  • South Africa is a place for cruising sailors to make repairs and rest after the grueling Indian Ocean crossing and before attempting to sail cross the South Atlantic. We planned to stop here to work on Florence but we did not plan to get stuck here for so long. In this video we explain why Florence has not moved from the dock for 3 months. Sailing around the world is full of surprises.
We have been sailing around the world for 6 years after setting off from England in 2016 on board our 37ft sail boat Florence. Join us as we share the highs, lows, and challenges of travelling around the world by boat, Sailing offshore across the Oceans and exploring remote locations with our own little tiny house. Boat life out at sea on the ocean and off the grid.

Matt and Amy, I am so pleased that you enjoyed our country and its fairest Cape so much. It truly is a special country, despite its utterly corrupt and inept government. But her people are wonderful and resilient. May we prevail against the ravages of the ANC, because we love South Africa so much. Thank you for the great portrayal of a beautiful place that I am proud to call home.

What an awesome video, one trends to forget how uniquely homely Cape Town is. Thank you for the reminder.
After living almost 50 years in Cape Town (false bay side) I have yet to find a more beautiful place to call home and return to.
As a kid I swam at Boulders beach and can honestly say the colony has grown exponentially the now closed foxy beach (where the penguins are full up) used to be where we played in the waves.
Cape Town and it's people are unique and awesome.
PS don't forget the awesome fish and chips at Snookies and fish on the rocks, also the Hout bay market is awesome. Enjoy.

The sights as you glaze from the creeks and cliffs surrounding that area are breathtaking. I agree, Hout Bay is a beautiful place, not only to visit but to live in and why not settle there. No wonder you chose to stay there for much longer than what initially planned. I never thought the neighbouring areas of Cape Town were that beautiful, I can truly say I am infatuated with that place and the beauty of its surrounding nature. I would lovingly call your style of “stuck”, a little short of what the rest of us call it.
In La Paz Mexico, I met a Japanese cruising couple who only gave themselves 2 weeks to see the Sea of Cortez! (Baja)
It seemed a terrible shame to me to come so far and not allow more time.
    Stuck isn’t trapped.

Thanks :-). The water temperature definitely discouraged any swimming. Apart from the swim with the seals and a few required swims to perform underwater maintenance on Florence we stayed out of the water!

Being from Cape Town it is quite emotional seeing how foreigners love our country, knowing all the local and political problems South Africa are challenged with. I have to agree for American, European, and Australians it is quite inexpensive in South Africa and we still have quality products.

So glad you are having fun in the Cape. Yes we SAFAS are hospitable and easy going. Sure politics can get in the way, but we have so much to offer. Next time go up to Port Owen, where life will be even cheeper and the folks will be "the salt of the earth". I count myself as lucky to have lived and visited all of these places from Richards Bay to the West Coast and each one has it charm and beauty. We would love to have you here forever!

Epic video again! Love the different sorts of music, fitting the scenes perfectly. We've been to al these places so it's a sort of flashback. Funny to search your photo's and all memories come back, thank you for that as well :)

You should have seen this place 20 years ago! So beautiful. There has been gross over development due to a negligent government.
