  • Surfing is like fishing. In surfing your goal is to catch waves, in fishing your goal is to catch fish. In surfing, just like fishing, the reality is you spent most of your time with the process, and not the actual catching.
There's a lot that goes into that process too: dealing with crowds, personal fitness, positioning, reading the waves... we could go on forever here.
In this video, I'll tell you why an 11 foot board is the "secret weapon" to maximizing your fun. More waves, less missed waves, more fun, plenty of shred, and near constant priority over the crowd.
I know, this sounds silly and flies in the face of all surf lore. Get a lonboard to start, move on if you're any good. Welp, I'm here to tell you that going up will increase your fun far more than going down in size!
Try it and see for yourself. I bought my 11 foot board as a fun joke, and I couldn't have been more wrong about how it shreds!

I use both short and long. Best of both worlds, especially depending on conditions. It is definately true the long board has proven to be the board I use the most. It is more versatile as you said, and I live so where where the waves are smaller and softer so the long board excels here.

Yeah the waves here are also generally small and many nearby spots are soft even as they grow to overhead. There's generally always something for this board and it's pretty rare when I bring it that it's the entirely wrong board.

Honestly I wish I couldn't relate. Around here every time I drop down to a short length or similar board I just get lapped by anorexic longboarders.
      Such is the game unfortunately.
