  • In 2010 Michael Landy became the National Gallery’s eighth Associate Artist. Handed the keys to a studio in the depths of the Gallery, he spent two years working amongst this renowned collection of paintings. The result was ‘Saints Alive’: an exhibition of startling and noisy mechanical sculptures made from recycled junk, in homage to the kinetic work of Michael’s artistic hero Jean Tinguely and inspired by the often bizarre and miraculous stories of the Saints who populate the Gallery’s paintings. This film, made to accompany the show, which attracted international acclaim and over 200,000 visitors, goes behind the scenes at Michael’s studio and visits a South London art foundry, showing how Landy brought the Saints of the National Gallery to life. Produced and Directed by Jared Schiller for the National Gallery, London.

I'm so amazed this has so few views. It's really informative and well shot. Where else was this shown?

YEP YES Thank you. It was shown at the National Gallery on a loop during Michael’s exhibition, but wasn’t put online at the time. Glad you like it.
