One of the female singers from the early days Tina was a friend of my mother she used to come over to our house on Corbett st in SF and play our old upright piano
I saw him in a small bar in NY. It's hard to describe his style. He was great entertainer, who dared to be different and people loved him for that. Yes, Dan, dance and sing with the angels.

Dan and the Hot Licks, as the original band, put on a real show for people. Dan is still one of the funniest people. He writes really fun music. I miss Maryann and Naomi. They were so kitschy. I always wanted to be a Lickette.
Saw him live in the early 70's as an opening act. By the time they were thru with their set the audience just didn't want them to leave and actually booed the main act. Great live band!

Sure do miss him, he was truly one-of-a-kind. So glad I got to see him numerous times over the years, he always put on a great show.
Same here.We always caught him( I recorded him at least 4 times) at THE ARK in Ann Arbor.His last tour was cancelled...and then he passed.He was always cordial...I have his last song list and he signed his new CD.
So wonderful I feel lucky that this was a round when I was first getting into more jazzy stuff and away from the am pop stuff. A great time to be alive.
Saw him at the Troubadour, saw him with the Charlatans in SF. What a great man. R.I.P.

I was lucky enough to accidentally come across an outdoor DH concert about 18 or so years ago and was in heaven.
saw this band live 3 or 4 times in early + mid'70s
a great dance band with deliciously comic songs+spirit
+ one of the rare bands for which energy invested to get near the stage was
very much worth the investment, becuz the 3singers gave great visual comedy
in their onstage presence. By the time. I saw them they were playing large halls
like Winterland, so most of us couldn't tune in to that aspect of the show
I had the opportunity to see Dan with the Acoustic Warriors in Tampa in 1988. My oldest brother was a fan, so of course so was I. That was when I was 12 or 13. I remember seeing him on the Tonight Show promoting the album Where's The Money." He was great then as he is now.
Started listening to Dan in 74 after a friend came back from Austin Tx. and said he had seen him at the Armadillo. R.I.P Dan!!!
I saw them on the bill with Cheech and Chong. I was there for Hicks and Licks, but the crowd kept shouting “Cheech”, “Chong”. Dan stepped to the front of the stage and asked “Has anybody ever heard of us?” They went on to do their usual dynamite performance.
Farewell, Dan, thanks for all the great songs and thanks for helping me archive the history of the Charlatans. A true original in a culture of commercial formula. How Can You Go Away, When We'll Miss You?
Dan sounds like he was influenced by the Black Jazz from WW-II era France. It is a style that I hope is never lost. It is just pure fun and thank God someone is smart enough to keep playing it. Good music is just good and timeless. Thanks Dan

I saw these guys at the old Agora Club on North High St. in Columbus in the early 70s. They were amazing! Got all of his early albums which are true musical gems as well. Man there was some awesome music coming out in the 60s and early 70s.
And now he's gone...Feb 6th, 2016...RIP Dan

... ran back to barracks and my world 🌎 exploded with that absolute best of the best music i had ever heard. Found Striking it Rich couple months later .
50 +years by my count...and counting still. Music as fresh and powerful as anything ever wrtten even today he is still my champion... of you need to hear this music.

Great performer,nothing like their live shows--RIP---no one has come close to emulating Django Reinhardt & Stephane Grappelli but these guys---a good movie for this type of music is " Sweet Lowdown" a woody allen movie

Dan could be a real a-----e, too drunk, a real jerk on stage, but he was an amazing performer. When he was on, it was great. He was very funny, sardonic and brilliant. Thanks for showing this clip.

Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks were such a hot group but too often overlooked! His earliest LP's are classics. Many pop stars used him as a mentor. No group mixed styles with true validiity as they did!

I knew Maryann Price (Hot Lick on the left) back in SF in the seventies as well as John Girton his guitar player (I think that is him in this video), they were living together at the time. This was after Hicks broke up the band at the height of there popularity. Good folks, John was a wizard and Maryann killed it. We were playing the streets and the Cannery and had mutual friends. Traded him an ES175 for a truck. Ah Good times. Might be Rob Wasserman in the video, can't quite tell.
I enjoyed her with Asleep At The Wheel.
I saw him when Bob seger opened for him, poor Dan was booed off stage.
Recent Bob Seger right? Had it been 1970 Bob Seger...he'd have gone down just fine.Seger draws a rather conservative crowd these days....not the open minded hippies of the old days.I am not even surprised.
