- Lourdes Ritchie has been living with rheumatoid arthritis, and the inflammation it causes, for thirty years. The pain often makes it difficult for her to fall asleep and stay asleep. A University of Pittsburg study, published recently in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, showed that patients who don't sleep well face a greater risk of functional disability.
