Viggo Mortensen | 10 Questions | TIME
/ timemagazine
He is a modern renaissance man of the highest order: actor, musician, linguist, poet, author, painter, photographer, and he does all these things with impressive competency. A man for all ages and model human being.
jaranarm completely agreed!
The King of Gondor!
The perfect man... Human
I adored him as aragorn, king of gondor. But the more i found out about the real person behind him, the more i was just astonished of how about intelligent, soulfull, calm and skillfull this person is in every way of what he does. Hes really a special actor and human beeing. I dont wanna say hes a better person than other people, but hes just a personality who many can really learn a lot from. I really just enjoy to see him in of what hes doing. I enjoy that hes not a person for sale (hollywood e.g.) or doing roles he maybe would'nt fit in. Hes a person which stands behind everything of what he does, (sorry, german metapher, i dont know if thats existing in english) and that is just seldom in the world today. I wish the best for him and people like him and their art and i really cant say enough of how this person is a real-life aragorn for many human beeings.
Thank you viggo for beeing a real good idol, not just in actor ways.
He is not a linguist.
Viggo Mortensen is what Brad Pitt wishes he could be
I had the pleasure of meeting him, and he was so incredibly humble and just generally kind, I will always be a "fan" in the sense of supporting him and his work. When I first met him in person, it was at a public poetry reading, and in the after-mingle he focused on the person talking to him at the moment without looking for accolades or photo ops. He gave everyone attention. That is true class.
You can just tell Viggo is a great person. A role model by heart.
It's the result of the perfect balance between evil and good.
One of the most gorgeous guys in Hollywood.
yup!
Indeed😘
And he was almost 50 yrs old when this interview happened!
Indeed he is 🥰🥺💗💗
He's 49 here and he's so handsome!
to me this is the smoothest, most insightful, genuine and mello actor I've ever seen. Got bucket loads of talent but it never goes to his head. Just grateful for everything and everyone. Viggo's a guy everyone should model themselves after in my opinion; you just cant go wrong.
dean winchestette I like Viggo, but as someone starting out in the industry, there are other actors I admire much more who I actually think carry themselves better overall.
+sportsmed77 like who?
his voice literally makes my knees go weak
really? I think he sounds like an old fat geeky middle aged guy who wears glasses lol
Dario2622 well that's your interpretation.
Alice King Obviously, I'm the one who posted it.
Dario2622 we have a smart ass over here
Alice King yup ;)
Viggo is one of the nicest and most humble people I have ever met.
I really enjoy listening to this guy talk. He makes a lot of sense and he seems pretty down to earth for a guy who was in Lord of The Rings and became incredibly famous.
you should see eastern promises
Agree, he still does his best in each movie and remains grounded imo.
Antonio Johansson and The Indian Runner
Antonio Johansson and The Indian Runner
It's 2018, and he's still the most perfect guy
Dude does the interview in his socks... kudos.
Its normal in Europe. Having shoes inside the house is dirty.
American?
@@walangchahangyelingden8252 He's half Danish and has lived here, too. We don't wear shoes inside the house!
@@leanielsen9964 No, I mean the guy who commented this.
@@walangchahangyelingden8252 aaaah! sorry!
I met Viggo several years ago and he is naturally talented and personally humble
He truly seems like a genuine great person... I'm so glad there's people like him in Hollywood
windyeye I can confirm that he's an amazingly humble, kind-hearted guy. A couple of my sisters-in-law attended high school with him in Watertown, NY and have only wonderful things to say / stories to share about him. Oddly, I went to high school with Vincent Cassel in France about ten years later, and those two have collaborated on a few films together (Eastern Promises is the most well-known among them.) Anyway, Viggo never ceases to blow my mind with his seemingly endless artistic / linguistic talents *and* humility - he's definitely *not* a typical materialistic Hollywood narcissist, spends most of his current life in Spain (although he's recently devoted a lot of time to caring for his terminally ill father back in Watertown - the least pretentious, most modest little American city you could possibly imagine), and is truly one-of-a-kind. Ariadna Gil is the luckiest girl in the galaxy !
Viggo Mortensen is one of my all time favorite actors.
I really wish I could see him more in films, but it is understandable that he wants to do what he loves and it is much more than acting.
+Susiruhtinas He has made lots of movies, but those movies are not "blockbusters". To me they are, but that's just me :) .
Viggo is doing a lot of Spanish and Argentinian movies, brilliant actor non the less doesn't matter the language.
it's a pleasure to listen to someone that articulate ... he is a thousand times more handsome when he opens his mouth...calm, mellow, down to earth...his inner beauty makes him shine
Seems like a deep dude.
He is seriously my most favorite person. Every answer he gives is meaningful and honest. I love his stance on everyone being an artist in their own ways and how you never really lose that childlike nature that goes along with creating something beautiful. Love him.
As the King of Gondor, I don't always do interviews. But when I do, I go by the alias of "Viggo Mortensen"
What Viggo said about violence in film is very wise. Most action movies have scenes with countless casualties without a second thought and use dead bodies as a prop and gore as a gag; Eastern promises was very shocking in the violence department, but it was not taken lightly.
''Kids if they wanna draw they draw, if they wanna sing they sing, if they wanna pretend that their the lone ranger or Aragon or an elf or an monster they just do it, they wont think about it''- Viggo,
P.s I luv the Aragon part
So why did everybody give Michael Jackson a hard time when he talked of loving childhood and not growing up. Actually most really creative people need to maintain that strong link to childhood.
why are you quoting what is already said. adds nothing to the conversation.
@@fucheduck LOL why are u replying to a five year old comment 😭😭😭 besides WHO CARES I can’t believe you took your time to criticize a comment that’s so old LMFAOOO
It's AragoRn.😂😅
Viggo is the most handsome man in the world. He's simply irresistible, adorable, sweet and so smart!!!!!!!!
He is an great actor!!!!!!
I love him.
Viggo is the most chill guy in the world. Love him to pieces!
I really like his calmness and he is generally quite well put, both verbally and in his performances
One of the rare people in public who is inspiring. Really having other human being in mind. great attitude.
I m from Argentina, and a San Lorenzo supporter as he is. Viggo is an excelent actor and person, he also is very inteligent and he has a very big passion for San Lorenzo de Almagro our soccer team.
Now if we could just have more men like this in the world ... what a delight to hear him speak, watch him act and just be a pretty amazing man.
2:51 Who else _instantly_ thought of Tarantino's movies?
Viggo is a rock solid talent and an example to all humans. Work hard, stay humble and learn forever.
This is THE smoothest cat in Hollywood! A humble spirit is so difficult to come by! Being a complete polyglot who has absolutely no accent when he speaks in the languages that he does, he amazes me! I wish he gave an acting class in NY, because I'd be one of the first in line.
He is one of the few actors that I will listen to without thinking they are a self serving pratt. meaning, he is such a great actor that portraying humility and strong opinions at the same time is a cinch ...or, he really is that humble.
Well said.
What he says about being an artist is beautiful.
See Viggo in his early acting role in the movie The Indian Runner....Awesome...he can detach himself from himself and this movie proved it..
Everyone looked better in LotR. But it's not why people love Viggo. He's a cool person. Very kind. Very proffesional. He bought a horse to a crew/stunt person, Jane.
Why is he so perfect
listening to his interviews, you notice he's a really smart guy... and his acting is amazing!
As a Dane I am very proud of Viggo ... he's not only HOT but he's soo talented in so many ways. I love when he visit Denmark and the times we see an interview with him speaking Danish which he is very good at. I think it's cool he is half Danish.... and is true to his "other" country and family. He can actually visit Denmark without the press runing after him - pretty cool.
One ALWAYS KNOWS that a VIGGO MORTENSEN Movie will be OUTSTANDING! I love that Viggo is very picky about his movie script choices❤️
It is absolutely insance when you see him here and think he is the man who plays the intense roles of Aragorn and Everett Hitch. Genius actor. Truly underrated.
"they're all the same thing" so true.
The man is with socks at home, being interviewed. Respect!! 😁
"I worry about them...and sometimes I worry about myself." HILARIOUS!
Oh my God! This is probably the most beautiful I've seen Viggo in! (Aside from being Aragorn of course) He literally looks like a real life prince! Swoooooonnnn
God, he's beautiful... and his voice is like silk.... love me some Viggo!
Amen! he's the perfect man. his artistic side, love for creatures great ans small HES Calming voice it's so wonderful.
what a genuine individual and profound role model : not often do you learn new meaning from your childhood hero both on and off screen to such a level as viggo has done for me as I have grown . thank you for being you and thank you for inspiring all ages to be themselves and pursue passion and well being over slipping into categorized tunnels. to me , viggo’s beautiful portrayal of Tolkien’s aragorn echoes into his kind heartedness in real life; a character/ actor connection that I will always learn from and be thankful for; thank you viggo
He is sooo inspiring. And that is one of the best ways I have seen a defining description of art. He seems to be a great person.
I think he was talking about Quentin Tarantino
This guy held the toilet door open for me, in a restaraunt in the U.K :D
I don't think Viggo is going to end up in a Tarantino film...thank God. What a truly interesting person, who is incidentally an actor.
I have a lot of respect for this guy because he's keeping it real and is genuine despite the fact that he has became well known. Especially when in todays media and industry everything has become superficial and mechanical.
The girl is cute.... But next to Viggo, I have to rethink my entire lifestyle
I have loads of respect for this man
Very spiritual man.
viggo is a true artist and a true human being
This man is one of my new favourite actors. I love what he says about not categorizing art, and that art is "having to do with paying attention." He's nailed it.
Next to Gandalf, Aragorn is my favorite LOTR character. Viggo is a great actor
+futureshock mine too :) Viggo was a perfect choice by Peter :)
yes!😍
+futureshock Legolas , orlando bloom is mine
Wonderhorse900 You are
I love his answers .so thoughtful and intelligent
just met him a few days ago. kind and gracious man❤❤
Great actor. That sauna scene in Eastern Promises was insane.
I was very impressed by his performance in 'The Road', it was such an intense and harrowing film which must have been incredibly mentally exhausting for him.
I just love viggo eyes I think they are beautiful his eyes make my heart melt
هو شخص جذاب جدا حتي في عمر الستين
yup, he's a great man, actor, artist and dad
the more I know, more respect for Viggo
Such an great actor and a good person.
Very truthful interview.. seems like he's not that hypnotized like everybody else in the world. TIME magazine seem to have cut some parts in which he might have revealed his true self and inner thoughts.
I love the fact that he is in his socks. He always seems to be so comfortable with himself.
When I watch a Viggo clip my attitude and my behaviour are better for a while afterwards.
He's wearing The San Lorenzo de Almagro's football t-shirt
Poor Viggo.
Haha, he grew up in Argentina for a big part of his childhood.
Excellent taste for sports
"participating in life" I like that
When i was like 6 or so, me and a friend would pretend like we were aragon and legolas. But i was always aragon cause he was way cooler :P
+Julius Miller I am 25....I still do this lol
Mb your friend was coller than you but Aragorn himself was much more badass than Legolas
He should keep The Lord of the rings look
That's exactly what I thought
I miss my dirty, scruffy ranger!🙁
Jake Setnik he really looked awesome in that movie 👍
He was fantastic in Eastern Promises
Love Viggo. I knew he would be around for a long time from seeing some of his early roles.
He seems to have his head together, too. That always helps.
What a captivating guy. Very intriguing character.
the way he talks is fucking legendary :) kind of dark, a little slow and mysterious :D i love it
such a chill guy, doesn't even wear shoes for a interview.
Oh my G. His HAAAAAANDS.. OMG he has the greatest hands!
I love this man.
thanx for saying that we germans are people, too.
i got a real chill when he said that and looked directly into the camera!
viggo, you're the best actor i know!!!
Wooow hes such a gentle person, so friendly !!! IL OVE THAT!
I just love this guy.
“This next question is from .... *sees polish name*..... Krakow Poland..”
My King.
Tiene la camiseta de san lorenzo....es un groso!!! Argentina siempre presente en su corazon!!!! 😊
Qué grande que es este tipo, lleva al ciclón a todos lados!!!
i love viggo mortenson
i like the fact he is not mainstream
He's a cool guy. For real, I love the way he talk
his 2 seconds shift of face expressions (uninterested-wide laugh-uninterested) is iconic. haha. :D
Right?! He goes from intimidatingly serious to unbelievably charming. I hope to meet someone like him (wise, honest, kind) in my future!
They remained there until Mortensen was eleven, when his parents divorced. With his mother he returned to New York, where he spent the rest of his childhood, graduating from Watertown High School in Watertown, New York.He then attended St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, earning a degree in Spanish Studies and Politics in 1980.
Man, this guy is just simply amazing. Genius, in so many ways...
And I love when he brought up the people that go "over the line" and think they're in a "relationship" with him lol. Just how he said he worries about them (and himself lol!) was sweet...
And "Germans are people too" rofl!
a role model. a 60 y o genius amazing human being.
I want to see a movie with him, Mads Mikkelsen, Javier Bardem and probably add in my favorite actress, Emily Blunt.
They are just, too fucking talented and skillful.
1:03, thats so SO true, art is a way of living, you dont need to gain money from it to be an artist
i love his voice
He is vigo you are like the buzzing of flies to him!!
haven't seen much of him for a while. He's an underrated actor these days. He's fecking great.
Just watched "A history of Violence" and loved it. You are a master of your art and wise beyond your years. Hope you come back to New Zealand soon. We love you down here! I especially find your reason for choosing violent roles insightful. By not fictionalising or sensationalising violence you go against the grain of Hollywood and represent the horrific reality, meaningless core and empty soul of violence . Peace to you brother
definitely...NO ONE in this planet could EVER, EVER do what Viggo did with Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
This guys smooth
So wise
