The fact that the author gave the creature a voice comparable to an animal being taught to "talk" instead of a cliche demonic voice or some crap like that is Soooo creative and creepy. It could also imply that it's repeating the voice of someone it could have terrorized in the past. Such good clever writing

It didn’t work for me, I just imagine husky’s doing that talking noise and Cats making that scared “noooo nooo nooo!” It’s kind of like is Freddy Krueger had a very high pitch voice as if he only breathes helium.

It's written well-enough and believably enough that I'm willing to accept it being a possible true story. I've experienced enough of my own creepy or abstractly weird sht to not brush that off. Moreover, the "creature" behaves very legit unlike many cliches. If it's not a "true story" it's certainly a possible one in my world.

It's basically implied in this story and outright stated in other skinwalker/goatman stories based on this one that the creature repeats things it heard people say, like a parrot mimicking human speech. Pretty brilliant indeed, a really creative and creepy idea

Its dialogue is taken directly from the campers, I think.
The beginning of the story has a group come back and slamming on the door "Lemme the F in, stop playin'!"
Now the Goatman comes in. Repeating that same phrase.

One of my favorite creepypastas simply because the monster isn't absolutely generic, and because it seems a bit more like something a teenage kid would write while trying to recall his story. If that makes sense ._.

This is GOOD story writing, THIS is how you write a scary story. Fear of the unknown and things we can understand is everything. The 'thing' (goatman) in this story never once poses a real threat, but the elements of the unknown are what makes this one of the creepiest stories of all time - Is it a threat? Is it human? What does it want? What does it look like? - we don't know, and the unknown and things that are slightly 'off' are everything

This one actually sent chills up my spine the whole way through. When I was a teenager, I visited some cousins in their mountain home in the forests. I remember them sternly telling me NEVER to go outside after dark, even between the house and the garage (which had been converted into an entertainment room or guest house. Me and the cousins slept in the garage, because they firmly believed we shouldn't head back after dark, and it had been storming.
What's crazy is that there are legit weird animals out there that make that 'dog trying to talk' noise that we were hearing. I personally thought it was just the echoes of a donkey warped a bit by echoes in the mountains, but they kept saying otherwise. That made me so nervous , I was triple checking the locks and covering the windows.
I am notably superstitious, but in the ghost sense... But that place really made me question myself.

Here's what I think was going on. The creature is fully sentient, and had no intention of actually harming the kids. They were in his territory, and he wanted them to leave, so he messed with them until they were too scared to stick around anymore. If the creature wanted to hurt them, he would have, because he had the opportunity to do just that, several times, but he didn't.

So if the Goatman stinks, that means he's probably in rut. When a male goat goes 'in rut' it's the start of his mating cycle. He pisses on himself and tries to get as smelly as possible (for some reason). Neutered goats don't do this.
Anyway, I figure this is a sure sign that the Goatman was looking for a mate.
That would certainly explain the stunned look on the face of the girl on the road side.

To everyone concerned about the over-abundant swearing, it is actually necessary. At first I hated it and thought it was the author's juvenile attempt to make the story sound intense, but as I listed to it more and more I realized something. A lot of people point out that the author is a graduate of college but is remembering something from the edge of his childhood (he was 16). And already swearing is a mainstay of our culture. Everyone swears like his right here. So there's that point.
But here's the second point that really got me and really made me realize just who deep a writer this person actually is. The swearing actually enhances the story and adds depth to the goatman. How? What does the goatman say when he finally speaks? "Let me the fuck in. Stop. Fucking. Playing." It was mimicking them. It sat with them and learned how they spoke. It had no cadence because it was literally like an animal or young child repeating what it has heard adults or other people say in an attempt to fit in or belong.
Can you just imagine this story from the goatman's perspective? He is an amalgamation of monster and human alone in the woods. When these guys go camping out there, he blends in when he can and has "friends". The animals in the wood don't like him because he's an abomination, so he blends with the people to know what it's like to belong. To feel community.
The reason he was at first standing with his back to them was because he wanted to see how their faces look, to nail down what someone their age would look like. He wasn't freaking them out at first, he was there watching and learning and developing the personas he would use when he'd join them. He never talked before that moment because he couldn't talk. He didn't know how to. If he said the wrong thing or spoke with words common from a different point in time, he probably would have given himself away much sooner. So he only spoke when felt it absolutely necessary and when he was sure he could pass as one of them.
He tried to adopt Kira's person but couldn't fully and started heaving, whether out of nervousness or out of something else, I can't say. But he really tried. Then, when Reese is there and the goatman tries to get in, Reese actually manages to shoot the thing. From out perspective that is a good thing and it starts giving off unholy screams, but from it's perspective?
"They shot me. My friends shot me"
Then it snuck in, again trying to blend, and managed to sleep with them again, every so often doing the heaving thing and again it could be out of child-like excitement or something else such as it trying to keep control of the disguise. Then it walked all the way back tot he house, trying it's best to stay blended and make the most of its last few moments with it's new "friends" then, when only Tanner knew who the goatman was and they looked each other in the eye, was it a threat of don't come back or was like like looking into a pet's eye or a stranger hoping you will return?
I know it's so easy to write this off as a well-written creepypasta with a bit too much swearing in it, but if you think about it... it could be a deeper story about the goatman actually being a tragic creepypasta figure wanting to be human but never able to be.

This is a very interesting concept, to say the least. I think its somewhat plausible with the goatman trying to blend in with them, but Im sure he had some other motives besides being "accepted", dont you think? But the whole idea about him trying to befriend them could work. 👌

I’ve always viewed skinwalkers as, like, predators, that take advantage of human social nature, so I tend to view its actions as more like that of a juvenile predator just engaging in experimental behavior. Not yet old enough to hunt, and still clearly bad at blending in, using young humans as practice in a kind of animalistic playful style.

This could make a good horror movie/short film. Like it's one of the few times not knowing the characters that well would benefit you. The characters in the story didn't know each other that well which is why the Goatman managed to get into the group unnoticed. So if you threw all 12 characters at once and only paid attention to the main character you could easily slip in another person without the audience noticing. It would be hard, but if done write you'd have something pretty creepy.

    • @Ryan-hj8il
      @Ryan-hj8il Před 5 lety +15

I absolutely agree, but if someone adapted this story to film (which should be done) whoever is heading the project needs to really understand the story they are dealing with. They cannot underestimate it. This is one the best creepypasta out there, and any adaption below excellent would be a travesty.
Nothing but a 1 to 1 recreation, that not only tells the original story but enhances it. No creative license allowed tbh. Translate *everything* from the story to the screen with no exceptions. Every minor detail needs to be included, there's no excuse to leave anything out.
If done well, I absolutely agree. It could be an awesome ensemble project. Get some good teen actors; fuck yah, that sounds rad.
I am just paranoid af that an "official" adaption of this creepypasta is going to be made (and people eat it up) but it will be underwhelming. Like people want to see Channel Zero tackle this story, but I am highly skeptical they could pull it off that would be to this story's standards.

(Yes I know this is a 4yo comment but I’m replying anyways) I personally think the swearing is a nice touch. My friends and I definitely talk like this, it sounds a bit odd in a creepypasta but that’s because you’re expecting more of a professional story. The swearing gives it the vibe of a 16 year old at a campfire telling his friends this story. It adds realism, imo.

The thing about this story is, the goatman didn't actually kill or even hurt anyone. It just acted a little creepy and hung out with them a bit. Sure this story is very creepy and disturbing but the goatman might not have even had any malicious intent; he might've just wanted to hang out a bit. The cooked blood smell might've just been from an injury or it could've been someone else cooking in the distance. Still an awesome story. I like how Mrcreepypasta changes his voice and vocabulary to suit the story, hell, read the story "the black cat" and notice a huge difference in delivery.

The Goat man actually is an Amish story, originated early on the XX century, allegedly a couple that "got busy" before marriage, therefore committing a sin, the baby they had was born as a half-goat half-human hybrid, they kept that thing a secret, until the mother, who loved her baby, decided to take hin to the church and the community was like "Yo', that nigga ain't normal" they tried to escape, but the baby tan to the forest, becoming later a Goat man, and I dunno, that's what I've heard.

Despite the extreme overuse of f-bombs, this is a really good story, I felt genuine suspense the whole time, and the reactions were believable. No one made any dumb decisions that would be too dumb for real life.

AND in REAL life people in high stress situations DO sure as hell swear.
Studies have been done that PROVE swearing HELPS relieve pain & stress MORE so then fake swear words.
      Look it up.

I still think, all these years later, This is one of the best creepypasta there is.
No landslide ending that jumps the shark, No huge leap of logic, Just a story that kinda freaks you out because you could almost imagine it happening to you.

It wouldn't have been as scary unless they talked about the packs of brats in such detail

I wonder how many of those rake and skinwalker stories would have ended differently if they'd just offered the damn thing a brat and a beer....
