@@lostblue5651He's right though. He considered Qe4, the best human move, but instead retreated his bishop and practically lost on the spot. (No reason to doubt this either, as he didn't even mention f3, the top computer move.) And even then he didn't realize how bad his position was. So bad choices and bad awareness of his positional strength.
What do you want him to say, that he's not a very good chess player and will undoubtedly continue to lose?

@@thebiglebrowski3695 I don't know Hikaru any farther than the person he puts forward online. There are many examples online of him admitting he knows he's not the best, that he isn't as concerned about being competitive as he used to be, and the dude just posted his own loss for 2.2M subscribers. And you think one of the objectively best players in the world is arrogant for thinking he's competitive? Ok.

Indian here. Was startled when I saw this result- was thinking Vidit would squeese a dry draw or something esp considering history of Berlin Def. Props to you for handling loss well and streaming good content on it, good luck on remaining rounds.
Pre tourney I pegged you as favourite, and bet with my friend you will score 8.5/14 or more. I still think you will, good luck mate.

imo, the nerves will kick in for everyone eventually so i expect everyone to make a mistake as well later on. the question is whether hikaru's early mistake will help him, or whether hikaru will also make another mistake later. since it's still so early, this loss could be a good thing, a bad thing, or nothing much at all.

@@MRUNKNOWN-mw3of Because people are allowed to like other players depending on their styles. Country has nothing to with it, chess is no longer a patriotic sport as it was 3 decades ago, where it was an extension of geopolitics

So here I am, post Candidates. Hikaru did score 8.5/14 exactly, and ended in a 3 way tie.
Gukesh D from India won... To be fair I was, pre-tourney, thinking him and Pragg would be top half, Hikaru win, with Gukesh/Pragg/Fabi making top 4 in any order. Rest being close, and there being far more draws than results.
Nepo shocked me with his dominance for bulk of Candidates.
As an Indian and also a Gukesh fan, I am thrilled and hope he is the next World Champion, but I do feel for Hikaru.
This aside, the 2 Vs- Vidit and Vaishali in Women's- had a lot of matches that were non-draws and even their draws were cliffhangers, so Indians did their job being entertainers in Candidates 2024.
Vaishali R, now a GM, was insane, losing 4 and winning 5 in a row, in a 9 match no-draw streak to take tied 2nd !

If this had been a draw results because of the Berlin opening, your comment wouldve at least made some sense. But to type this after such a decisive and exciting game, is just weird. If it was the end of classical chess, it wouldve been a draw.
