Karen you have the most interesting guests! Wow!! Thank you.
Good to see and hear Michael Twitty, partner in my family project Muloma Heritage center.
There is a long history of Jews and Muslims of African descent in the Americas. One grandparent "Creole" from Cane River and the other Gullah/Geechee from Charleston on my mother's side. I have both Ashkenazi and Sephardic DNA which I guess is not surprising but the Ashkenazi showed up on my South Carolinian side! Thank you once again Professor Hunter for a thought provoking conversation. I wonder what Mr Twitty thinks of the Shalom Y'all food festival held in Savannah, GA in October.
I too have deep roots in Charleston SC and neighboring towns around it.
@@slimtrain We may be related! I had to edit my above comment because I left out a whole sentence! So yes, the Cardozo's were Sephardic Jews. One of the men had children with an enslved woman of African descent. Paul Robeson descends from that family. Two of the oldest temples in the country were built in Charleston and Savannah.
I just learned today, that in the South Carolina charter it specifically offers a safe haven to Jews, heathens and dissidents.
I appreciate you Karen for introducing people to Michael Twitty. I've been familiar with him and following his work on the educating people on the enslaved Africans and the food traditions they brought with them to the Americas, but this opened me up to another level of this brother. 🙏🏿🙏🏿
I've got to admit my mind went in a very narrow minded direction when I saw the title of this. I love this brother. Powerful segment, and I thank you for opening my brain.
OMG I felt so BLESSED listening to this guest. He's someone the WORLD needs to hear..Please Please bring him back. 🙏🏿. Maybe an In class with Carr Guest.🤷🏿♂️🤞🏿
He is so spot on with everything he discussed from a cultural standpoint. I love love him! ❤
You will enjoy this too 😁💙🙏 czcams.com/video/TeYKFY9c87Y/video.html
Congrats on the new book and thank you for the memory making on the previous book you wrote!
I can’t wait to buy is books. Wonderful guest. Food for the soul! ❤️❤️❤️
Amazing how complex and diverse Africans and decendants of African people are. We are all one but not the same. Amazing! Thanks Sis Hunter for your amazing interviews/Lessons. One 🖤
As a Black Orthodox Jew, I have a great deal of respect for this man, Nissim Black (the Black Haredi rapper), and Yavilah McCoy (founder of Ayeka, a nonprofit organization providing educational resources for Jewish Diversity and advocacy for Jews of Color in the United States). They are forces in our community (those born into and who converted). In my view the best answer to the theology questions is the teachings of Rabbi Tovia Singer. This program was inspiring, informative, and enlightening. The views expressed on spirituality by host, cohost, and guest were so beneficial to my spirit that I can't express it. Thank you ever so much for having him on and hopefully he will be followed by Nissim and Yavilah.
There are tons of black Jews in the US and tons in Israel,
So cool to see Michael Twitty (love him) on your show-
Also so often people who "convert' to Judaism find out that they have Jewish DNA which is why they have that connection feeling
I have been waiting for you to invite him on for years😁.
Whew that just blew me away.. That brother is pretty damn amazing as we all are when we’re not scared
to get out of the box. Ancestors have done the work...
I'm so happy that you Professor Hunter highlighted a piece of his wisdom when he said "the human being came to seek a name and nothing more." 🇬🇭 Ghanaian
Please watch this wisdom
Great topic enjoyed how he compare food and religion was awesome.
Yea totally Agree with Brother Michael 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
This a very interesting brotha and I love his perspective of faith. His inclusiveness reminds me of an experience I had with my 5th grade teacher in the mid 80s. Where he had a day where each student told of their religion and brought a food our different cultures. We had an oddly diverse class for a south east Texas elementary that made it work out so well. This teacher Mr Poulson would never be able to do a class like that today without getting kicked off his job. That being said Im 45 and out of all the classes and days of instruction I have had I remember that day like yesterday. I truly made me so inclusive and open minded when it came to religion and culture.
Thank you
Awesome segment. Have enjoyed him on a few Specials recently. What a great Knubian this Brotha is.
Karen the G.O.A.T does it again. Building takes The Best Materials, this is who Africans are to each other. Let the Church say "Amen"
He is amazing!
Men like this need to. Be on the public and educational speaking lecture circuit. These are freethinkers and leaders our black youth needs to hear from

One of my distant relatives had a Jewish background His name was Francis Lewis Cardoza. He was born in Charleston SC and served in government during reconstruction.
My African ancestors were owned by my Jewish ancestors, who owned Ossabow Island, offshore of Savannah, GA. They were also active in land grant legislation after the Civil War. A branch of the family that stayed in Europe were Zionist Nazis during WWII. One served as Hitler's physician.
I love him!!!
You will love these men too 😁💙🙏 czcams.com/video/TeYKFY9c87Y/video.html

So... All this 'religion' labeling is nonsense???? God, the Creator is! That's all there is! I am grateful for that knowledge!
This video will help you 😁💙🙏 czcams.com/video/TeYKFY9c87Y/video.html
We are not jew-ish, we are Hebrew Israelites from the tribe of Judah. Look up the suffix ish, also, look up the word semitic, as in anti-semitic, as part of the meaning, the word afro is there.
I believe according to the Bible as black people we can be identified as being part of the Israelites only by Abraham's blessing and our faith in Jesus Christ and our faith as a born again believer actively living in God's righteousness is so much MORE important than anything else because everything here on earth will pass away and we shall stand before God one day to be judged by Him regardless of one's race, creed, and tribe!
Cultural religion versus religious practice. Interesting dichotomy.
If we were Muslim, Christian, all of the other spiritualities coming into what they call America, yeah, Jewish too, yeah
Did he say we eat our oppression lol smh

Jesus was NOT black. Jesus was a Jewish, he was an Israelite.
there was no such thing as Jewish 2000 years ago. Jesus was Hebrew and an Israelite...and spent how many years studying in Egypt/Nubia...and there was no distinction made of how he looked versus those Africans. amen (Jewish, Christian or African)?
@@KarenHunterShow What are you an ignoramus or something? Black people are Africans. Jews, Hebrews, Israelites are a culture, an ethnicity. They are a race of people that black people are not.
Stop attempting to culturally appropriate other peoples cultures and identities as if they are your own. It's disgusting and it's antisemitic.
And in response to your ridiculous claim that "there was no such thing as Jewish 2000 years ago." I would suggest you read the Bible and educate yourself.
Getting black Israelite vibes some yukub nonsense some historical revisionist we was kangs vibes
WOW Jesus was black XD XD u sure about that
