They ruined the fact Artemis Fowl was an absolute Mad Lad that conned nearly the entire fairy race woke his Mother from a Coma using the Fairies that he conned and has a body guard that can 1v1 a Troll which according to the fairies should be impossible
This was about as bad a movie adaptation as I've ever seen.

not to mention they mixed like three random plotlines from the books and made a new one so there would be stakes. they should have made a tv show, it would have worked better

That's simply a totally different story than in the book. I don't like it, because the book is so much better.
Artemis is a pale and weak boy, but he's so clever that you have to respect him. Since his birth he's guarded by a huge Eurasian named Butler, who's skillfull in the use of multiple weapons but also knows a hundred ways to bring you to death within seconds without using any of them. Artemis is after the gold of the underground ones. He wants to restore the fortune of his family. His mother lays in bed and is mentally ill since the disappearence of Artemis' father. Artemis father is a crime king and Artemis is not slightest bit ashamed of it. In fact he has no skruples to get what he wants.

@@tannerrich2388 For something light and fun, I'd say so! Artemis's character is MUCH more interesting in the books because he evolves and grows over time. As the OP mentioned, he was a brilliant criminal whose sole purpose for the fairies was to exploit them and his plans were actually clever and WORKED.

@@tannerrich2388 I read it in elementary, so some of what I remember might be better than reality, but yes, it should be worth a read. If you enjoy even the concepts of the movie, then you'll enjoy the books for a light read. Even if you don't, it shouldn't take more than a few hours per book, so not much time wasted.

They totally botched it. The appeal of it was that AF was absolutely not ashamed or guilty about doing crime to get what he wants. Most importantly, he took the initiative to find the fairies, not this abomination where it was fed to him and the whole thing revolving around old unresolved shit from his father. He should’ve made himself something unique, not daddy 2.0.
It's not just that the movie wasn't true to the books that make it bad, it's just a bad movie by itself, not being true to the book just adds salt to the wound

Absolutely horrendous depiction. Artemis Fowl isn't in control of anything here, where he's in complete control in the book, and handles the mishaps beautifully.

I love those books... As a matter of fact I used to know the elf alphabet fluently so I used it to make my cheat sheats in school. So when I found out there is movie, I was like: OMG OMG OMG how is it possible I did not know about it sooner? But thanks to this video I know I should stick with books and do not let movie makers ruin this excelent story.

I havent watched the movie and im currently on the lost colony cause i basically started like a few weeks ago but this isnt really accurate and mulch was not artemis seniors partner and artemis senior was missing in the first book and artemis mum wasnt dead she was just kinda traumatized?i think.And also opal wasnt really involved in the first book if i remember correctly and what is the aculos??

Decided from the first rumours about this film, that I`ld never watch it and stick to the books!
love the books and most movies do well when made from the book aka harry potter. but Disney messed this up so bad. when i saw that they were making a movie of this i was so happy. i have read the series more over 100 time more then any books series i have read. so when i saw the movie on disney+ i was so mad at how bad they got the whole movie wrong i throw my remote across the room braking it and then canceled disney+. i know much books to movies are going to leave stuff out but they didn't even do that they just go everything wrong. it like who ever was in charge was a 5 year old who never mad a movie before and thanks to covid the movie didn't even have a chance to fail in the theater. so disney got away with it like nothing happed

What is it with movie adaptation and innocent kids with troubled family background being forced to make a deal with enemies to save the world? Artemis is not even close to innocent. The boy has no qualm committing crime. He's even proud of it, to the chagrin of most people. The kid is no hero. He only became a hero, hesitantly at that, on book 2. He's the main villain on book 1.
