I watched the documentary and it was heart breaking. People always say well that’s just part of war….brush it off. In this day and age to still think like that, like it’s the norm, astounds me.

Screams before silence is one of the most jarring documentaries. It revealed just how disingenuous some of the woman’s rights movements are. These men used the r word against these women as a weapon of war. It was one of the most barbaric actions against women. Yet, very few seemed to be disgusted. What does that say? Do these movements actually care about all women? Or are there certain women which are excluded?
Metoo was a scam if women [besides sharing their stories] thought they could obtain justice. You need evidence to convict and finger pointing is not it. Harvey Weinstein is a perfect example of that.
If anyone was at all interested in getting justice for these women, if justice is to be had, they wouldn't have created this video, they would have built a case. Creating a "smear video" like this contaminates any judge or jury pool in the future.
Normal, every day people cannot comprehend what happened that day! Its too gore for them to believe its true!
People need to know! Their loved ones are at risk!

Look i'm glad she made a movie about it, it happened. Anyone who says it didn't haven't been paying attention, they are just virtue signalling a cause. But she also seems a little Naive, and is cherry picking ONE of the terrible tactics used that day. There were others.

Much of the ME is very anti west, so the chances of that happening are slight to none, to say the least. Filtering it through our Western ideals and culture is a mistake.
Fact is, the Arabian Peninsular is a brutal land, with a brutal history and a brutal cultures, and when we see that brutality, I don't know why Westerners are shocked. That is in no way excusing this, rather explaining it. It can be exquisitely beautiful in some places, and wonderfully hospitable in others, but it is, has, and will likely always be a brutal place, and part of that is its history, part of that is cultural.norms, part of that is it's religious zealots. This is NOT the West, it will never be the West, and I think Westerners have to wake up a little and start looking at it for what it is. It doesn't matter what I think, how I wish these things weren't the cultural norm, fact is that they are, so how does that change what we do, think and say ?.

I can't believe that this has been denied so much that there is no real feel for what the actual facts are. It was so frustrating when this started coming out that it wasn't covered enough for people to understand what the truth was. I have never seen such weird gaslighting on such a mass scale. And why? Important story but they’re not the only ones who have done this. The Russians did the same in Ukraine. In fact rape is a part of daily life for many women and children in the US and other countries, not at war. Women must be equal to men under the Constitution and crimes against women and children must be prosecuted to the fullest extent.

From the data that's available, there's ~450K cases of sexual assault annually in the US that has a population of ~300M people with about ~150M accounting for women and children. That puts the cases of annual sexual assault at 0.003% of the population of women and children and calculating this out, it would mean that on any given day of the year if you're a woman or child in the US there's a 0.00082% chance that you will be the victim of sexual assault. To put this into perspective, the odds of getting hit be lightning are higher at 0.0065%. Even if you factor in unreported cases of sexual assault, the statistical difference would have to be exponentially large to raise it to the level of a daily occurrence. But if you have the data that "rape is a part of daily life for women and children in the US" then please present it otherwise this sounds like nothing more than a cognitive distortion...
The stats are 3 or 4 out of five women are sexually assaulted in their lifetimes. Some more than once. It often goes unreported. Just ask all of the women you know or what the news. Now, it seems young men are assaulted too and sex trafficking has grown in the US. It's scary. Ask women directly if they feel safe please. Most cases go un reported due to the Shame and trauma of reporting, then many charges are dropped or cases not charged at all so crime stats reported as low. @@Chad_Max

The National Institute of Justice did a study entitled "The Sexual Victimization of College Women" and found less than 3% of women on college campuses will experience a completed and/or attempted rape. There's simply no data or statistical evidence to support the idea that most women and children in the US are under the daily threat of sexual assault or rape....

The New York times piece was officially debunked because it was based on an investigation where it was indicated that there was an insufficient amount of physical evidence to support the claim. The investigation itself was widely publicized but its findings were grossly misrepresented. The author of the article also has a history of propagandizing for the state of Israel.
That being said, we have a small handful of documented and confirmed r*pes thus far and witness testimony claiming that there are many more to be discovered. They claim most of the victims were killed or are still captive which is why there have been so few reports made. I watched this film today. Despite being a journalist and having worked in the media all my professional career there are moments since where I wish I had not because there are now things I cannot unhear, unsee that will live with me forever. But I'm glad I've been a witness and able to say with absolute certainty that this happened. I've told my daughter and dear friend ex wife, my mother NOT to watch it because it's the MOST disturbing documentary I've ever watched. It is VERY disturbing and deeply confronting. The line one women gives, "this redefines evil" captures what I watched. Well done Sheryl Sandberg bringing real truth to light.
