-until they got to thinking. And The Gods Laughed by Fredric Brown, that’s next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, with at least one lost vintage sci-fi short story in every episode.
Today’s episode of the podcast marks the debut of Fredric Brown. Brown was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1906. At 18 he became an office worker and did that until he was 30, when he left to become a writer. His first science fiction short story appeared 5 years later in 1941. He won the “Edgar” award for Best First Mystery for “The Fabulous Clipjoint” in 1947 from the Mystery Writers of America.
Fredric Brown wrote more than 300 short stories including some of the shortest science fiction short stories you’ll ever find. Many of them can be found in vintage science fiction magazines, in their entirety on only one page. And The Gods Laughed isn’t a long story, but its longer than those one-page vignettes. Let’s go back in time 78 years and peruse the Spring 1944 edition of Planet Stories magazine. Turn to page 105 and enjoy And The Gods Laughed by Fredric Brown

Telling my buddies about this Chanel. Love your work. Sometimes I'll take some time out in my day and sit back and listen to one of these with my eyes closed. Super chill way to de-clutter your brain.

@James van Maanenberg thanks for telling your friends about us. I'm usually busy looking for and then narrating new stories but every now and then I put my phone on my nightstand and go to sleep listening to one of these stories. Super chill indeed. Thanks for your comment!

Well Bill you gave me quite the list of requests! We have a lot of requests and regularly scheduled podcasts ahead of you, but I'll do everything I can to get to some of your requests as soon as I can. As time allows you can expect to hear Orphans of the Void and The Star Mouse for sure. Thanks for your requests and thanks for listening!!

I should've guessed that you were swamped with suggestions. I checked and Over the River and Through the Woods is almost 2 hours long. So that's out. Orphans of the Void is an unfairly neglected gem. Shaara won the Pulitzer for a historical novel but he wasn't well known for sci fi. Star Mouse is funny and Protected Species wasn't anthologized as much as it should have been.

I wonder if this is the inspiration for the Stargate Goa'uld?

@@VintageSciFiAudiobooks “The Borg” from Star Trek. They are more human and mobile, but they have a collective identity that only uses numbers, and their goal is to take over, or assimilate, the entire Earth. Just saw some interesting parallels.

@blindvoyager Thanks for the explanation. I only watched the original Star Trek so I missed The Borg. Maybe I'll have to give all the newer Star Trek a shot.
