You are banging on about everything in this video except for the hippie movement of the 60s. You should go deeper on that one, son. The history we are taught about the movement is romanticized propaganda via media and educational institutions. The hippie movement was small but force-fed to the public in order to manipulate the social-mind of a nation. Peace, love, sexual liberation, female equality, etc. was all to shape the culture politically and economically.

This cannot be more accurate. This is exactly the problem with modern-era "punk" being filled to the brim with the worst kinds of people ever. Brendon Urie is the perfect example of what *isn't* punk. Green Day, on the other hand, represents punk. So does Muse. Any time pop culture grips onto something "edgy" and "not conventional" by whatever standards we live in, they butcher the meaning of what those movements were about in the first place.
Nobody is a hippie for dressing in boho chic clothing and smoking weed. Nobody is a hippie for using cultures as a cute little "trend" (aka appropriation). Nobody is a hippie for shopping at SHEIN, Temu, Wish, and Amazon. It's the same way nobody is punk for ripping a hole in their pants and slapping a guitar. Punk is about being anti-Republican, period.
Anyway, thank you for also mentioning the bit about white sage. I've never used it, but I also never knew it was a cultural thing. I'll be sure to mention that to any white kids who use it for their "sanctuary" lol.

Boho chic also steals from Romani culture. Since the term “Bohemian” comes from the French term “Bohème”, which was what they referred to Romani people as. The “bohemians” were non-Romani people that liked the free, nomadic lifestyle and aesthetics of the Romani people but were also actively discriminating against them at the same time. It was a rugged place, so most Bohemians were capable people who knew how to live rough. Self reliant, like. So when people in Europe had a carefree life style, somewhat poor, given to music, people referred to them as Bohemians, meaning they didn't need anybody. The reason Bohemia and Romani are thought of together so often, is because Bohemia was the first country to outlaw slavery, which Romani people REALLY suffered from some terrible laws making them slaves in some countries just for existing. So, a lot of Romani went to live in Bohemia. A lot of Bohemians are part Romani. My son is Bohemian, and his grand dad's family came to the US as indentured laborers to work in construction, it was just said a "miscellaneous group of Bohemians and Gypsies" on his paperwork, so nobody is really sure which. But I think the attitude is somewhat genetic, because everyone in that family can do literally anything in life, they're all musicians, and you aint gonna beat any of them in a business deal.

Depending on who you ask, my parents were hippies. They made their own clothes, they quit their jobs and lived the van life traveling the U.S. in the late 70s & early 80s. I spent the first 3 years of my life as a nomad...and my parents didn't get me a social security card till i was almost 1. Not sure if they hadn't decided on a name yet...or if mom was legitimately considering not registering me with the government. 😂 She did regularly joke that was debating about getting me 2 different numbers so that i would be prepared if i ever needed to change my name and disappear from my own life. 😂😂 In fact...if mom hadn't been diagnosed with M.S. they had plans to move us to the middle of nowhere and homestead.
Being a hippie used to be a lifestyle, an entire mindset not just a fashion statement and the "meme style mantra" they were boiled down to of Peace, Love, & Drugs.

As an African-American(and I’m not speaking for everyone) my problem isn’t people wearing dreads, it’s people wearing them without the proper understanding of WHY we wear those hairstyles. A lot of black hairstyles are meant to protect the hair, since it's dry, brittle, and doesn't do too well in extreme temperatures, we wear those hairstyles to protect the hair.(Of course, there's also the slavery aspect of why hairstyles like cornrows exist but I'm not going to touch on that.) And then there's the main issue of people wearing dreads and other non-white hairstyles because its 'so spiritual and non-american/european' i guess. honestly, I'm not sure how to explain my thoughts but overall, i wished people like these 'hippies' would stop using dreads like this. it just gives off the vibe that you're wearing them because its exotic more than anything else to me.

Slavic people also have their stories about extraterestial myths. Its not racist conspiratory theory. I And to take it like this well I think it is personal opinion. Like I dont even care what this chick is wearing, saying she can throw 6 cultures at herself and I wont even bother. Cultures are constantly changing because we as people constanly changing, evolving. Some cultures die up some are created. If someone want to immerse hisself in a different culture because he find it intresting than go ahead. I wont gatekeep any cultures for anybody because I have no right to. Its like saying if someone is black they cant wear kimono... its stupid. In Japan we love to share our culture with others, if you want to wear kimono go for it. And in America I think this whole cultural approprearion was created so people would fight with each other more. So people would not enjoy other cultures but stayed at their own lain, scared. Its so stupid to the people outside you know? If you are black, blue, yellow, red or alien please enjoy kimono, enjoy whatever culture you like.

It's like saying that I, as a rich person, want to immerse myself in the struggles of the working class so I'm going to eat McDonalds once a day for a month. Saying it's like wearing a kimono is removing the context because every culture has things they don't mind sharing. I'm sure Japan has specific cultural items that aren't meant for tourists to just use freely, that hold value to them. People aren't getting pushback for wearing the things other culture's are happy to wear, they are getting push back for the things that they are taking that aren't meant for cosplay or fun and then reducing to "well I wore a kimono so I'm Japanese now and understand the Japanese struggles" without actually bothering to learn anything about Japan or it's people (kimono being just an example here).

There were a time that turkish empire were killing white people. Like millions. Now in Africa black people are fighting with each other, like there is bloodbath. Iran and Irak the same race. So we are clearly as humanity cannot live in peace. Which is sad. We have bigger problems than someone wanting to just wear braids, kimono or do a make up in certain way. And how we suppose to measure if he respects the culture enough? If knowing the history is enough? How much history 100 years, 1000 years? Where is the line? Where is this invisible line that will make a person legit for wearing something. Its just your personal opinion and judgment. But insted you constanty fighting with each other over silly things. You are a proof that integration simply cannot happen. Because if only people of other races start to takee thing from other races even as beautifull as clothes you are like stop it, its racist. Sorry but from outsiders its just stupid and silly, and a prove how closed minded on purpose you are. What we need to understand that the wars are possible only because we are willing to hate each other to the point that we are willing to kill each other. We hate each other because a propaganda we will to accept. The propaganda mostly comes from the top, the rulling class, the rulling class controles the media that keep spreading propaganda. We should just focus on buiding better word togheter focusing on important things. And if someone choose to wear specific make up, outfit and so on is like the less important thing to hate on. It used to just be people, like punks, who didnt have a lot of money but like didnt care. A lot of not participating in capitalism as much as possible.
But Coachella has made it about the money.
Its hollow, thats why they attach to whatever conspiracies to fill that part where their beliefs would go if they had any.

im realizing that nowadays, being a youth myself, new youths are abandoning the "culture" in subculture and just keep the aesthetics, which is such a bummer that people are becoming this shallow that people adapt subcultures for glamour without respecting the politics and morals attached to them 😕 this, (in my opinion) in turn, shows these people have no self-respect to even care about having their OWN ideologies!
this is especially the case for alternative subcultures such as punks, hippies, goths- especially in the country i live in, i've been part of the local alt community long enough to see how the "goth"/"alt" people absolutely have no values or are even directly doing things AGAINST the alternative mind!!! i see so many of them doing shein hauls or being so consumerist, like that ISNT WHAT BEING ALT IS ABOUT! to be alternative isn't just about having alternative outfits from the average person, but it's about having ALTERNATIVE VALUES that go against the harmful hive mind that many others have

while I disagree with most of this I do have to say, as a 34 year old who works with senior citizens, 28 is not too old to be experimenting with drugs (like, not at all...) and just because you're a parent doesn't mean you stop being a person. Lots of parents in their 20s, 30s, 40s are doing drugs safely (for example, doing less intensive stuff (where they can still be coherent and with it if the kid wakes up) when the kid is asleep or, if they're really going all in, when they have a babysitter for the night). That said, it is inappropriate to be talking about it when the kid is there. But when they're gone - trust me - at least some of your parents (and even your grandparents, maybe even your great parents) are getting high as a kite (and so long as they did it in a way that it never impacted you, all power to them).
That said, if she's 28 and doesn't know how to rap better there is no hope...

There are accounts of Celts wearing their hair in locs (though they vary from a black person’s locs as the hair type differs) and I really don’t think that white people shouldn’t wear locs. If they’re respectful, it shouldn’t matter. Dozens and dozens of similar hairstyles have shown up all throughout history in all different places and it’s just bizarre to get offended by how someone else styles their hair. I understand why some people view it as an issue, but it seems only POC from American truly get offended by it

So locs have been worn by every race so they dont exactly belong to anyone. The indians are the earliest people to be discovered wearing locs as a style. It had a pretty big impact on hinduism which is the oldest known religion.
Tbh locs have made an impact on most race's culture. Even european culture.
So anyone CAN wear them. Though when you wear a hairstyle that has such a significant importance to so many people's culture. An importance that spans 5000+ years, you dont just stick clip ons in your hair and try to assimilate.
It's majorly disrespectful and they should feel ashamed of themselves. For not only disrespecting hippie culture but also disrespecting the history of locs.
I know most people are upset because they think that this hairstyle belongs to black people but thats because they don't know the history.
Which is understandable, because after this hairstyle became equated with black people it became ostracized.
So let me end my historical yapping and end off with, yes you as an asian can wear locs but the clip ons that these women are wearing are majorly disrespectful and unless you have a hairloss issue, it should be done naturally because then it's kind of just distasteful and disrespectful to the history of the hair style.

Yeah exactly! Real hippies take action. It's cool and all to not consume things that are really harmful to others and especially where the harm can't be avoided, but not if you are, for example, a rich person who only crowns themselves with driving a electric car but has a giant house. Those people act like they care about something, but in reality just do what is easy for them and coicadentally also good for others in a way, but they don't actually care (well, often times).
Not everybody has time to take action in something and that is fine! You can still avoid doing harmful things and just maybe not take too much for yourself if not needed (like a giant mansion for yourself...). But if you really care and have strengt and time it is great to take action in something.
