I like it. People complaining about changes need to relax. It was never going to be good as the animated series but it is good. People are really upset by small changes like damn relax.

Didn't fans complain about the cartoons for years for having "flawed" characters and calling ships worse? So Netflix changed it, I don't understand what's the deal now.
I’m not mad that there are changes. I just don’t think they were executed well. It’s kinda dull and lacks the joy that the original had. They had to balance the serious and light and it seems they went more serious. I wanted a more serious show, but this was too much. Aang was crying half the show lol. I think it was too direct in some parts as well. Like instead of staying in one place for long (southern water tribe) they just kinda blazed through it. I think the whole first episode should have been the southern water tribe.
I haven’t finished the season yet but so far, i love the changes that they’ve made. The only thing I’m concerned about is if they keep the White Lotus in it or not. Seeing Bumi’s character changes was a little upsetting but I guess he could change up.
I like this difference. makes sense for him to speak to her on her island. and that entire sequence was SICK AF idc

Fun fact. Daniel Dae Kim who plays Ozai in the live action voiced General Fong in the animated series. That's the earthbending general who put Katara in harm's way to force Aang into the Avatar state. He also voiced Hiroshi Sato in The Legend of Korra AKA Asami's father.
I love Aang's scene with Avatar Kyoshi! Even though it was harsh, she was able to really convey to Aang the gravity of his responsibility. Also, Suki is definitely the hottie of this series:)
I think people need to realise that they were young when they saw the animated serie (which is SO good I can’t deny it) and now they are adult, so you can’t compare how you felt watching the anime and what you are feeling watching the tv show.
The show is very good and you can clearly see that Netflix put a lot of money on it !
I disagree. I rewatched the animated show as an adult and the quality still stands. I don’t think animation needs to be made live action. Especially for animation with many fantastical and magical elements. Live action is too limited for it to translate well. And animation as a medium doesn’t deserve to be deemed as lesser than live action.
It has nothing to do with being young. The animated show is simply an amazing show no matter what age you watch it at. People who didn't even see it till they were adults ended up falling in love with it for a reason. It doesn't need a live action counterpart that feels lifeless and is basically just a copy of the original with a few (worse and unnecessary) changes. It feels like the changes they made were just unnecessary and for the sake of "being different." But the show is literally perfect so there's no need to change anything. Which is another reason why it shouldn't be being remade in the first place. If you want to change things, just make a whole different show or adapt one of the comic books into a live action. Tell a new story instead of telling one we already know, but only worse.

I really appreciate Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (2024 Iroh) didn’t try to imitate Mako’s (2005 Iroh) performance because there’s a huge difference in Voice acting and Physical acting. 2024 Iroh being his own character but just enough to still hint 2005s Iroh.

Just gonna say this in one word, "BAD ASS!" Okay, two words. She absolutely personified Avatar Kyoshi, and perfectly! She's literally BAD ASS. Episode 2 seriously did it for me. Not too many people even noticed that, through Avatar Kyoshi, we literally got an EPIC taste of all the elemental bending powers that Aang will possess, the day he becomes the true Avatar he was destined to come. No other Avatar that Aang meets, from Books 1-4, has ever demonstrated such power.
Love this live adaptation, anyone upset about this show had expectations that was never going to be met, people will complain just to hear themselves talk

Kyoshi telling aang the watertribe was getting attacked was done only to justify putting here in this episode. But it still made no sense

Iroh is my fav character in the anime.. I hope season 2 we see more of him and his better scenes... I hope they do justice to the scene where zuko apologizes and iroh goes "I thought you had lost ur way" zuko: "I did lose my way" Iroh: "but you found it again"
My only complaint is that aang was like a reverse korra this season. Straight airbending. Man didnt even have a glass of water to drink

The Kyoshi transformation didn’t happen in season 1 of the original show. Idk how he(Jerry) knew that scene was coming.

Nah, not Wellz, Jerry was calling things really early. Things that didn't happen in the cartoon, or at least not this early in the series. Doesn't mean he watched ahead, but it had me raise an eyebrow.🤨
Wellz has another channel with his GF, though & they're watching the show over there. They stayed up for 12am premiere the first night. So, Wellz is for sure ahead of the rest. Which is no biggie. Jerry threw me off, though.
Even if Jerry watched ahead, that's not a problem. It's just weird when people act like they didn't already watch it. Again, I could just be over-analyzing.

The Kyoshi Transformation was something that happened in season 2. Episode 5 to be exact, which was the Avatar day episode. Aang was on trial because Kyoshi killed the leader of the city when she split Kyoshi Island off from the mainland. They dressed him in Kyoshi's clothes, which Jerry mentioned & she possessed his body to confess to the "crime."
Aang had never even so much as spoken to Kyoshi up until that point, and she never fought in his body. So, for him to recall so much about that moment & tie that to this episode where the story beat is completely different an interesting coincidence, if that's the case. Clearly the showrunners are, in fact, splicing those two episodes together & therefore, will skip Avatar day next season.
However, it was just odd TO ME, that someone who only watched the cartoon would know/think/accidentally guess they made that change.

While its not perfect its much more true to the story than our previous example. I am satisfied. I wish aang was a bit more whimsy and i wish it wasnt as serious as a tone but its alright. It is amazing to see it brought to life in a more proper fashion even though its probably not what everyone wanted.
I mean she did give him a kiss on a cheek when they met at Kyoshi island but they dont kiss on the lips til much later

NO THEY WEREN'T. Sokka's sexism here would've made a more compelling scene to why we root for him to learn from Suki & the Kyoshi Warriors, in order for him to become humbled by her.

Now time for the real truth, the changes to me were bad, but overall the live action was somewhat good, but the animated series in my opinion is way better😂😂
The changes are extremely bad and not needed. They have ruined half the characters and storylines for nothing. The only good episode is episode one because they did a really good job showing the battle with the air nomads and how tragic it was. And maybe episode 2 was somewhat good just because of Kyoshi. Everything else is disgusting.

I personally wasn't a fan of Kyoshi doing the lame marvel-ish falling from the sky move, but that's being nitpicky. The Kyoshi episode was pretty good.
Some people are just haters. The see xhange as weakness. Even a 1 for 1 adaptation would piss people off.

I watched the animated series when it first came out in 2005 age 20! and I’ve washed it over the last 19yrs I say that to say this I have no issue with the live action series. Of course it’s not gonna follow the animated series verbatim!!!!!! It’s still good!!!!!!!

This live action costumes looked good. They had some good visual effects, and the worldbuilding was great. But really, is that what makes a good film? I'm not expecting to be copy and copied show, but come on. They didn't reference at all towards the animated show. Yeah, visuals were good, but that's not enough to make a series. And I feel like the live action didn't do a good service to the original either. It made it seemed like the producers and writers didn't study the original source.
The dialogs aren't matching what the characters are portraying. There's no much telling and not enough showing. They making it dumb down for the audience.
Suki was done dirty. Showing in the live action how she's thirtying over Sokka, no development at all in their relationship. If they were so focused on erasing the sexist concept, what they did to Suki right there is sexist. Basically, she's only into him based on Sokka's looks, not on the actual character. In the animated, Suki doesn't show Sokka affection until he EARNS it by changing his views. And I don't think the animated showed the two that were interested in each other because Sokka was into Yui first. And Yui was changed up too. The wig was a little off, but I think how they made her a waterbender is strange. Because if in the animated version women in the north tride could only be healers if they're a waterbender. You should've went with that instead if you wanted change. And don't think there's enough personalities of the characters. Especially Katara.
And the Kyoshi was a bad move, it's wasn’t her moment to do that scene. Because it's Roku who's Aang's guide, he was the last avatar before the war started. And they made Kyoshi as an anger and vengeful person, that's not who she represented. Yes, she's believed in justice but avatar is suppose to not only about balance but peace as well. That scene she was basically yelling at Aang. In the animated version, in the book 3, when his asking for advice, Kyoshi's response was calm and honset. And the reason Aang didn’t get to the village in time because he's too busy talking with Kyoshi.

Aside from some sparse moments of visual spectacle, everything was awful from the writing to the horrendous acting.. the removal of important character setups so that there’s no payoffs with their arc .. to a what seems like a complete misunderstanding of what bending is as an art form, inspired by real martial arts. Aang levitates arbitrarily, fire is not an extension of the firebenders, but look like they are throwing baseballs. Just an overall disappointment. But then again I wasnt expecting much to begin with
so, how would you do it if you were only given 8 episodes? and each is an hour?

I wasn’t expecting much, but I’m impressed by what they did, reminds me of the last of us, different but works. I like the fact that they buffed aang because looking back it makes no sense why he couldn’t jump high and fall slowly in the original when he can produce winds strong enough to knock over tanks. People need to stop acting like he was flying lol.
