What's your favourite joke/quote from this jam? Mine is sh*t sandwich 🤣
It goes to 11 is probably the most famous one.
Getting lost backstage scene. That ALWAYS gets me.
@@BigGator5 One of the band mates (I forget who) was receiving an award and got lost back stage. During his third lap around the hallways a security guard quoted a line from that scene to him (I forget which). He told that story on a talk show decades ago.
"I envy us"
My favourite quote has to be "what are the hours?"; it's absolutely perfect.
"Yeah, listen, we'd love to stand around and chat, but we've gotta... sit down in the lobby and wait for the limo."
"People should envy us. I envy us."
"So do I."
on the herpes, there was a deleted plotline involving an opening act of an all female band they apparently all caught it from.
How do you know about that sub-plot? Did you find out from extras in the blue ray/dvd?
Supposedly Sandra Bullock was one of the members of the band. Lost forever?
"It's such a fine line between stupid and clever." LOL How true!
Fun fact, the guy that got caught in the pod is the voice of many Simpsons characters including Principal Skinner, the preacher, the news caster and the baseball announcer. He also has a small role in a movie called The Right Stuff, which you might enjoy.
Harry Shearer. He also has a great weekly podcast called "Le Show". 😀👍🏻
>''we're cancelled''
''at the hotel?'' ...... (lol)
if you listen in the background you can hear one of them break character and start laughing right after he asked ''at the hotel?'' ... lol ... i think rob reiner liked the joke so much he said screw it and just left it in the movie. and great choice by reiner because it's one of my favorite little jokes in spinal tap that most people either didn't even notice or forget about it completely.
Her face at 18:21 when she first sees the little descending Stonehenge. 😂
“Better left unsolved”
This is one of the original mockumentary (mock or spoof documentary) films along with "The Rutles: All You Need Is Cash," which came out a few years before "Tap." "The Rutles" starred many of the members of the British comedy troup Monty Python and directly spoofed The Beatles.
"Such a fine line between stupid and clever..."
Nigel isn't in love with David; he just knows what's going to happen once the girlfriend comes on the road with the band. Or maybe he is...what do I know?
You see that in every pack of friends or a beginner band. The girl or girls appear and the guy or guys start to drift apart. Group dynamics would be the name for that phenomenon.
The problem here is basically inviting an outsider into the band and letting them have a say and screw up things with the management. Most people don't invite their girlfriends to do as they please in their workplace and for a good reason. It's even worse for an operation like a band.
@@blechtic Absolutely. Spouses aren't allowed into corporate business meetings. Clear lines need to be drawn. Being in a band is a business venture.
The whole band is lovable in their innocent exuberance for living out the larger than life drama of "The Majesty of Rock". They take it all quite seriously, see themselves as being Rock Gods doing truly visionary material (and it is VERY good material of its type, by the way), yet they remain rather humble in a way at the same time, and that's both hilarious and downright touching. But one thing is beyond question: Nigel is the most lovable of ALL of them, because he is SO innocent! And besides, his guitar solos are epic! Not to mention his taste in clothing. Ian Faith is the perfect manager for that band too. David St. Hubbins is the perfect lead singer. Derek Smalls is the perfect bass player. So, it's a good thing that "Sex Farm" hit it big in Japan and restored their fortunes when all seemed lost. After all, can you really see them doing anything else in life??? I can't. They were born to make eardrums bleed.
"A very nice message of 'Bros before hos'" -- Now, THAT was funny!!! :-)
"...especially one that dresses like an Australian's nightmare!" I think you're ready for the Second City Asylum escapees other mockumentary masterpieces. "A Mighty Wind," "Best in Show," "Waiting for Guffman" and "For Your Consideration." You might also checkout Python's "The Rutles." (1978)
What a fun reaction! The fact that you recognized the different styles of rock and that they were parodying John & Yoko makes this reaction special. And yeah, you're right, there are things in the movie that may fly over your head only because virtually everything in this movie is referencing some rock & roll legend. And so as you go through life, and you learn a little more about different artists, you see MORE in Spinal Tap, and catch more jokes. But you don't have to know all those things to get it. You DEFINITELY are a rock & roll woman and you completely understood the movie fine. When this movie made you laugh, it was a great thing to see!
Love your enthusiasm - many of us there from the beginning. Janine is Yoko, Nigel hates her. Christopher Guest is Nigel, married to Jamie Lee!
"Nigel" was also in Princess Bride (which was also directed by Rob Reiner) and has a small part in A Few Good Men (which I think you would enjoy).
I tried watching Princess Bride two years ago, and couldn't quite get into it. Might have to give it another try!
@@MichalZismanReactions Hmmm some of the early castle scenes are a bit tedious. If you get as far as the meeting with the "circus performers" it should be more enjoyable from there.
Billy Crystal and Rob Reiner's hat also made it into Princess Bride.
@@MichalZismanReactions "The Princess Bride" uses very dry and witty humor rather than broad comedy.
Once you watch it when you are in a certain type of silly mood, it becomes hilariously funny.
Everyone loves Nigel.
favorite bit: These go up to 11.
Nigel is totally lovable. His absolutely innocent and sincere love for the exaggerate romance of playing Hard Rock and being a Guitar God (strong resemblance to Jeff Beck), combined with his deep "closer than a brother" emotional connection with David....and his frequently clueless misunderstandings of quite simple situations............they all combine to make him a very sympathetic character. It just feels really good to see him feeling happy!
It's a one camera documentary, so you don't see a crew.
The soundtrack to this movie has an all black cover.
"I kinda see the armadillo" - well, thank you. Now I do too. Forever. 😀
Lots of stars in this movie: Fran Drescher, Fred Willard, Paul Shaffer, Billy Crystal, Ed Begley Jr., Dana Carvey, Anjelica Huston, Howard Hesseman, Patrick Macnee.
Bruno Kirby, Paul Benedict.
Where was Dana Carvey in this?
He played the mime waiter with Billy Crystal, who told him: "Mime is money."
It's nice to know there's something that will melt your cold heart!
J/K, great reaction to a killer movie :)
You'll have to fight Jaimie Lee Curtis over Nigel... she too fell in love with him when she saw the film and married him.
Haha lucky Jaimie
If Nigel melts your cold heart, the cure for that is to immediately watch the Princess Bride. He plays the villainous Six-Fingered Man.
Christopher Guest Is a huge fan of the late Jeff Beck, He gave Jeff the leather jacket Nigel wore in the last scene .And the movie is all improvised !!! as was the bands reaction to the album reviews were the real reactions from the actors.
I Absolutely loved your reaction to Spinal Tap. Being a musician myself, this is one of my favorite movies of all time. I've seen dozens of people react to this movie and of all those people you have caught the most jokes, innuendoes and inside plots! You are really intelligent and very, very sweet. I absolutely love your laugh. Its so warm and welcoming. I just subscribed to your channel and I can't wait to see the rest of your videos and the future ones to come. You are a very special lady and i thank you for making my night special as well. May your channel grow beyond your wildest dreams. Peace & love from Florida. Sincerely,
-S. Mojo
Thanks for the love, Mojo!
@@MichalZismanReactions You're welcome Michal. ❤ I'm sorry for the late reply, this stupid thing never gives me my messages. Hope your doing well with your channel and all is well in your world. 😊🤘❤
this film was the original "mockumentary" I was blessed to have seen them live
...your reactions were so worried, warm and intelligent and serious that i almoust forget, that this movie is a comedy. (?) I guuess. ?
Lot's of admirationns to your reactions. And... i' m thankfull that you said a 2 (?) Cursewords. Or, maybe it was my ears.
you should also watch a movie called 'waiting for guffman' its another christopher guest(nigel) movie with a lot of the same cast. they have made a couple of great movies in this format, also 'best in show'.
I think only Fred Willard and Guest are in Guffman, the others joined him for some of his other films (although McKean co-wrote some of the songs with his wife).
Nigel is good at guitar because his fingers go to 11
I wanna go to the Electric Banana.
I saw them live at Glastonbury Festival (2008?)
They really are great musicians, as well as being genius comedians/actors...
Mr Burns (Harry Shearer) on bass being a particular highlight!
4:20 Actually, Fat Bottomed Girls (Queen) and Whole Lotta Rosie (AC/DC) both pre-dated Big Bottom
Oh, very cool! I'm just going to assume you watched this one based off of my suggestion, don't correct me if I'm wrong! Either way, very happy you covered it!
You were the most recent recommender 😁
greatest movie ever
17:53 A young Anjelica Huston as the "Stonehenge" sculptor
Yes, I realised it was her when I was editing the video 🙂
First saw this when I was maybe 12, and have been loving it ever since 😀They're doing a second Spinal Tap movie, and it's one of the few remakes I'm not overly worried about, because I've seen the guys do interviews in character over the years and I still found quite a bit of it funny
Oh I will definitely watch it 😄
@@MichalZismanReactions awesome. one thing I might have got wrong though, I said remake, and I'm not sure what exactly it is, whether that or a sequel or what. Just wanted to clarify
@@Justin_WithThreeDots what it will be is good, very very good.
They technically did a sequel in the late 90s, but officially it's just a spin-off.
I've always thought that Nigel was in love with David, or at least had a crush. You're the first reactor I've seen to comment on that. Also, there was no PG-13 when this was released. It probably would have gotten PG-13 today, but I there was a little too much swearing for it to get a PG.
I didn't take it that way. I think it was meant to be a spoof of the John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Yoko Ono situation.
Nigel sees her as an interloper on tour who will meddle in the brand and kill his fun.
He just doesn't like his girlfriend because she doesn't have any knowledge of the business but pushes her way into the decision making and manipulates David.
It is pretty ambiguous... so it could be that Nigel is in love with David or it's a platonic, brotherly love.
Either way works, frankly.
@@robhax Agreed - and I like that they left it ambiguous. The term I got from my daughter for this kind of thing is “head cannon,” a personal interpretation of what’s there that isn’t explicitly stated but fits the situation. My take is based on nothing more than the expression on Nigel’s face in a few scenes. Christopher Guest might say that he played it with one or another intention, but that’s not in the movie itself. It makes perfect sense to me that others would watch the exact same thing and draw different conclusions.
I honestly appreciated your Fran Drescher comment about the glove Etc. I'm embarrassed to admit that I never picked up on that connection in all the times I've seen this film.
She is such a ray of sunshine 💕
@@MichalZismanReactions Agreed. A fine woman.
@@trespasserswill7052 pardon the pun?
@@Scottie_S Pun?
Her name was Fran 'Fine' in The Nanny. I thoughht you were making a pun.
This movies goes up to 11 for me! Lol!
😆
your comments were spot on and insightful; nigel in love with david... who would've thunk it?!
I think lyrics from “Big Bottoms” and titles like “Lick My Love Pump” and “Smell the Glove” accounted for the “R” rating. When this was released my friends and I had pretty much memorized the script and talked in “Tap”. If somone got lost: “If you’d drive without some fucking angel hanging over your head.” A messy room: “ You could do without all the mucky muck.” or… “This meal would be better with Dublin…” The possibilities are endless.
I bought the soundtrack lp when it came out, and it included the lyrics to all the songs. My sister and I gave the page of lyrics to our mom, and dared her to read it. She was in her 50s, I think, and I remember her just snatching it in a "I'll show you, you pair of smartasses" way and she started reading "Sex Farm" out loud. By the time she got to "poking your hay" we were lying on the floor laughing hysterically.
@@Wanda711 Hilarious! Events like that really demanded camera phones. 🫤
Have you done Marvel movies? Maverick Top Gun with Tom Cruise or Maverick Top Gun or Denzell in Man on Fire or Tom Cruise in The Last Samurai. All incredible shows that will get a lot a views ;)
what? i never knew Nigel was in love with the other dude. they shoulda done a threeway with the hot chick.
Hogwood: A summer camp for pale young boys
5:51 What did happen to Fran Drescher? I have no idea who she is.
Ok, so you have to see The Nanny. Such a fun show, and she's soooo funny in it!
Back in the eighties, two men broke into her house and attacked her and her friend.
Fran is now the president of Screen Actors Guild and she is of course in the news as she is leading to get a deal in which actors are getting better streaming deals as well as deals involving AI.
what happened to Fran Drescher?
Two men broke into her house and r*ped her and her friend.
@@MichalZismanReactions oh my god, that's tragic, i had no idea
What happened with fran drescher?
She and a friend were r*ped at her home. I think it happened a year after this movie came out.
Amazing how generations interpret things, or at least, apply their current sensibilities to the past.
More than likely, it's because they don't know the past.
Jeanine is Yoko Ono. This isn't a love triangle between David, Nigel and her, let alone, anything homosexual.
They are just playing out a band breakup like The Beatles.
I literally talk about The Beatles and Yoko Ono in the video. But in my head cannon, Nigel is in love 🤣
3:33 who is this guy speaking? his voice sounds very familiar
From out of off of The Avengers (not that one).
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Macnee
@@scottwilkinson8378 thank you, I think I probably recognize him from 'A View To A Kill'
"Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?"
"These go to eleven."
Fun Fact: Although the scenarios where written in advance, much of the dialogue was ad-libbed.
Music Enthusiast Fact: The actors are all competent musicians, so they co-wrote all the original songs and they're actually playing on the soundtrack. Although I found no charting information, Big Bottom (1984) specifically is considered a rock classic.
Historical Fact: Several rock stars have commented on what an uncannily accurate spoof of the rock and heavy metal world this film was. Ozzy Osbourne said when he first watched the film, he was the only person who WASN'T laughing; he thought it was a real documentary. U2 guitarist The Edge said, "I didn't laugh, I wept. It was so close to the truth." Marillion had five drummers in the space of a year between their first two albums, which guitarist Steve Rothery later admitted was "like Spinal Tap."
It was Restricted in the US only because of the fairly excessive profanity.
you are very full
0:07 Good! Take a _long_ detour. 🤦♂
