      MAME-FAN It’s not. The issue is the owner is not honest, and false advertises the amount of working games. It’s way overpriced for the amount of working games, but we all believe 70,000 working games lol which allows the guy to slap in a low grade pc, and charge a fortune.

    Good conclusion at the end...if I had friends that were getting into emulation I would tell him to keep it simple. Start with the emulator itself and learn it, add games, map controls,etc. And then after you have a few emulators maybe start looking in the front ends. And then start looking at hardware. That was the route I took from learning the stuff and it has come pretty easy, even though I know it was a lot of information. Mainly because I took it slow and one at a time. Now I can maintain my setup very easily since I know it in and out. These all-in-one systems are very tempting for people that don't have the time or focus to learn the stuff. But I could see them to be very frustrating in the hands of someone that doesn't enjoy tinkering with technology.
    My setup is pretty simple... Big box is my front end, retroarch for my consoles, MAME for arcade, and then Visual Pinball X my pinball. The only other emulator I have is Dolphin which I use for GameCube. I use two Xbox controllers and a double arcade stick with six buttons each, with a spinner and a ball

    • @mamefan
      @mamefan  Před 4 lety +1

      I tried Retroarch and had a lot of problems bc many of the cores wouldn't work. That was years ago. Maybe, it's better now?

    • @Alex-bl6oi
      @Alex-bl6oi Před 4 lety +1

      @@mamefan I think so. Though it does also help to have decent hardware... Such as a relatively modern processor and a decent Nvidia graphics card. I use a 1060 and it can do anything that I throw at it, lots of upscaling on the older consoles too. Though, I also keep my setup pretty simple, relative to a setup like yours where it has literally everything. I was lucky to stumble across ETA Primes youtube videos where he shows step by step how to set up all the emulators and also the BigBox front end. I also followed a few other CZcamsrs suggestions about retroarch settings for certain cores. Check out my last video in my channel it shows my current build

    I've really wanted to get an EHA for quite a few years now. I have a hyperspin system set up with an xarcade tankstick on a pedestal for now. However there really is absolutely no excuse for them not to have game systems like the Wii and such controls mapped by now. For the price they charge and the years in business they should have every system in their builds ready to play immediately. Ridiculous

    Really cool review! I'm loving what i've seen so far. I dont think the review about the arcade sticks being angled is accurate for not liking them though because hypothetically you can say the same about playing with controllers for console games and someone is sitting on a side sofa on an angle but we still instinctively know to press down on the d pad to go down on the screen, the controllers dont change based on how we sit know what i mean? Bro. First, love the channel, love the mame love. I’m right there with you. I’m almost done with this video and it really bums me out that you’re having to deal with so many compromises. I know there’s a million different setups, but I do think you’d truly be happier with a recroommasters cabinet. From there, add the monitor, speakers and cpu. If you’re concerned about that part, don’t be. It’s easy as hell ESPECIALLY if you only care about mame. Recroommasters is already pre configured for mame. So the final piece is launchbox not hyperspin. It makes an elegant, refined gaming system that’s only what you want. All for under 2k. I’m gonna post a video of mine and hopefully it looks more like what you want.

    Most of these arcade companies buy their hard-drives pre-built from from like ali-express or some shit, you can tell because common games like Mario 64 are broken, these companies don't play test these things and China sure as shit isn't either. HyperSpin is not user friendly at all (I don't think the code has been updated in years). LaunchBox with BigBox is currently my favorite to use for my home arcade, very easy to use and is updated just about every month. It sucks that you pay so much money for something and it just doesn't work 100% out of the box, but I also understand people not wanting to mess with software, finding roms, playtesting etc, or using powertools to build their own.

I first got into emulation (MAME) 20yrs ago when I was at university and still have the very first version I downloaded. I also bought an X-Arcade and a couple of other pieces of hardware.
    Unfortunately a wife and kids have put a hold on things for now but I’ll get back into things at some stage.
    Thanks for the upload man. Really enjoyed the full 3hrs🤣

      @SmokeRingHalo Před 3 lety +2

      @@Irraptured It's great so far. Even have a working LCD marquee like in this video (but from Pixelcade, not china) and just got a new controller with LED joysticks and buttons (Rec Room Masters) to work with LEDBlinky program that lights up the controls for which game you are on. TV install was easy the first time, little more work getting it out and back in the second time when I upgraded. The ROMS were plug n play, just plugged in three 8TB external hard drives. To me most everything has been a breeze but this isn't my first PC build either, it's like my 5th or so. Anything difficulties I did have were solved by great customer support from pixelcade, rec room masters, and hyper arcade systems. There is still some clutter in the drives because there is just so much, but not nearly as bad because hyper arcade systems is always working on it and updating. Now I have it all up and running in only 2 months instead of waiting 10 for it to be delivered. I made the correct decision.

I once spent months setting up a hyperspin and rocketlauncher and it crashed and reset everything to defaults, ive since moved on to bigbox which has gotten alot better recently with backups etc. I know a guy who sells these drives for 7+ years and his drives have issues. The only way this company could deliver on the software was if they had a team of IT that separately worked on these drives by platform, then you would need a windows programmer on site who worked as engineer to troubleshoot the windows problems. More games more problems...

    Hello MAME-FAN. Really love this video. I truly enjoy watching down to earth and brutally honest review and this is definitely one..subscribed immediately. I've just received my pedestal from EHA a couple weeks ago and I'm not having as much fun as I thought I would once it arrived. Though no fault of EHA, this is mainly an issue dealing with emulation and Hyperspin or what have you. Anything from games not playing, sound or control issues. I'm using my own controllers, so any mapping guidance would be nice. Don't know why I expected this to be plug n play. I'm aware this is the nature of this community, but could you make a video addressing the problems we all may face and the ones that gets under your skin. I've experimented with the Raspberry Pi, so I knew emulation wasn't perfect, but after spending thousands on a pedestal..I need more in depth and personal information from another owner of a MAME setup. I know you only care about the arcade games, but I'd like to hear any input from your perspective. Like I mentioned before...brutally honest. Thanks for the videos man. With your knowledge is there a reason why you didn't? Apart from that, I too have a pretty vast collection of arcade machines many of which are Sega classics. They do break down and I had to learn how to trouble shoot them with the help from the online communities. I have messed around with Roms too and found them glitchy and non responsive hence my hesitation to buy this for anything other than the MAME Games. I have a question about the MAME emulator games specifically. Do they all work and do they all work like they are expected too? Meaning giving you that same feel and authenticity you get from playing the real old school arcade games... also is Killer Instinct 2 on the MAME list of games? Thank you

    • @mamefan
      @mamefan  Před 3 lety

      Thanks. MAME can't play every game, for example, many Sega 3D games. You'd use other emulators for those. Some 3D games need a good PC to run full speed. Most games run perfectly though. Yeah, killer instinct 2 is. I did a video of it.

Much more simple than HS.), gathering all the art work, making custom side bezels, wiring controls, building and designing the cabinets/pedestals, figuring out HLSL settings and filters for other emulators that play retro games to not make them look so bad on an LCD, etc. I'm not surprised half of those games didnt work or had issues tbh. Mame is definitely the most reliable and flexible emulator since i definitely have had the least amount of problems with it overall. The LCD marquee definitely seems like a daunting task to take on even though it's cool AF. I prefer the pedestal arcades though since they're easier to move and work on.
