  • I came across the software to isolate music from vocals about halfway through my Robert Johnson challenge ( • Robert Johnson Challenge ) and it has helped me to learn the songs. This is one of the tracks, but I'll make the others available to download here tom-muck.com/music/robertjohns...

I know, if only we could go back in time. He would be the first one I would want to see.

Legend has it that he didn’t let folk get good gander whilst he actually played, would turn his back to most anyone

This is great, thanks! I've never even attempted to learn this, partly because it would have been so difficult to learn by ear from the full recording.

The recordings aren’t the right speed, they’re either sped up or the equipment used to record them wasn’t calibrated correctly.

It's sad that's all people can say about him. Lonnie Johnson, Skip James, Memphis Minnie and other delta blues players are just as good as Robert Johnson. I don't even think he sold his soul to the devil I believe he just practiced.

People fabricated that myth. The song is about the sundown laws in the south about 100 years ago. Black people could not be out after sundown or they were breaking the law which meant they were fair game to the white cops or vigilantes. Robert was trying to find a ride home while the sun was going down. he didn’t find a ride and ended up sleeping in a ditch overnight.
