- Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms - LIVE Wembley 1988

It's a hymn. It's an anthem. It's gold.
Now let's be clear. This is music, not today's bullshit
If you confine yourself to today's charting songs, you miss the good stuff that didn't chart. Just like this song only got to 16 in the UK and didn't chart at all in the US. I love the artistry and emotion and talent of this song, but there are a lot of great young artists out there even today. You just have to look for it.
@@jithel7948 Yes, but back then, in TOP100 there were like 60 rock songs. And now? One, two, I guess zero.
@@beerforedd7897social media has made it so the chart topping songs are catchy and replayable. There’s still A LOT of really exceptional artists making music, even in the rock genre. But modern chart songs do feel lifeless I agree. Nostalgia also is heavy
❤😮😂😂@@jithel7948
I'll be 80 this year and still listening to Mark Knoppler.
A true genius with his guitar.
Saw them live at Gateshead Stadium in 1992, absolutely brilliant
I’m 82 this year & totally devoted to MK in DS & Solo. A lovely humble magical musician. I❤MK
I'm 16 yo discovered this thanks to my dad who is a long time fan. His music is truly amazing @@SashanMusArt
yeah man, I have turned 50 I think we both have seen a legend alive.
greatest of all if you ask me
Play this song all over the world! Play it loud! Play it as loud as you can!
yes yes yes will we ever learn!!
Playing it now in San Juan, Puerto rico.
Bravo
The guitar solo in that song is a masterpiece.
Entering in paradise.......
Must be the best ever made ❤
Miss my son only26 when he passed away to a nasty cancer every day I miss you so much
So sorry for your loss
Love from Norway ❤🇳🇴❤
I love you , take care and live for the ones we have lost
Love you Debbie, and your dear son. ❤
For me the best version ever. Epic. And one of the best guitar solo's. Personally Brothers in arms is the greatest song ever.
Agreed. There maybe be techinally better performances but Knopler at that moment, breeze blowing, at the height of fame...the raw emotion I consider it the greatest live guitar performance. A master guitar picker.
Great Generation . Great People. Great Music. Great World.
Today?? Lost World.
Eric Clapton, a guitar legend himself, was kind and humble enough to accept playing rhythm guitar for Mark.
The same happened with mark,
Both legends did the same in so many concerts with each other
I seen that as well. Honor man!
I have seen both in concert separately and mark was my favourite. To me mark is the best guitarist ever.
35 years later and still goosebumps. There will never be a better song written and there will never be a better guitarist, in my opinion. Timeless and beautiful
It's actually 35 years later ... ;-)
got to agree with you on that
Absolutely magnificent, we miss like this kind of music
Love this tune and story MK is so brilliant
Gilmour guitar king. But this is amazing.
Sir Mark, you were my fathers favourite here in Australia. I played this at his funeral. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
What a powerful way to honor your father
I need a tab for this do you have one?
Only a knighthood? He deserves a peerage, arise Lord Knopfler.
My neighbour had it at his funeral just a few months ago.
The most melodic guitar player I have ever heard. You just want to hear what note comes next even if you've heard it 10,000 times before.
Before I would say very emotional gutar player
And Eric Clapton too
What about Mattias Jabs from the Scorpions??
(Still loving you for example) his guitar play is also filled with emotions, always. I love his guitar play too.
But yes, MK is also a great guitar player.
I'm feeling this song and the guitar play filled with pain deep in my heart every time I'm listening to it and I'm tearing up way too often.
David Gilmore (Pink Floyd) plays also melodic
When the guitar merges with the song, we realize that Sir Mark Knopffler is a once-in-generation national treasure.
Yep, we will never see something like this again I'm afraid to say 😢
Well said !!!!!!!!!
@@matthewneeds285 Sadly true. The culture of producing great bands, music, entertainment is over. Not what it used to be...
I really pity the under 30's (possibly 35) who will never know or experience what we did.

after watching all the live versions i think i must say that this is the best one.
This one is the best...Live in Nimes comes in second.
Concert for Monserat was dam good!
Maybe On the night..
@@zijadmujak5725 Yeah On the night is close but I think his guitar solo is better here
Certainly the best year of all time. 1988.
One of the most haunting songs in rock history. It binds your soul, and shedding tears is the only avenue of escape. A modern masterpiece.
What I love about this version is that a guitar god is on stage, simply playing background guitar for another one, knowing that even though his playing is beautiful like crazy, this one is Mark's alone...
EC has nothing to prove; many CZcams videos demonstrate that he is happy to take a backseat from time to time, and backup another guitarist. But he's not just 'playing background guitar': listen to this song using a laptop and good headphones, and you will hear Eric's guitar through the right speaker.
Thanks, You Got It! I did too! Hi from downtown Montreal!

This is what is so nice about Dire Straits: They put everything into the music, not the show.
This song speaks to your soul. Sheer poetic and musical brilliance.

Hope he knows Jesus. He is a wonderful talent and personality

Mark just looks like some kind of Music God when he play this.
Man, that moment at the end where the audience is roaring and Knopfler tries to speak but clearly gets choked up and can’t…powerful magical stuff. One of the most profound performances and totally fitting to honor Mandela. Emotional video.
Very different sound compared to his Les Paul. But the more I listen to it, the more I am inclined to say that this has to be one of the best guitar performances of all times. The emotion, skills, the expression, the sincerety is mind blowing. His friend Eric's expression at 6:58 says it all... Mozart is smiling from above

The guitarist is just on another level. Incredible perf
I have a very eclective range of musical likes, but I swear that this is the only song that I can't help breaking up in tears within the first ten seconds

Cant see a smartphone, they must be just watching ,listening and remembering, forever.
It's 1988 - smartphones weren't invented. First Apple Iphone January 2007. The very first digital camera came out in 1988 from Fuji - it was the size of a shoebox.
There is really nothing to say. Mark and his melodic perfection say it all.
Went to this tour in Brisbane Australia 1987, great show, great song
Every time I listen to Dire Straits I have an “experience”, just wonderful.
What a beautiful guitar.
I'm trying to find the right words to define the emotion that this song has surged in me. Is the first time, other than, everyone that tells my husband, " ( a Vietnam Era tank commander), Thank you for your sevice", and seeing every time another veteran and my husband shake hands and have a few words, even when they don't know each other. Now I understand, they are brothers in arms. Thank you, Mark for this emotional song.
The reason people love this is because it's authentic, and we as humans can sense this and what a talent Mark is and his music and his soul. End of story.
The day "AI" steals this, we might as well give up.
Funny, because this video has been upscaled by AI. 🤣

My husband is a retired parabat and this song speaks to him on a very personal note. He is currently battling terminal cancer but this outstanding piece of modern, classical music buoys him up. I, as a pacifist, focus on the last line which says "We're fools to make war, On our brothers in arms". Pax

The last minute… the flutes slowly fading out, the moment he goes to speak but is too emotional, and the rage in the guitar at the end. Spine chilling, heartbreaking and brilliant.
My 2 Grandpas served in WW2. One was shot with a 50 caliber in the leg. I miss the stories. RIP PAPAS
If you're craving perfection, this song is it. A timeless masterpiece!
I have played guitar for many years, I know the pain and suffering involved. I love rock guitar greats like Steve Vai, Satriani, Hendrix, Page, Slash, George Lynch, John Sykes, Gary Moore etc. Watch a genius at work my friends. It doesn't need 1000 notes a second, just the right notes in the rights places. Not only that a talent to write great lyrics and the emotion/soul required to pull off such a song. I recommend Gary Moore's Parisienne walkway next.
One of favorite performances of any music ever... masterful perfection
