Nishiki wasn't just Kiryus oath brother, but they basically were actual brothers. Fighting your oath brother hurts, but having to fight then watch the man who is basically your bio brother die is so much worse.

Kiryu is both what made him strong, and what broke him down. Kiryu there put it all in perspective and kept his bead on his shoulders. But with kiryu gone he was always only second best and everyone made sure he knew it. It was enough to break any man. Though, i get the feeling with motr interaction between nishki and kiryu earlier in kiwami, the end result could have been different.
I played yakuza chronologically, so I started on yakuza 0. The moment I saw their tattoos, I knew Nishiki was going to be a villain one day Two brothers, one always overshadowing the other, one with a koi tattoo, and the other with a dragon tattoo A Japanese myth says that there was a koi fish trying to go up a river, so that once he reaches it, it'd become a dragon It's basically "You're never going to be him" painted into Nishiki's skin
@@AbelMusa I know, but knowing how dragon tatoos are like: the real deal in the RGG franchise, and also Kiryu is the protagonist, add the many times Nishiki cried in 0, it's kinda obvious Nishiki was going to break in a near future if it wasn't for the dramatization and romanticization of the characters, his tatoo would make more sense to be a dragon, and Kiryu to be a Koi in the first game, Nishiki rise through the ranks like a leading dragon, while Kiryu is a tough MF that can't be downed easily, and looks up for Kazama as a role model, even though he thinks Kiryu would never be like his boss, just like a Koi fish would revere a dragon, taking a long time to become one, but Kiryu literaly has DRAGON on his name dragons are also associated with transcendence, so Kiryu is supposed to be the perfect role model for a yakuza: the only dragon that remains after fights against other dragons, while the fish like creatures are more emotional and can break you can see that on how Nishiki acted like a bitch until he kills someone (being a koi fish), and Kasuga ALMOST killed a guy, blinded with rage, with Kasuga being a dragon fish unfortunately, regardless of how cool those tatoos are, and what they actually mean, the narrative is a bit "on your face" about who does what based on their tatoos look at Majima's tatoo: a sad and yet happy crazy man, just like a hannya can be seen as a crying or laughing demon women. it's a "the tatoo symbolism dictates who you will be" kinda situation. majima has his tatoo long before his traumas happened from the tatoos on the series, the Koi fish is one of the few I'd actually put on myself if I had to
