A first love is only hard to get over because we have no experience on how we appropriately accept rejection or moving on from a relationship. As we grow into adults and become better at finding people we have more in common with and people whose behaviors and temperament are more compatible with our own, we grow as a person until the person we were during our first love, is barely recognizable to the person we are now. But i guess not everyone experiences personal growth, but instead romanticizes past loves, while failing to remember the stark reality of why we moved on it the first place. An abusive partner would have to be the number one reason to never go back there no matter if it was the greatest first love every imagined. Still not worth it and when you remember those times, that should bring an end to whatever was hard to get over about it.
