Season 16, Episode 234.
A VERY, VERY RARE INTERVIEW.
There's something about Beauty and the Beast that's always captured me even as a child. There's certain kind of maturity in story and script. Realism in the characters and animation. The beauty in the songs. The kind of recipe Frozen, Moana, and those after just don't have.
What's wrong with Moana?
@@ChelseatheCreativeFox-pc2xz I didn't say anything was wrong with the movie. It's just Disney animated films (Post Tangled) aren't for adults anymore. They're missing that juiciness in their music and story.
@@miguelsonofzeus Well Tangled has some adult moments as it is a lighthearted animated musical that's loosely based on the original tale. And Moana was a good movie, too as it has some good humor, compelling story (minus the overprotective father cliche), likable characters (maybe Maui) and some cool songs. Like Tangled, it has some adult moments. Besides, Maui has a backstory told us how he was thrown into the sea by his parents as a FREAKING BABY! Maybe it wasn't mature enough, but at least there was something enjoyable on its own to make it into a fun family-friendly film.
@@ChelseatheCreativeFox-pc2xz In my comment I said "Post Tangled".
The recent Disney films are not as relatable and not likable. I'm sorry, but I disagree. The characters sound condescendingly cheesy are too hyper. It's not just the supporting characters, the leads behave like that. Adult men (30+) are portrayed as cowards or idiots. The music is very forgettable and isn't fulfilling. The only good thing about the new ones is the heroines are not sitting on their butts waiting for a man to save them.
Can I ask you something? To hell with it, I'll ask anyway. Why are you so protective of Moana? You're acting like I'm trashing the movie? Why, does my comment bother you? I'm not saying anything bad about it, I'm just saying they don't make them with the same "Disney magic". I'm old school I like my 2-D and the classic live-action Disney movies. It feels like Disney has changed from something for everyone to just for kids. To the point where the characters are childish and wacky. I liken them to Saturday morning cartoons or Playhouse Disney. New Disney can't be taken seriously because of that.
@@miguelsonofzeus I'm being honest about it and I do like Moana because she's cute, funny, and strong. I think you don't like Maui because he's potrayed just the way you described some men in some movies nowadays, but I don't know about men in some Disney films. And I think music is really great (I don't know about Shiny lol). No film is perfect. If they're good, they're good. If they're not great, they're not great. If they're a masterpiece, then nobody can see anything bad in them as they'll just hail them as some of the greatest accomplishments in ciemnatic history, like the Prince of Eygpt.
"It's incredible. And, I want to point out to you that it's not just for kids this time. That people have walked into screenings and it's actually been more adults than kids. It's been phenomenal that it's really crossed over that way."
When will we get to a point in society where that statement doesn't have to be made?
only time will tell
I love how throughout the interview Alan Menken is just not having *any* of Gibson's nonsense, haha...
what do you mean
Oh, I just meant that it seems like any time that Gibson says something that belittles or pigeonholes the artistic side of Disney production Menken corrects him.
oh ok
It was so weird to hear them say Beauty and the Beast is a new movie.
Rest in Peace, Howard Ashman. 😭😭😭
I love beauty and the best great movie and musical
Jacob Keppler Me 2
i miss the 90s so much.
Damn, Charles Gibson was.....young back then
Red Card wow right
Awesome interview! Besides, I think Menken is handsome in here 4:14
Yeah, right. Maybe the most good-looking composer of his generation. Who's with me?
I think Charles Gibson has a point in that the music in the earlier Disney movies such as Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, etc was not as central. I agree. They didn’t feel like actual musicals. They were just movies with songs in them. Disney movies were always known for having songs but it wasn’t until The Little Mermaid that Disney animated movies were musicals at least IMO. Correct me if I’m wrong.
This is 25 years old
Yeah, right. I remember when I was young, I watch that with my parents and siblings. Ah, the 90s, if only I can bring the good old times again.
I hope!
Too bad Belle doesn't get a solo for Paige to belt out at events and things (all of her songs are duets or ensemble pieces). She always has to either do the title song (which she doesn't sing in the movie) or a weird melange of a bunch of different songs from the movie.
That themesong was the best
By Jove ! Alan Menken looks like The Walking Dead's character named Eugene Porter...
6:56-9:09
Cant wait to hear emma watson sing this
+Checker_guy Actually she would not sing this song, because it's sung by the teapot. She will, probably (I can be wrong though) Boujour, madame gaston, something sweet
I knoe
Alan is awful at singing.
100 percent agree with you, however if you listen closely you may notice he had kinda a hoarse voice when he was speaking. However, generally his speaking voice is normal and for singing, sure he's not a good singer but one song that he sang a duet with the late and great Laurie Beechman in the 90s, his voice sound pretty good in m opinion.
Here's the link for people who like to listen to the duet:
