Yup I saw him pull up the focus tree first minute into the video and I was confused, at this point I would’ve been totally okay with bitter using Road to 56 for certain countries. Because Austria not having a proper focus tree is downright fucking disgusting.

This game will be close to 10 years soon. The fact that austria, sweden with norway and (I think) whole south america does not have a unique focus true is like you said, downright fucking disgusting. You pay 20-30$ for a dlc, and all you get is focus tree up to 2-3 countries. And don't give me the "paradox can support hoi4 thanks to this" crap. It helps, but this amount of money for so little is no laughing matter. mods can give you better focus trees, and much, much more for free. Why can't just paradox contact them, and work with them? literally no reason to give money to paradox at this point, they are so anti consumer.

It blows my mind that Switzerland got a tree but Austria has to live with the generic one while two other countries can get Habsburgs.
To be fair, they exist entirely to be eaten by Germany.

Switzerland tree is so offputting when playing as them or when playing against them, on ahistorical they usually get half of my Italian puppets for free its kinda revolting

A thing you can do to avoid germany getting a lot of war score is disabling supply for your allies in supply map mode, which will make germans refuse to have divisions on the frontline
Won’t stop the Sudetenland thing though.
Austria-Hungary may have been a failed state, but it just looks nice on the map i dont know how to describe it. it just feels correct in the space

It was a failed state AT thé end or ww1. Before that it functioned.
Aren't all defunct states by definition "failed" once they can't control their own territory? How was Austria-Hungary any more of a failed state than, for example; the German Empire (and then the German Reich), Russian Empire (and then the Soviet Union), Kingdom of Denmark-Norway (and then the United Kingdoms of Sweden and Norway), Roman Empire, Holy Roman Empire, the many forms of Spain over the years, the many French Republics/Empires, etc.? These all lasted for a long time until some revolution happened to where it couldn't continue existing and became some other form with different territory.

Seyss-Inquart should 100% have a portrait in-game considering he's also one of the Reichskommissariat leaders.
Same with Egelseer because Germany gets him as a general (a good one at that) and then you have this generic guy in the middle of unique german portraits sticking out like a sore thumb
@@Hilter420 I'm incredulous as to whether Germany would need another "rework," but they 100% need a "tune-up" like the Together For Victory countries got. More portraits, more flavour, maybe some minor improvements to a few focuses like Form the RKs so you could have more puppets like Bohemia-Moravia and the General Government.
Well for a fact if Austria gets fascist without getting Anchlussed, and Germany makes Reichkommissariat Niederlande, Seyss-Inquart will be in charge of both but will only have a portrait on the kommissariat.
Arthur Zes en een Kwart was Hitler’s man in the Netherlands, so it is strange that he has a generic portrait. Also Ernst Kaltenbrunner with generic photo, same as Rendulic I think.

Fun fact, Seys-Inquart was the governer of the occupied Netherlands in WW2. We called him "Zes en een kwart" or "Six and a Quarter" this joke was made because he walked really limp, almost like one of his legs were much larger then the other.

Me doing Austria for years 💀 I only have Waking the Tiger and Battle of the Bosporous sooo... no spy stuff or whatever etc. . I even managed to ally with Italy against them twice, holding the 2 tiles at the Mountain Range left and right, but it doesn't work! Italians are so bad somehow 😭
I would never start from Hungary. Doesn't fit

I would've recommended playing Austria with the rt56 focus
There’s also a mod named “Dreams of Austria” where you can remake the Austrian and Austro Hungarian Empires. ( The HRE too )
That would invalidate the whole point of the list. Which is to play the base game A to Z.

My guess is that after we get the Nordic countries we will get a germanic dlc with Belgium, Austria, improved Germany and maybe even Luxembourgish focus trees

they never exactly said that Austria wouldn't receive one in this one, so maybe since austria is a snowy mountain country, they'll give Austria a tree along with the nordics? idk.
i doubt Austria will get a tree. The right time to give Austria a focus tree was in Death or Dishonor or By Blood Alone.
Same for Albania, who was skipped THREE times: Death or Dishonor (they're next to Yugoslavia), Battle for the Bosporus (they're next to Greece), and By Blood Alone (they're connected to Italy)
Nordic (apart from Finnish) is Germanic btw :) So is English...
And Belgium is more Dutch and French than German. Only the tiny territory ceded to Belgium after WW1 is ethnically German. More Dutch people speak German as their native language than in Belgium...
Germanic is a language family, German is a specific language. The areas we typically consider German are part of the High and Low German language groups (which does not include Belgium)
And you forgot about Alsace-Lorraine (modern day Alsace-Moselle) in France, which is a majority High German area, and Trentino-Alto Adige (southern Tyrol) in Italy, also a majority High German area. Both of these areas are bigger (Just Trentino-Alto Adige in Italy has over a million people, compared to the 77,000 in Belgium) than the tiny part of Belgium that is majority German...
this run is symbolic for every hoi4 achievment game im playing. Just some weird A.I. thing happening everytime screwing me over.
Pro tip: in case your troops are pinned by enemy, and you have an EMPTY enemy tile that you wanna take (expl: zagreb was empty, enemy was pinning you), you could do some cheese to circumvent the pinning, first pause the game, then fallback/retreat your troop into your own territory, once you have the retreat arrow shown, right click on the empty enemy tile you want to take, this will make your division 'retreat' into the enemy territory and voila it's yours
But wouldn't that make you not actually control the tile you've walked onto? I've had many instances of my troops standing on enemy territory after retreating onto it.
@@theorange1729 That happens to me sometimes but if you unpause the game for a few hours the tile will swap to you

When I play Austria, I always use between two giants because it has a huge focus tree that has a bigger focus tree than any other country. It has basically any path that you can think of and it is extremely fun, but most are hard because of Germany

One thing you can do to prevent Germany from taking any land in the war against Yugoslavia is deny your allies access to your supply. This, I believe, will keep than from walking through your controlled territory, meaning they can't get into Yugoslavia. Unless of course they start some sort of naval invasion all the way from northern Germany all the way down into the Mediterranean.
Or use paratroopers.
You actually ended that game in a prime position to be a scenario where someone could play any side of the war.
I would also think of one that includes France which is right after he got control of ostrava

Fun Fact: Kurt Schuschnigg (Leader of Austria from 1934 to 1938) was also a fascist, with an similar symbol to the hakenkreuz, the Kruckenkreuz(Shown on the Flag when he flipped fascist). The dude actually shown as leader of the fascist party, Arthur Seis-inquart, was the leader of the austrian supporters of the ndsap, which basically wanted to be annexed by Hitler and Germany.

Soo about the ostrava thing it was owned by Germany at 24:14 wich is why the whole thing flipped to them.
Also vichy France is based on if Germany gets Paris.(unless thats been changed.)

i dont know if bitter steel realized, but you can avoid germany getting war score by disabling allied supply on your supply hubs. the ai moves their troops away when this happens.

How did Germany end up in a civil war?
Munich does not happen, Czechs fight for their country and Austrian mustachio gets assassinated. I think it is The Oster Conspiracy event and 33% chance of getting that ending. Historical focuses probably went to the toilet once Anschluss failed.

There's a way to save yourself from Germany doing the Sudetenland focus. The Czechs can't control Prague. Well the state Prague is in, but you need Prague for that. This bypasses the focus for Germany.
I don't know if this still works as I haven't touched Austria Hungary since BBA became the worst dlc.
I see the paradrop counts is because it counts as a move action and not an attack order from the mikitary access country

Actually the german civil war is something i always force when playing with UK, I land on Hamburg and then push a lil bit but I think it only happens in 1938 when you dont give the sudetenland
As a person who plays a aoc2 mod as austria i can confirm its pretty hard in every game to play as austria
Either I'm doing it wrong or sadly the 'Call arms then ignore Anchluss' trick doesn't work anymore - each time I try it it immediately turns into Germany declaring war which... Isn't ideal. I mean I'm probably doing it wrong (I am a turnip, after all) but yeah... At least I get to see it work through your vids, still
pretty sure it still works. you need to be in germany faction and have germany called to arms. i think you need 1-2 days before the game realises, only then refuse
also immediately join the faction again btw, bc germany still have the wargoal on you, the trick is to be im the faction. refusing amshlauss kicks you out. if you dont answer that popup om the top of the screen quick, germany is gonna attack anyway

If you are an axis nation and need a navy, conquer Vichy because i think they inherit the french fleet, just don't forget to have some troops in Africa because they have some cores there

Concentrated seems to be the best as the trade off is bomb vulnerability it if your a major power just build planes but as a small nation you need the extra boost to production so dispersed just seems like a bad trade off no matter what
The strength of dispersed is in the efficiency retention actually. You keep more efficiency whenever you switch production. That's what makes it strong

If you’re looking to just make Austria annex German and prolly others and not Austria Hungary what I do is go fascist all the way down to the one that lets you make factions, improve relations with Italy and when Germany declares war invite Italy to faction Hungary and Romania will join faction if you play your cards right and defend until allies declare then just grind Germany down until u annex everything

Try austria in rt56, they get a pretty big focus tree with a whole separate tree dedicated to the Habsburgs
