      Things have changed a bit since I made that video, but it's still the same basic premise. Push the beer out of the tank with CO2, slowly bleed off the gas in the keg until it's full. Et viola!

    A valve in the feed tube just above the Shanky connector saves a lot of time and effort.
    I filled many hundred of kegs this way when I still worked at our local brewery.

    Please purge your tri-clamp gas connection at the CIP arm before opening the valve to the spray ball. Leave the clamp loose and wiggle the hose until it vents CO2 from the regulator.
    I would also recommend an extra "purge T" at the base of your kegging rig to flush out oxygen prior to beer entering the line and/or opening first keg connections to line.
    O2 exposure at 3:25 (whole tank) and 6:15 (probably both kegs)
    Not intended to be snide, only to help preserve the original quality of your beer.

    • @roberteischen7398
      @roberteischen7398 Před 5 lety

      @Tony Lemos For the line to tank connection, yes, the gap between hookups. Apply gas and loosen the tri clamp connection to purge out 02 before opening the tank butterfly on the cip arm.
      For the keg manifold an extra tri clamp T at the tank with a valve that a CO2 line will be connected to. The CO2 can be used to purge sani/O2 from the keg lines using a valve at the sanke tap before attaching to the keg. Every little bit counts.

    • @roberteischen7398
      @roberteischen7398 Před 5 lety

      @Tony Lemos Correct, the first kegs attached will get an extra shot of O2. It will eventually be displaced as beer fills the keg. It is turbulent inside a filling keg so fresh beer is constantly exposed to any 02 in the headspace.

      at 6:15 the air that was in the lines went into the purged kegs. Yes it will eventually get pushed out as the kegs fill, but why add any extra 02.

    • @ManSkirtBrew

      Hey Adam. They're sanitized and stored under positive CO2 pressure, so I feel comfortable leaving them clean as long as is required.

  • @debuenzo
    @debuenzo Před 4 lety

    Can you hook up the gas out hoses from the sankes to the gas in tube of the bright tank? The existing co2 in each keg would fill the brite with the corresponding volume of co2, and gravity should allow the beer to flow. Closed loop with no wasted co2.

    • @ManSkirtBrew
      @ManSkirtBrew  Před 4 lety +1

      That is true, but the point of pressurizing the tank and bleeding the kegs down slowly is to keep backpressure on the beer, keeping the CO2 in solution. Gravity feeding wouldn't allow that, would be very slow, and would leave a lot of wasted beer in the tank.

    • @debuenzo
      @debuenzo Před 4 lety

      @@ManSkirtBrew hmm, I figured the height and volume of the beer in the brite would allow for a quick flow rate if brite pressure matched keg pressure, and doesnt the tank drain from the bottom? How would beer be left behind?

    • @ManSkirtBrew
      @ManSkirtBrew  Před 2 lety

      I put 10-12psi head pressure on the tank I'm filling from, and that's the pressure I leave the kegs at. I'm not sure what you're asking about releasing pressure from the brite tank.

    • @vishamchinkan6920
      @vishamchinkan6920 Před 2 lety

      Never fillied kegs from unitank/brite tank, just trying to gain some knowledge on how do so. My first time I just hooked up the co2 line to the cane blowoff valve on the unitank while my unitank pressure was 14psi and started to fill the kegs (rapidly) and I ended up getting lots of foam about 3-4 gallons worth of beer through the gas line(no shut-off valve like you). It hurt me to waste all that.

  • @craigrmeyer
    @craigrmeyer Před 2 lety

    Why pre-fill and pre-pressurize the kegs with CO2? There must be a reason why you do this. What is it? Is it to make sure that after the beer goes in, the ullage space at the top of the keg is full of CO2 and CO2 only?

    • @ManSkirtBrew
      @ManSkirtBrew  Před 2 lety

      That, and to make sure that the beer isn't mixing with O2 in the keg while we're filling it, which would cause oxidation and staling. Basically oxygen is the enemy of fresh beer, and we avoid it everywhere we can.
