Only strong men smile after defeat and tell where they went wrong
Im suprised how strong hikaru is mentaly after his defeat.
Unless chess speaks for itself
hikaru never loses his recap makes him enough money 😊
🤓🤓🤓
I think Hikaru has grown a lot not only as a player but as a person. This man knows how capable he is and most important how good he can play the game of chess. I hope he has he's comeback. Lesgooooo
Humble. Excellent display of character and emotional well being.
@Ekrem_Imaro weird, Magnus just wins 😆
very humble saying he wasnt there, his calc was bad today for no reason and other excuses...
@@lostblue5651He's right though. He considered Qe4, the best human move, but instead retreated his bishop and practically lost on the spot. (No reason to doubt this either, as he didn't even mention f3, the top computer move.) And even then he didn't realize how bad his position was. So bad choices and bad awareness of his positional strength.
What do you want him to say, that he's not a very good chess player and will undoubtedly continue to lose?
Humble? It is his sheer arrogance that makes him believe he can be competitive while treating candidates as "just content". Hikaru is many things but humble is not one of them.
@@thebiglebrowski3695 I don't know Hikaru any farther than the person he puts forward online. There are many examples online of him admitting he knows he's not the best, that he isn't as concerned about being competitive as he used to be, and the dude just posted his own loss for 2.2M subscribers. And you think one of the objectively best players in the world is arrogant for thinking he's competitive? Ok.
"I'm doing my best to set up the pieces during the game, so I don't have to waste time afterwards doing it"
Bravo!
Cmon hikaru we win these!
I laughed out loud 😂
It's Finegold's joke...
@@jmaycockme too
Frankly, ridiculous!
Your humility in defeat and being able to critique yourself harshly while enjoying it all the same is inspiring sir. Majority of people would be like "That MF just got lucky." The fact you gave props to your opponent first and foremost is admirable. You are a beast and you will bounce back next round. Go get em
Great content!
lol what? every top level GM always act with real class, which is not what hikaru showed here... saying he wasnt there, his calc was bad today for no reason and other excuses are not admirable
@@lostblue5651those r not excuses, but critique. Although I agree that most top gm critique themselves very well and are pretty objective in defeat. Must be a necessary thing to reach the top levels in chess.
@@lostblue5651 stupid?
@@lostblue5651which is likely to be true? What else do you want him to say? That he’s a bad chess player?
Ngl i didnt expect you to record a video after such a tough game. Big props for still providing the content 🙌
@JerjisChessChannel Magnus would have never lost to Vidit, especially in classical.

@raymondsublett3108 what does Magnus have to do with the comment you replied to?
he's pretty consistent about posting after losses. He did it last candidates too
@@utetennisfan5458yeah 👍
Bro will pull up like Messi at the 2022 world cup
Argentina was also on a very long streak of no losses
Hopefully Hikaru gets a rigged candidates win like Argentina did with the most penalties in WC history

I'm not the biggest fan of Hikaru, but I said this last Candidates and I say again. This is by far the best chess content of all time. Imagine one of the best players (one of the favorites) from the time of Fischer, Karpov, Kasparov, etc, making a step by step recap of the games they played, saying all what was going in his mind at the board.
I don't think this has ever happened in any sport.
Thanks, Hikaru. And good luck on the rest of the tournament.
I was thinking the same thing. People will find these videos decades from now. Quite amazing.
Hikaru is nowhere close to Fischer and Kasparov though.
@@culguyrox Sure he is. It's hard to compare him to Fischer, because that's a different era, but compare him to the current highest-rated player (Carlsen). He's pretty close to him in terms of rating.
Stop waffling his nuts
@@Unknown-jt1jo
Ratings don't tell the whole story. Do you know magnus and hikaru 1v1 score.
My man lost a crucial match yet has the guts to face defeat with humility and praise his opponent and accept and learn from his mistakes
I watched the game live and it was shameful how many Hikaru haters were in the chat just gloating and mocking him for losing... I don't know what is wrong with people or why they hate Hikaru so much, but it was very sad to see.
@@SPQR_14 Hikaru used to be a legitimately polarizing figure in chess. He was rather unpleasant, abrasive, etc. He's gotten better over time, but some people still remember his persona from a few years back.
True gentleman for a reason!
@@Unknown-jt1jo I've been following Hikaru for many years, I'm not sure what you are referring to honestly.
This was just a wake up call. Hikaru can win this!
Yeah this is only gonna kickstart Hikaru to beast mode
Let's goo Hikaru ❤
He was losing against Fabiano too and he got out because he managed to make him go into time trouble. This is the second wake up call, how many he needs?
But why was Fabiano in time trouble though? I think Hikarus approach with using the no increment rule worked out very well. Especially considering he played against white and one of the strongest players in the tournament.
@@tommytowerr two
Bro think he’s in the candidates or sumin 💀
15:03 "i'm doing my best to set up the board so that i dont have to waste time doing it after the game" 😂.
I don't know if i played a match at the highest level of a game and lost i'll be making jokes about it after an hour. This shows resiliency and will help one perform at their best level in the next game. Because its just impossible to not lose occasionally at something if you are gonna do it long enough to be great at. Managing losses is what separates the goats from the greats. Looking forward to the next matches 🔥🔥
"Played by many great players including myself" is the kind of flex I could only dream of having
hahahhaha
I prefer that than false modesty
Ikrr 😂
I don't think he necessarily intended to flex. I think he wanted to say something like "Played by many great players, and which I have also played."
He's fully aware that he's a great player, of course, but he usually doesn't come out and say it outright.
@@Unknown-jt1jo I'm just saying that I would like to be able to say it, not that he was flexing
We'll get back tomorrow for sure Hikaru. Good luck! 💪
This aged like milk
Your dedication to these recaps is just awesome.
I could never face a camera, let alone recording a video, after losing a game ,and about that same game.MAD RESPECT to you,Hikaru.
cry more
"Not trying to make excuses, but when I played F4 I simply didn't see Vidits next move"
-I have never heard "I didn't see it" used as an excuse in chess ever, only as a resigned answer to the question "why did/didn't you play "x"" in a postgame interview.
Great analysis!
Dear CZcams today’s game was unfortunate
The tournament is long Hikaru! I’m sure you’re gonna make it💪💪💪
For what it’s worth, Judit really enjoyed the Kf2 move.
Where is she commentating?
Thank you for an honest, insightful, and gracious recap. Good luck in the rest of the tournament!
Being able to do a recap after a loss, with white, in round 2 of the candidates just shows HUGE character and mental health. Congratulations, hikaru, you truly deserve it 👏👏👏👏
Yes CZcams is where you get mental health
You are very humble and I liked how you walked through how you were thinking since your first move....good luck for ur rest of tourny
This is actually brilliant.
Making these recaps after a loss helps not only to consolidate the learnings from the mistakes, but is quite therapeutic too.
Goodspeed, Hikaru 📈
it's crazy how deep these guys calculate. Hikaru is literally pointing all the moves Anand pointed in commentary.
I like Anand's commentary style because of his non-reliance on the engine lines. And being such an elite player himself with decades of experience, Anand is showing you the human aspect of what these players are probably actually thinking about instead of some optimal lines with no insight. Anand's commentary is great and his strength at this age is inspiring.
keep your head up and keep doing your thing brother
I love how the whole game summarizes to a very basic chess tip :
" *Always develop your minor pieces in opening* "😂
15:15 Hikaru calculated beyond the game lol 😂
Saying he deserved the win and you deserved the loss shows the kind of man you are! Win or lose stay humble.
Even your mistakes are legendary to me Mr champion ❤ Hikura Championura
Man he is so resilent! Coming back to your place and making a recap video after a devastating loss in the biggest tournament of the sport, commendable seems like a such a small word for this! As always super inspiring fellow, all the very best Hikaru!
Has to be good therapy for processing!
omg. you are awresome Hikaru. Shout out to you. So nicely you said "Good game" to Vidit after game and on top of that, you came for viewers and then gave us your thought process and helping us all with the analysis. Thanks a lot. Cheers. All the best for the rest of the tournament.
I love how Hikaru makes jokes after such tough loss. Hope you will recover and return stronger
Massive respect for still posting a recap after a tough game. You got this Hikaru ❤
Better to lose one game in a landslide than to narrowly lose a couple... still a long tournament to go and time to come back!
So sorry about your early loss; watching it live was gut-wrenching. I know you will bounce back with some spectacular performances to come!
Thank you very much for the honest recap. There are still many rounds to be played! Wishing you all the best for a prompt recovery, starting tomorrow!
Thank you for analyzing this tough game with such good spirits.

Really enjoyed your interview on Gotham Chess pre Candidates. I wish you well going forward. People would do well to watch how you carry yourself and emulate that.
Amazing how you still came and explained your thought process after such a tough game. Just amazing! Thankyou
Bro didn't even change his shirt, that's the level of his dedication
I’m super impressed and learning how to take a loss. Super impressed. Hikaru is dropping so many wisdom and a couple jokes too. ❤
Great Recap, Didn't expect him to record one after this game but great show of character. Lots of big wins to come in this tournament, Hikaru!
We admire you either in winning or losing! Thanks for this very illustrative video!
thanks for the video hikaru, you're a beast

Love the attitude Hikaru, props for the recap. Sending you comeback vibes.
Good recap, Hikaru and all the best, today and for the rest of the tournament! Big fan and love the fact that you recap all important games, regardless of the result. Great character and stuff of champions!
He prepped the bishop sacrifice move. It was very nice.

Such a humble recap. With wicked sense of humor (most of my pieces are in starting positions). Must have been hard to do. But you did it with the best sportsmanship. Kudos.

huge respect to hikaru. being able to come out practically unscaved from such a loss is hard to do, and im glad to see that youre still in good spirits :)
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and observations and allowing us all to benefit and learn. Many/most others would not find/make the time to do this. Good luck in your upcoming games
Hikaru you are absolute class, the way you handled this loss is exceptional. Candidates are a marathon and not a sprint, YOU GOT THIS HIKARU💯
Man your horsey just got high and wonderd off
Was completely shocked and lil heartbroken when i watched the round recap on Agad’s channel that Hikaru lost on white cuz I’m rooting hard for him. Still hopeful that our fav streamer could pull it off! You got this, Hikaru! A lot of people are rooting for you. ❤
Memorable that you made the recap!
Good luck!!!!
Your smile and turning up to analyze even after losing, gives me a lot of inspiration
Hikaru, did you forget your queen-side developement at home?
Indian here. Was startled when I saw this result- was thinking Vidit would squeese a dry draw or something esp considering history of Berlin Def. Props to you for handling loss well and streaming good content on it, good luck on remaining rounds.
Pre tourney I pegged you as favourite, and bet with my friend you will score 8.5/14 or more. I still think you will, good luck mate.
imo, the nerves will kick in for everyone eventually so i expect everyone to make a mistake as well later on. the question is whether hikaru's early mistake will help him, or whether hikaru will also make another mistake later. since it's still so early, this loss could be a good thing, a bad thing, or nothing much at all.
Anyway why you guys want any other country to win the candidates being an Indian
@@MRUNKNOWN-mw3of Because people are allowed to like other players depending on their styles. Country has nothing to with it, chess is no longer a patriotic sport as it was 3 decades ago, where it was an extension of geopolitics
So here I am, post Candidates. Hikaru did score 8.5/14 exactly, and ended in a 3 way tie.
Gukesh D from India won... To be fair I was, pre-tourney, thinking him and Pragg would be top half, Hikaru win, with Gukesh/Pragg/Fabi making top 4 in any order. Rest being close, and there being far more draws than results.
Nepo shocked me with his dominance for bulk of Candidates.
As an Indian and also a Gukesh fan, I am thrilled and hope he is the next World Champion, but I do feel for Hikaru.
This aside, the 2 Vs- Vidit and Vaishali in Women's- had a lot of matches that were non-draws and even their draws were cliffhangers, so Indians did their job being entertainers in Candidates 2024.
Vaishali R, now a GM, was insane, losing 4 and winning 5 in a row, in a 9 match no-draw streak to take tied 2nd !
I love the insights of you thoughts. Explains a lot. Wish you all the best, the rest of the tournament.
My brother I watched the match live, I felt that moment. Thank you for sticking it out as long as you did and still being your pleasant self. I'm still pulling for you to win!
insane game by vidit...
by Leela
Thats why Fischer Random is the future... This game was a perfect display of the begining of the end of classical chess... This prep was nasty
If this had been a draw results because of the Berlin opening, your comment wouldve at least made some sense. But to type this after such a decisive and exciting game, is just weird. If it was the end of classical chess, it wouldve been a draw.
