This tool is now available as of 6/15! amzn.to/2Sl3McC No clickbait, we actually have Eric O of @SouthMainAuto fame's bean maker, his extra special top secret mystery air impact wrench. Let's see what power it makes vs some of the best in the industry.
6/15 update: It's here! amzn.to/3pVUO1E
June Update. It's Astro 1894 "THOR" impact wrench rated for 940 ft-lbs only! But they do say compare to 1600 ft-lbs nut-busting.
April update: It's been unmasked! Astro's new "THOR" impact wrench. No word on availability, price or model number yet.
March update: We bought an OEM tool that looked identical to this, thought we had blown the mystery out of the water. But it didn't make close to the power SMA's mystery impact did, upon taking it apart the rotor/cylinder internals are all smaller. Mystery NOT solved.
If/when the mystery is solved, I’m sure I won’t be the only person checking back here for updates. Keep up the good work. This channel has been very helpful.
It’s Eric’s abuse program that makes all the difference
You called it
fantastic, mine jut pooped the bed so it was time fora new one, i'll use my older spare until it gets relased
It has the front end shape and torque setting adjusments of an AirPro 1/2inch
-First off you be nice to my baby, oh and tell it I said "hey." Also I am not allowed to say who makes it because I don't need a visit in the middle of the night from some guy with an accent driving a dark sedan.
-Second and most important... I CAN GET MORE POWER OUT OF THAT SUCKER!!?? (replumbing the shop with 1" air line as we speak) and as soon as I get it back that 3/8 bushing is going in the trash 😬 while checking other tools for this obvious restriction.
-Third, I thought it was common knowledge to use "the wet line" in the shop for more power. Like I said, it's like nitro for air tools. I'm a little offended to know you think this is abuse pfffff 😐 I'll have you know I oiled that gun AT THE LEAST once or twice a year and only fed it a diet of 160psi. It loved every minute of it.
-Forth.... sorry about your socket haha
-Fifth build a test rigs for air hammers. I got a lil custom built surprise I could let ya barrow 😏
Next up: THOR test rig!
I once had a Onyx (Astro Pnumatic) die grinder. What I think killed it was the water in the air lines. It caused the insides to rust together, and washed away the oil which wore out the air motor vanes. When one vane got paper thin, it jammed, and until I can source/make vanes, it's trash.
So my question is, can you get replacement parts for your mystery tool?
And Eric O thinks we watch his channel because of him...
@@jonnda never really thought of getting parts for any of my air tools. Well I did replace a few anvils in my life I usually get the life expectancy I'm happy with out of them and I just replaced them.
@@SouthMainAuto I’m just jealous of your shop, all your tools, and the people that get to work with you and steal ur knowledge and one liners. That would be nice! Never have I missed an episode of south main auto.
I can see Eric, Vanessa and the kids sitting around the laptop right about now with big grins and thinking we need to go get ice cream to celebrate! Awesome video.
Dang right 😁 I'm pretty proud of that little guy
@@SouthMainAuto: Ice cream during NY winters? What a beast!
I came here because of SMA!
Me too!
@@SouthMainAuto 😂
"You're a dammed bold face liar!" LOL!!!!! Eric O uses his tools! He wore out the HF cordless impact seen on AvE's channel! Great video and great with no annoying music playing in the background!
Hey thanks! We try to keep it stupid simple. Might not be a laser light show with shock jocks shouting at ya, but we prefer to let the data do the talking.
@@TorqueTestChannel I like your style. All beans, no fluff.
a question I have now is ... if this is its performance after over a year of SMA abuse; what was its performance brand new ... and how does his new engraved limited edition tool compare.
@@zakuraayame5091 It's possible that the gun is stronger now than when it was brand new. The vanes and the motor cylinder have had time to polish themselves to perfection and haven't had enough use to be worn out yet. A tool like this is designed (hopefully) to last for years of regular use with little maintenance aside from occasional oiling. If it was made in Taiwan then it could be made from excellent quality castings and have sturdy material for the vanes. I doubt that there is much difference in torque except at the very ends of the lifespan of the tool, early on break-in and end stage deterioration. Just a guess.
@@marscruz thank you very much for that well thought out reply; it is greatly appreciated /bow
After its use in SMA and this video, they're going to use "Beans" and "Ugga Duggas" as the legitimate units of measure on the box.
lol
what surprised me the most was how well the cordless Milwaukee kept up with the best 1/2" air impact you can't even buy
Right? Tempted to order one of these Milwaukees now after watching this.
@@automotiveperformancemobil4030 I have one and while I don't have to use it often, I have yet to not get a bolt either removed or snapped with it. Its worth it man
Dude. I'm so glad I found your channel. SMA is amazing and I love the collab. The subtle jokes here and there crack me up. And I've been craving this content ever since Real Tool Reviews disappeared. RIP.
You had me at ugga dugga
He had me at beans lol
New units of measure - ugga duggas and beans :)
@@emilschw8924 and don't forget: how many boys does it bring to the yard
Man Astro, err I mean "unknown manufacturer" is really serious about their impact game. Dang thing has survived Eric for a year and still takes the podium. Impressive.
I thought it had an Astro look to it. 😂
I thought the same. My snap on was down by at least 25% after a year and it gets no/limited water and oil daily. I hope they actually bring this to market.
@@bobcobb7719 An air impact can lose 25% of its capabilities in a years time? When oiled properly? That’s crazy. I didn’t know they could wear so quickly. Perhaps we could ask this channel to do some testing of well used impacts to see the losses over time. And... what percentage could be gained back by doing simple at home rebuild. Would be interesting to see testing on those topics. 🤔
I'm a Chicago Pneumatic kind of guy myself
Yeah I'm impressed myself. But I'm not surprised because I am pretty gentle on my tools I water errr I mean oil them daily 💦
Best episode so far. Has to be. Can't get more garage cred than Eric O.. I like how you revealed the troll about the air fittings at the end. I'm sure someone here will attack you because they didn't watch to the end. Nice job TTC. Like your rattle gun ratings, you just keep getting better.
Hey thanks, we really appreciate it!
It’s awesome to see your channel growing so quickly. There are a lot of comments now. Hope the subscriber, and view count, keep shooting upwards! 🙏
I remember seeing that thing in some of Eric O's videos, I'm surprised he let it out of his sight for this test with how much he needs it in the shop!
We love SMA. Eric O may not baby his tools with kit gloves but he always puts them back in their home. Very organized drawers over there. Lol
Finally TTC listened that we want see different airlines and fittings affecting the power output! Yay!
God damn how do you not have at least 100k subs. Great channel! I'm sure you'll be able to expand your tests to things other than impact wrenches.
That thing has some big beans no doubt. Can't wait to see how bigger airlines and fittings compare. Also, a comparison between different "high flow" fittings from various manufacturers would be interesting.
Why was i waiting for the "there's your problem lady, ya ain't got enough nitro in the line"?
So now we know officially, what we knew all along: Eric O has the best tools!
Or in other words - if you want a job doing right... Take it to SMA!
If this channels down with Eric O. Im down with this channel. Now why dont u head down to that comment section, leave ur comments, criticism, and while ur down there subscribe, ring that that bell! Find us on our socials, facebook, the insty and remember viewers, if i can do, u can do. Thanks for watchin
Can i just say...that "thanks for watchin" genuinely makes me feel like he appreciates i watched
Flawless execution
I have been using the Chicago Pneumatic CPTCP7732C since it came out and it has never let me down. Big fan of their newest air tools. This impact doesn't look like a CP, but it peaks my interest to see any final product.
This was a fantastic video and love the collab. Subscribed for future content.
SMA gun is a beast I need me one.
Wow. Eric has been harboring a beast of an air gun. What else does he have hidden away in that shop? Lol 🤔
🙊🙉🙈
Probably like 200 test lights haha.
Nice. Now if only a way to test the air hammer Big Nasty.
Why bring Big Nasty when I have THOR!
Now hang on, let's not break the test rig before it's built.
Seat on the throne! Eric O. Should be proud.
Sweet! A new vid. Hope this one has moving graphs. Lol. Thanks for another vid! 🙏
SMA is the best! Congratulations Dr. Eric!
There's your problem Lady! Go Eric!! Great testing!
A good mechanic always have a couple of tricks up his sleeve... and a couple of good tools as well.
WTG Eric O & TTC!
Looking forward to the next.
Sounds awesome about different set vid. Gotta feed em well if you want them to preform. Great video
I'm a retired HDR/W Mechanic, I used CP my whole working time. For the price of I R I never found it to be any better.
now, these other air wrenches weren't around when I was busting nuts.
I need that. Tried to change front hubs on my WJ, the breaker bar disintegrated trying to undo the 36mm axle nut.
hunting the model number on the top of the tool " 2020006 " comes back with air hammer tools and massive air tools like the M634 but from the break down part of the video i did see the shaft and i found a shaft here that looks very very similar to the one in this tool you are using --> Ingersoll Rand Tune Up Kit for I-R 290 Series Impact Wrench, Part # 290-TK2 ( 8143 )
It's about time theres an impact wrench channel! Great work guys! Is there any plans for hot rodding impact wrenches in the future?
I would be interested in seeing the power level difference between the IR 2235 with quiet technology vs the 2235 without it.
When are you guys going to test Milwaukee's big boy 1inch m18 impact wrench ?
Brilliant video. Great channel.
We'll probably move this one off this list once we need to make space in the top 10 given all of the question marks. But we like where it landed for now!
That's okay I still know in my heart it's the best no matter what the chart says 🙂
Y’all need to be nice cause he has over 500k in subs 🧐
It should stay on the list.
@@SouthMainAuto love your channel! Long time lurker here
Since thor just came out are you going to test a production version against the prototype?
As soon as Eric-o posted about the onyx stubby impact the price shot thru the roof on amazon from 90 something to 160 something . great advertising.
They just run out of stock sometimes and it shoots up for a bit from other sellers, it's like $98 right now
Great video can't wait till this impact is avaliable
Been using the aircat 1150 killer
For about 3 years now held up well never been rebuilt just taken apart and cleaned. lots of water in my shops lines only problem I get us the selector at the back seizes up and you have to use penatrationg fluid and work it to make it work again
But I will probably get this impact instead of buying the rebuild kit
Aircat Nitrocat
Aircat all the way. For price and accessibility to parts hands down can't be beat. Had my 1150 since release, torn it apart yearly to clean and changed grease. Runs like the day I got it looks like garbage.
Maintaining constant pressure at the impact should be part of the testing. It should be measured along with flow for accurate test results.
Awesome content!!!
Keep at it boiiyyyy!!!!
💪💪👍👍
we have a massive gun for farm equiment, 3/4 to 1" drive. it takes both hands and you sling it from the hip, as it weighs in the neighborhood of 30lbs. we use it for doing bolts on farm equipment and our semi, it would be interesting to see some comparisons on these massive beasts
Can you do a video about holding the socket to turn while impacting I'm curious to know the difference
I love how for this episode the graph has been changed to beans
Love your videos, thank you!
Awesome video. I would love to see how my Metabo 36v compares especially to the Milwaukee.
I can't wait till this impact wrench is available. I neeeeeed to buy some more beans 'cause my current wrench is running out of ugga duggas.
Do you plan on testing any of M7/Mighty sevens impacts? They have quite bold torque claims and their pricing is competetive.
I wonder how the Snap on PT850 impact wrench will stack up against the others. I know it won't be on top, just curious.
I'd love to see Rigid's high torque 1/2" impact on here. They have it advertised at 1,500 ft. lbs. Please make sure to test it with their Octane battery.
We gotchu :) instagram.com/p/CLcAPemjWeb/?
@@TorqueTestChannel Oh, nice! Can't wait to see the video.
Since mystery company doesn't have a full size 1/2 impact, this is the logical next step. The proportion of this gun is similar to MAC 990501. More companies need to go this route. Same weight carried on a longer arm will give you more torque. Torque=Force X Distance. Stubbier guns also get in more places around today's vehicles.
I love this video. Yes, I am invincible.
Eric O shows no mercy
Love your vids! Is there any possibility you could do a comparison between normal impact sockets and weighted impact sockets?
There aren't currently any weighted sockets that are 38mm or 1.5" to fit this dyno, and making one custom would be a big "your mileage may vary" sort of scenario we feel.
I went to Astro Pnuematic’s website just out of curiosity to see if they had anything like this gun available and their site was completely down.
I just had to look. It's back up, but this tool does not exist. So, I think it really is the "Eric O. Special". Certainly looks like something in the "Onyx" line though.
Chocked full of beans!
In 30 plus years ive never had any problems with my 231ir it has bested snap on mac and matco a thank you
The IR231 C and H are nothing to scoff at, they just work no matter what!
Reliable just not very powerful
Would be cool to see how these stack up against some 3/4" impacts.
One would assume it be an Astro prototype .
I remember Chris at Astro saying around end of last year they concentrating on some more standard size impacts to update the range and add bit of modern engineering magic.
When I first saw this on SMA I thought it rear twist dial like on IR and I really hate those controls.
Know seen it in bit more detail it looks well thought out, forward and reverse super simple push through switch as you tend be using that a lot and handy in position right at trigger plus can be used one handed and either hand .
Power setting is simple twist at bottom grip right inline with air fitting and simply variable restriction but simple design and likely helps power through allowing better internal air routing options perhaps .
Astro do seem put in lot of effort on motor feed and exhaust design ...
Looks a good effort yet still sensibly proportioned to be very usable .
really delivers good whack of torque in first few seconds that going make it real nice use .
This one had solid detent stops on the power adjust, so could be variable adjust maybe, but definitely has settings/stops.
@@TorqueTestChannel how many detent positions it got ? would be infinite variable with no detents but hard set and easily moved accidentally I guess
I have a Rodac 606 and I wish I knew the specs on it. It was probably 20 years old when I got it, and it has lasted me nearly another 20
Need to test the Snap On and Ingersoll Rand (Both Ingersolls) Cool stuff.
Does anyone know what sma video was shown in this?
What the Heck !!! Eric O is the MAN
I always thought Astro Pneumatic just sent Eric another product they were working on. yet i dont see anything they make thats comparable. Atliest in USA.
But with the red gaskets its like a aircat nitro 1680 with different head, and trigger assembly? IDK
do u state the air pressure at tank and the pressure drop when going full beans? if so i didnt hear it
We test with 90psi dynamic, which means 90psi in the tool while running. The 3rd test is just 150psi static, the system drops to whatever it drops to, which fro this gun is a bit more than most. 120-122 psi or so after the air hose.
Wanting to know what type of brand impact it is
Please please please test a Snap On air & cordless. Would love to see how the most expensive guns stack up.
I don't think they are that mean. It will only make you cry.
Using Boris from goldeneye was a perfect analogy
Just here for the beans.
The real mvp here is every bolt he used that gun on. God damn.
Would love for u guys to test of stubby air impact also
Any chance you guys could track down an IR Thunder Gun from nascar?
This is great!
why show the ingersoll impact and not have a comparison to it from that mystery "Craftsman" impact
Kind of reminds me of my IR 2131A but the adjuster is in the wrong spot.
Love ur videos could u do a Milwaukee 2767-20 vs the dewalt Xr impacts
Yes!
Thanks that would be one bad ass video
Have you tried the vevor 1/2 impact
I wonder how the Harbor Freight Extreme Torque Impact Wrench would do against these. I bought one to remove 1-5/16" nuts from hydraulic cylinders, and it worked like a charm.
9:49 you can see its power runs on the rank chart there. Just the green one instead of the silver/gray
Always know if 3/8 Adapter cross over 1/2 airline. It brings more torque out impact
to be honets it looks like the Tang woo gun Princess auto use to sell and was also used by craftsman and was rated at 1800nm .....I had one like it long ago like 2000 2002 ish long gone now as iam milwaukee
Give er the beans, it can take it!
I want to see how the most powerful 3/4” gun compares
Eric should try my shop air, 34 cfm 200 psi, 1/2 hose
I use Ingersoll Rand best one I ever used!
The video you compare airlines and fittings - this could debunk a lot of theories out there and even a certain company advertising based on theoretics and no testing.
It depends on compress air tank volume
Have you tested the ir 2235ti max? Would love to see that one, it's my daily.
It's on the way!
Is there a universal conversion for Ugga Duggas to Beans?
Eric O you are now famous
Jeepers. What a monster of a tool.
I would like to point out as stated but I dont feel enough was said . Sma's is a year old under heavy use and abuse the others are spanken new and in beat working shape they will ever be .
Gotta say sma sent me here looks like interesting content
I see Eric takes as great of care of his air tool as l ,water injection is like nitros for air tools
Liquid cooling 😂
Can you test the IR titanium 1/2" and see where that stacks up? Mine is over 15 years old and still going strong! Also why does water slow down an impact and die grinder but speed up an air ratchet?
Which Titanium do you have?
@@TorqueTestChannel i think it's the 2135 TI. all of the stickers and markings have worn off from 1.5 decades of daily use lol. I will look closely at it tomorrow and see if I can tell.
We'll add it to the list and try to get you some data!
Watching Eric's use of that thing has resulted in multiple "Holy F---"'s at what it was able to do. It'll pay for itself in labor time and effort with only a few good jobs.
Take my money!🥰
Great, now Eric O can advertise he uses the best air tool in NY. 😂
I love my 231.
