I always HOPE that the main characters will have some kind of character arc so that these plotlines they set up will make sense down the road. ei: Rootspring matures into a cat that is more like Stemleaf, he gets over his crush for Bristlefrost and apologizes for the awkward positions he put her in, they later become close friends through the course of figuring out this Bramblestar problem, THEN we get some kind of love confession. But nooooo, silly me hoping for character growth vs characters being pulled along unwilling to just suddenly confess. >:/ Thank you for the Kataang comparison. Because it is EXACTLY the same in terms of their dynamic.
I feel like the reason why every she-cat has a forbidden relationship is because everyone is their uncle or second cousin once removed. Sadly the side affects are forced relationships.
Yeah but there's also a lot of male main characters who are doing just fine finding mates in their clans? I don't get how it seems to just be the she-cats. Aside from Rootspring, I guess, but his only age-range potential mate in his own clan is Turtlecrawl and she hates him so I don't blame him.

I feel like it should be no longer a rule for inter-clan romances to be forbidden. It doesn’t make sense anymore in the modern world of Warriors, while it still did make a bit of sense back in Series 1, where there was a lot of antagonism, distrust, and mystery within the clans about each other. They didn’t even have to leave their territory for their entire lives if they somehow got lucky enough to. But now at the lake, they are more socially integrated, heck they through several territories to get to the island for gatherings. They’re working together more, and they’re seen as another clan like ours. The way that the social stances have changed would really lend itself to abolishing the inter-clan romance taboo.
what if brislefrost just confessed so that she doesnt hurt rootspring like how she felt when stemleaf rejected her? As one comment pointed out, this makes sense in bristlefrost’s character and it would make the story much more interesting. Hopefully it would also help Rootspring mature more into his role as a protagonist.
i dont like rootbristle either. but it was hilarious to see rootpaw get into a bad situation and just blurt out "i have a crush on bristlefrost" and everyone go "oh! :) how cute! okay!" and forgive him for whatever he did. he was literally snooping on thunderclan territory and all he had to say was that he wanted to see bristle. wouldve been much funnier and fresh to see root get over his crush but tell bristle "listen i did have a crush on you, i dont anymore, but having a crush on you seems to be a really good excuse can i keep saying it?" and shes like "yah sure i guess" alsnkfs
there's a moment in one of the earlier books when Turtlepaw compliments Rootpaw and it's noted that "Rootpaw was surprised about how shy she sounded" or something like that - honestly I thought that was setting up Turtlepaw liking him and he would eventually get over Bristlefrost to hook up with her instead. Obviously that's thrown out the window now (and I don't think we need another "bully/bully victim" ship in this series) but that was still more of a hint towards someone liking Rootspring than literally ANYTHING with Bristlefrost, lol

ODSTSniper68 I think that’s almost certainly what TBC is trying to set up. A solid half of the warrior code is completely reasonable, but the other half exists seemingly purely to create drama. It’s made even better by the fact that Code of the Clans and the other prequel books reveals that most of the code was written because of a single, extremely specific problem that one cat had and therefore nobody should ever be allowed to be happy. And that’s almost certainly going to get brought up in TBC, considering the entire arc seems to be about figuring out what StarClan actually wants versus what’s just pointless religious tradition that actually has nothing to do with the real and existing magic ghost heaven.
When Bristlefrost admitted she liked Rootpaw I was so confused... she literally hadn't thought about him the entire book and he seems like a toddler compared to her.

Charlotte Wolf same here. I actually really like this ship, but I wish they admitted their feelings later in the books. Her revealing her crush on him was out of nowhere, especially dwelling on the fact that Stemleaf literally just DIED. But it’s still a good ship to me. It just felt a little rushed
Duck duck Goose goose at the same time, I think we should at least appreciate what the Erins are doing for us. They write at least 5 or more books for us each year. Of course there will be mistakes or bad writing. They have a lot on their shoulders
Romayor A There’s a whole TEAM of them though. If it was like a group of three people, I’d get it, but they have a story team, the editing team, and the writing team. They could’ve written in one or two scenes from Bristlefrost’s perspective where she shows attraction to him or likes him back. It wouldn’t have been masterpiece writing but it could’ve prevented the mess that BristleRoot is. It’s not hard to make a relationship at least make a little bit sense. Maybe she likes him because he’s the only cat who didn’t think of her as a traitor Maybe she likes him because he idolized her Maybe she likes him because he’s attractive See? It’s not that hard to come up with some reasonable explanations that they could’ve at least shown with two or four paragraphs in her chapters. But in the finished project, we don’t even know WHY she likes him.
IMO, Crookedstar and Willowbreeze have the best relationship growth in the entirety of Warriors. They were close since she was a kit, he saved her life like 3 times, they were always nice and respectful of each other, and they had a lot of real chemistry with each other. Plus, their whole relationship was handled in a more "show don't tell" fashion, so their relationship felt natural. It felt... believable. Much more believable than literally any pairing since.
No kidding! Crookedstar and Willowbreeze simply liked each other and worked well together, that was all. 90% of all Warriors’ couples we see are problematic or just REALLY forced. The only good ships I can think of are TalltailxJake, RavenpawxBarley, MothwingxLeafpool and I guess BrackenfurxSorreltail. Warriors’ couples are usually about as interesting as a dead fish.

Romances in the books always seem thrown in at the last second. Most of the decent romances I can think of aren’t explicitly canon, but are built off of genuine interactions cats have had (for example, jayxbriar). The reason these kinds of ships are so popular, I think, is because the usual standard for what dictates cats getting together in canon is so low that characters with genuine chemistry, if or if not they’re canon, look like much better romances in comparison
@Sugar OwO I agree. FirexSand is the only protagonist relationship that feels right and has development. All of the others have relationships that go to quickly/happen in one book.

My sister is in a relationship like that, she's someone who is mature and getting her life together and he is someone who is immature and complacent to stay that way and they fight whenever she mentions him trying to gain independence or responsibility. She has to constantly lower herself to his level or just concede on issues she shouldn't just to keep this relationship going. (And yes, I and everyone else, has told her how unhealthy and bad this relationship is. But she loves him and wants to make it work between them...for some reasons.)
Damn, this hit home. Recently escaped a long relationship like this, when I realised I was the one making effort which was abused and never reciprocated. I continued because I felt obligated to, since I had agreed to be his boyfriend - after all, relationships should always continue even if there's problems, right? (SPOILER: no.) Maybe your sister feels the same way about being with her boyfriend? Not to project anything, but it could be possible. Either way, she'll have to figure out what's good for herself on her own. I'm afraid you can't help a person who doesn't want to help themselves at that moment. Consider yourself a very great sibling for worrying about her though :) EDIT: reworded that "help" part
Yeah, I hate it when a tom thinks of a she-cat, most of the time the reason why he likes her is because she's pretty. I mean, yeah, the cat you like is gonna look pretty to you, but that's ALL. No 'I like you cuz of your kindness and stuff, not your face, although your face looks pretty nice.' sure, there's crowfeather, and brightheart likes cloudtail for his kindness, but there's not enough varied reasons why a cat likes another cat.
Well Rootspring mostly cared for Bristlefrost because she was incredibly "brave" or a "really good warrior" and never mentioned her looks until later. I'm just confused on how tf she likes him back
What about Alderheart and Velvet? He think a few times that she's pretty, but he mostly seemed to like her personnality, like how compassionate&responsible she is. They were also able to leave each other without drama, so that's another plus in my opinion.
Funnehsky Yeah, Rootspring’s attraction seemed mostly based on her abilities/saving his life until around Silent Thaw. I’m fine with his side of things. Bristlefrost just suddenly reciprocated out of nowhere 2/3rds into Veil of Shadows without any build up, which was more disappointing, especially since they’d had like a dozen interactions where Bristlefrost could have at least *started* to gain interest, but never did until the confession.
I would be completely fine with this ship if it was ACTUALLY DEVELOPED. Root springs feelings for her is fine but really? Why does Bristlefrost have feelings for him?!?

Kinda seems like if a kid had a huge crush on his babysitter that was several years older and a few years later the babysitter reciprocated. Not quite that bad as far as creepy age gap, more the vibe of the characters feels that way.

And I thought Alderheart liked Needletail that way too, but those feelings faded after and she liked Rain. Isn't Ashfur's case also an unrequited crush? There was also Speckle, a kittypet who liked Sol, (in the arc, Power of Three, either the second to last or last book), but it was one-sided.
This is my opinion of basically every ship: Squirrel and Bramble: both say they hate eachother in the second series but then become mates Hawkwing and Pebbleshine: Hawk hates her but then they fall in love anyways.
I think the best warrior romances are Sandstorm and Firestar, Leafpool and Crowfeather and CloudtailxBrightheart. I can see a little bit of development in their romances, especially leafpoolxcrowfeather even if they are a hated ship(for me, they are the best forbbiden relationship in the series). Those are the ones i can remember right now. Tbh, most of the romances in warriors are forced. And i see a little bit of silverxgray in frost and root. I mean, both toms fell on the river, then the she-cats saves them, and the tom falls in love. The difference is that silverxgrey is a likable ship.

Rootspring is like Aang, goofy and immature, except Aang at least accepts his role as the bridge between the living and spirit worlds. Bristlefrost is like a mixture of Katara and Zuko: she’s mature and responsible like Katara, but misguided and eager for acceptance like Zuko. They just don’t fit. They’re good for maybe a high school fling sorta thing, but long term? Nah. Their relationship simply wouldn’t last in the real world. But that’s Warriors for ya. Side note: I realized RootspringxBristlefrost reminds me a lot of my parents as well. My dad was like Rootspring, goofy, immature, and constantly padding after my mom in college asking her to date him. Bristlefrost is like my mom, mature, dedicated, responsible, and she somehow ended up dating and then marrying dad even though they aren’t really compatible. Guess how it ended? If you said divorce, you’re right. Separated when I was 1, and finalized the divorce when I was 4. So really that’s how this whole RootspringxBristlefrost relationship should go, but probably won’t because Warriors.
You have no idea how frustrated I'm with ships that had like two chapters of development on a whole series. For example, people really think Greystripe should be with Silverstream, a she cat he had a thing for like three months, on Starclan over Millie, the mate he had practically his whole life! And that's because I dont even care about greystripe and his family. And that stupid thing with spottedleaf dying again on the great battle so Firestar doesn't have to choose between a one week crush over his live time mate uuuuurgh the fact the authors did this makes me like firestar less! Bristle’s confession REALLY came out of nowhere and I agree that there was no development. But I can come up with some reasoning as to why she might like him. He still had hope that she was a good cat even when everyone thought she was a traitor (something that REALLY upset her), he often puts himself into a vulnerable position to do the right thing (this boy hates public speaking and ghost summoning), and he is the only other cat (other than shadowsight) who seems as dedicated as she does to bringing bramble back to his body. I agree that they don’t make sense together and I wish we could have seen Bristle just like... think about him at all. But I think she’s a lil messed up from all that she’s doing and maybe she feels like Root is the only one on the same page? Idk man, I know the editors don’t care this much.
If Bristlefrost becomes leader I'm actually quitting the series, ThunderClan hasn't had one leader that I havent hated with my entire soul since Bluestar
I would actually like for Bristlefrost to be a trainwreck of a leader. A too young, inexperienced cat forced to take the position after a disaster that snaps the clans, or at least thunderclan in half.
There's this one passage where Rootpaw's wonders if he even likes Bristlefrost anymore but then he remembers how she saved him and goes 'oh man, I love her, how could I forget the way she rescued me?' and it really highlighted the fact that he knows nothing about her
Warrior cats has no consistency in its writing sadly. Personalities change with no reason, and relationships will be close one chapter and the chapter right after they’ll be at each other throats. If Warriors had better writing, It’d be way better.
I really like that Squirrelflight is bold italic in the list of cats who should breakup with their boyfriend. I also really, really don't like Bristle/Root. It's everything wrong with Warrior Cat ships and mostly just seems to pander to the shipping drama part of the fandom that most fandoms just shove aside into the closet, hoping they never escape and bleed into the more reasonable sections of the fandom. Also headcanon for Hollyleaf is that she's AceAro and you can't change my mind. I don't know why everyone ships her with Cinderheart. Like I don't get it. I get you want that lesbian energy and rep but.....Did you just ignore the fact that Hollyleaf had NO interest in romance?

The only evidence pointing to Bristlefrost liking Rootspring besides her confession is when Rootpaw broke into Thunderclan to pass on Bramblestar's message to Squirrelflight, I'm pretty sure Bristlefrost was slightly disappointed that Rootpaw hadn't actually gone to see her. I would love this to happen like they did with Jake and Tallstar. Erins confirmed that they were in love, but couldn't write it like that because they would get banned from certain countries and loose a lot of money. Just imagine Shadow and Root developing a closer friendship, and then have some sort of a bromance. Root then would forget about Bristle and feel loved with Shadow (even if it isn't explicitly a relationship). That would be a lot better imo
Now, please don't hate me, but a thing that annoys me is the fact that whenever two cats have some chemistry, everyone will think that these two are in love. In the long run, it will just have no rivalries, no friendships as an outcome in the books. Only love interests... *But I respect your opinion*
One flaw: it’s normal for teens to develop crushes on other for seemingly no reason, obsess about them and look past their flaws. Rootspring’s crush on Bristlefrost is actually pretty realistic.

Root's affection for Bristle makes sense to me. It's a young kid thing: you admire someone so obviously you must love them and you make up things about being together. It doesn't make it true and eventually (one hopes) the kid grows out of the infatuation and matures. The "object" of affection has no obligation to return that. As in Bristle and Root's situation--he can 'love' her all he likes but eventually he will see her disinterest and that she isn't the cat he thinks she is. At least that's what should have happened in the books. With the writers making Bristle interested back in Root, maturation of Root's character does not happen and the relationship does feel entirely forced.
I have been saying this for SO LONG, I ship Shadowsight and Rootspring honestly because they seem cute and ACTUALLY SEEMED TO HAVE DEVELOPMENT also shadowsight gets a warm feeling while talking about him just saying

Stormcloud helped Sparkpelt to take care of her kits in Squirrelflight's Hope and visited her when Larksong died, so maybe something will happen between these two in the future

Lionpaw and heatherpaw was kinda interesting because of what they tried to do afterwards, with lion believing she betrayed him and all, but it kinda falls flat and is forgotten after they meet in long shadows.
I think the concept of a forbidden relationship should’ve been handled not only MUCH earlier, but should’ve been properly discussed beforehand. Because really the only excuse they’re giving is as to why it’s bad is... um... disloyalty? Something I actually liked about Heathertail and Lionblaze was that they didn’t work out in the end, and it felt more like a summertime romance than anything (or at least by Warriors’ standards.)
I don't think Feathertail x Crowpaw/feather was forced. She kept on being the only cat that was kind to him on their journey, while the others kept away from him due to his short temper and hissiness. Feathertail also helped him a lot, to go out hunting, comforting him when the others talked about his salt dream when he didn't, and I don't know, acting kindly towards him? Crowpaw probably felt as if he finally had someone who sympathized him, or got over his prickliness to get to know him, but hmm. Feathertail liking Crowpaw, an apprentice at the time, was kind of not good? It's a little bit like Bristlefrost and Rootpaw. Kind of? As for Leafpool and Crowfeather, yeah I have to admit, it came out of nowhere. They didn't have any interactions before, and she only noticed him when they arrived at their new territory and she saw him off when he left to explore. I mean, I like the ship and I found their interactions cute, but it came out of nowhere and it was rushed. Dovewing x Tigerheart as least went on a journey together and got to know each other. I don't think that was forced. For Yellowfang and Raggedstar.. didn't Raggedstar bully/mock/tease Yellowfang when they were young? I didn't really like their relationship. Too many ups and downs and Raggedstar never listens. That's all I remember from Yellowfang's Secret. It's weird to think Yellowfang had a mate. Bluestar and Oakheart was a bit surprising. Oakheart was just loitering in the river near the border and Bluefur crossed paths with him. What I think is that Oakheart had admired Bluefur from afar during gatherings and hope to catch her attention. I thought they were cute though and I definitely think they matched- personality wise.
... This may be my hyperfixation speaking but the way you describe their relationship reminds me of the love square in Miraculous Ladybug. Mature young female who grew up too fast and is focusing on not letting everything fall apart falls for the calm sophisticated mature guy while the immature childish one crushes on her and when the calm sophisticated one makes it known he's in love with somebody else she looks at the one who's already confessed multiple times so she knows he loves her. I mean it's obviously different mechanics but it just reminded me of it.
I think this fandom has the least shipping of any fandom that I’m in. It’s such a plot central series, rather than character central. Romance happens to forward the plot. It actually bothers me how not Character focused warrior cats is. There’s so much potential and it gets wasted all the time.
I am so sick of cross clan relationships and relationships in general in Warrior Cats. They're not handled well and they're awkward. I hated BristlexRoot the moment it was mentioned.
Socially Undead yeah they should really learn to write better romances or just stop trying to push them as a major plot point. It just creates bad character arcs and when they have kits, even MORE brainless characters who have no personality
Also we need actual, non protagonist friendships in warriors. I know it's the romance and shipping drama that sells, but when most cats in a clan, that grew up together and are supposed to be family, feel like coworkers at best there's an issue. Hell, give me another cross clan friendship! Shadow and Root may be kinda close to that, but they don't really feel that involved with each other since Rootspring started obsessing over Bristlefrost.

Hey Moonkitti! :3 I agree with you because her ‘confession’ was so.. out of it. (SPOILER ALERT) Heya confession, straight from the book was: Yes... Yes I do like you, Rootspring. It’s like she hesitated in the moments she said that. I much prefer ShadowRoot because it actually makes sense. They have actually had a relationship and are good ‘friends’ with each other. Bristlefrost just pushed him away until he confessed for the 20050th time. I really don’t think Rootspring loved her either but Erin Hunter and her crew is going with another forbidden love and the fact that Bristlefrost said: ‘Maybe.. things will be looser after all this is over?’ That means that the forbidden loaf is on and there is no turning back. Also no LGBTQ+ love will ever happen because some countries will stop supporting and selling the books.
Not even going to lie, i dont even really like Bristlefrost. I love Rootspring and Shadowsight, but Bristlefrost kinda acts like a brat Eg. When stemleaf rejected her, she acted like it was the end of the world, and she blamed spotfur, basically

I feel like there’s two ways this romance will go. 1. the writers will just be like skrew it the code needs to change and forbidden relations are now a legal under the new warrior code. Or 2. The writers decide ok, forbidden relations are against the code, no more forbidden relations, they’re only legal if you both live in the same clan. And by art of magik Rootspring yeets himself to Thurderclan just like Finleap. And now defecting you’re own clan to go live in another serves as a mean of allowing forbidden relations more than ever, NOT THAT IT DOESN’T ALREADY!
I have to agree- I was on a yt video about bad ships, (It was made before the broken code came out) And someone was venting about how they really hated Bristle x Root. I thought it was a silly non-cannon ship or someone just disliking a canon ship cuz they shipped a character with a different character ect. And me, Who hasnt read warriors for a while, Got the new series and was like "Hm. Lets get back into this series." I saw this video and saved it so I could watch it later when Bristle apparently "Confessed." And it just happened. Just a few mins ago I read those lines. 'Bristlefrost didn't reply for a moment, Instead bending her head to give her chest a few embarrassed licks. "Yes... Yes, I do have feeling for you. But what can we do about it? Nothing."' It was so out of the blue! And the moment I saw that, I though. "WHAT?! WHAT DO YOU MEAN??? YOU HAVENT THOUGHT OF ROOT FOR LIKE A YEAR- WHAT DO YOU MEANNN- DID THE WRITERS JUST WANT ANOTHER FORBIDDEN ROMANCE?? And like- I thought he got over her?? I mean Shadow x Root is more likely at this point! And Root is still pretty much a child- Bristle is a adult- Why- And like there was no sighs- Bristle I swear you lying to yourself." But really- It was so out of the blue- I hope the writers will make Bristle be like "Hey. I felt bad for you thats why I said I loved you too. I know how it feels to be rejected. It sucks. Fallen Leaves and Hollyleaf were confirmed on the official website, last I checked. But I quit the series a long time ago so idk maybe they’re not actually canon and it was just a mistake/inconsistency. Either way they still don’t have kits so that’s something. Makes me sad though. I’d like to see more she-cats who just aren’t interested in romance or having kits. Granted we already have a few like Mousefur and Russetfur, but I’d like to see more, yknow? And yeah forbidden romances are really overdone.
When I read the part about Bristle liking Root I was genuinely confused, she didn’t think about him at all during the book??? I’ve always thought of it as like a young boy crushing on a teenage girl who is like “lol ew” and I genuinely hoped that Rootspring would learn and move on and grow as a character, but no, instead we’re going with “if you have a crush on someone and they reject you over and over, just hold onto it because one day they might decide you’re tolerable” It really bothered me that Bristlefrost doesn’t think about him ONCE and there’s nothing that goes on in her head that justifies this Also why do Rootspring and Shadowsight have more chemistry and believability then the canon pairing smh The only good thing that can come out of this is we don’t have to read about any more dramatic forbidden romances and we can expand the gene pool a bit because honestly every young cat in ThunderClan is related at this point

I always HOPE that the main characters will have some kind of character arc so that these plotlines they set up will make sense down the road. ei: Rootspring matures into a cat that is more like Stemleaf, he gets over his crush for Bristlefrost and apologizes for the awkward positions he put her in, they later become close friends through the course of figuring out this Bramblestar problem, THEN we get some kind of love confession.
But nooooo, silly me hoping for character growth vs characters being pulled along unwilling to just suddenly confess. >:/

I feel like it should be no longer a rule for inter-clan romances to be forbidden. It doesn’t make sense anymore in the modern world of Warriors, while it still did make a bit of sense back in Series 1, where there was a lot of antagonism, distrust, and mystery within the clans about each other. They didn’t even have to leave their territory for their entire lives if they somehow got lucky enough to. But now at the lake, they are more socially integrated, heck they through several territories to get to the island for gatherings. They’re working together more, and they’re seen as another clan like ours. The way that the social stances have changed would really lend itself to abolishing the inter-clan romance taboo.

there's a moment in one of the earlier books when Turtlepaw compliments Rootpaw and it's noted that "Rootpaw was surprised about how shy she sounded" or something like that - honestly I thought that was setting up Turtlepaw liking him and he would eventually get over Bristlefrost to hook up with her instead. Obviously that's thrown out the window now (and I don't think we need another "bully/bully victim" ship in this series) but that was still more of a hint towards someone liking Rootspring than literally ANYTHING with Bristlefrost, lol

ODSTSniper68 I think that’s almost certainly what TBC is trying to set up. A solid half of the warrior code is completely reasonable, but the other half exists seemingly purely to create drama. It’s made even better by the fact that Code of the Clans and the other prequel books reveals that most of the code was written because of a single, extremely specific problem that one cat had and therefore nobody should ever be allowed to be happy. And that’s almost certainly going to get brought up in TBC, considering the entire arc seems to be about figuring out what StarClan actually wants versus what’s just pointless religious tradition that actually has nothing to do with the real and existing magic ghost heaven.

There’s a whole TEAM of them though. If it was like a group of three people, I’d get it, but they have a story team, the editing team, and the writing team. They could’ve written in one or two scenes from Bristlefrost’s perspective where she shows attraction to him or likes him back. It wouldn’t have been masterpiece writing but it could’ve prevented the mess that BristleRoot is. It’s not hard to make a relationship at least make a little bit sense.

See? It’s not that hard to come up with some reasonable explanations that they could’ve at least shown with two or four paragraphs in her chapters. But in the finished project, we don’t even know WHY she likes him.
IMO, Crookedstar and Willowbreeze have the best relationship growth in the entirety of Warriors. They were close since she was a kit, he saved her life like 3 times, they were always nice and respectful of each other, and they had a lot of real chemistry with each other. Plus, their whole relationship was handled in a more "show don't tell" fashion, so their relationship felt natural. It felt... believable. Much more believable than literally any pairing since.
No kidding! Crookedstar and Willowbreeze simply liked each other and worked well together, that was all. 90% of all Warriors’ couples we see are problematic or just REALLY forced.
The only good ships I can think of are TalltailxJake, RavenpawxBarley, MothwingxLeafpool and I guess BrackenfurxSorreltail.
Warriors’ couples are usually about as interesting as a dead fish.

Romances in the books always seem thrown in at the last second. Most of the decent romances I can think of aren’t explicitly canon, but are built off of genuine interactions cats have had (for example, jayxbriar). The reason these kinds of ships are so popular, I think, is because the usual standard for what dictates cats getting together in canon is so low that characters with genuine chemistry, if or if not they’re canon, look like much better romances in comparison

My sister is in a relationship like that, she's someone who is mature and getting her life together and he is someone who is immature and complacent to stay that way and they fight whenever she mentions him trying to gain independence or responsibility. She has to constantly lower herself to his level or just concede on issues she shouldn't just to keep this relationship going. (And yes, I and everyone else, has told her how unhealthy and bad this relationship is. But she loves him and wants to make it work between them...for some reasons.)

What about Alderheart and Velvet? He think a few times that she's pretty, but he mostly seemed to like her personnality, like how compassionate&responsible she is. They were also able to leave each other without drama, so that's another plus in my opinion.
Funnehsky Yeah, Rootspring’s attraction seemed mostly based on her abilities/saving his life until around Silent Thaw. I’m fine with his side of things. Bristlefrost just suddenly reciprocated out of nowhere 2/3rds into Veil of Shadows without any build up, which was more disappointing, especially since they’d had like a dozen interactions where Bristlefrost could have at least *started* to gain interest, but never did until the confession.
I would be completely fine with this ship if it was ACTUALLY DEVELOPED. Root springs feelings for her is fine but really? Why does Bristlefrost have feelings for him?!?

Hawkwing and Pebbleshine: Hawk hates her but then they fall in love anyways.
I think the best warrior romances are Sandstorm and Firestar, Leafpool and Crowfeather and CloudtailxBrightheart. I can see a little bit of development in their romances, especially leafpoolxcrowfeather even if they are a hated ship(for me, they are the best forbbiden relationship in the series). Those are the ones i can remember right now. Tbh, most of the romances in warriors are forced.
And i see a little bit of silverxgray in frost and root. I mean, both toms fell on the river, then the she-cats saves them, and the tom falls in love. The difference is that silverxgrey is a likable ship.

Rootspring is like Aang, goofy and immature, except Aang at least accepts his role as the bridge between the living and spirit worlds. Bristlefrost is like a mixture of Katara and Zuko: she’s mature and responsible like Katara, but misguided and eager for acceptance like Zuko. They just don’t fit. They’re good for maybe a high school fling sorta thing, but long term? Nah. Their relationship simply wouldn’t last in the real world. But that’s Warriors for ya. Side note: I realized RootspringxBristlefrost reminds me a lot of my parents as well. My dad was like Rootspring, goofy, immature, and constantly padding after my mom in college asking her to date him. Bristlefrost is like my mom, mature, dedicated, responsible, and she somehow ended up dating and then marrying dad even though they aren’t really compatible. Guess how it ended? If you said divorce, you’re right. Separated when I was 1, and finalized the divorce when I was 4. So really that’s how this whole RootspringxBristlefrost relationship should go, but probably won’t because Warriors.

For example, people really think Greystripe should be with Silverstream, a she cat he had a thing for like three months, on Starclan over Millie, the mate he had practically his whole life! Bristle’s confession REALLY came out of nowhere and I agree that there was no development. But I can come up with some reasoning as to why she might like him. He still had hope that she was a good cat even when everyone thought she was a traitor (something that REALLY upset her), he often puts himself into a vulnerable position to do the right thing (this boy hates public speaking and ghost summoning), and he is the only other cat (other than shadowsight) who seems as dedicated as she does to bringing bramble back to his body. I agree that they don’t make sense together and I wish we could have seen Bristle just like... think about him at all. But I think she’s a lil messed up from all that she’s doing and maybe she feels like Root is the only one on the same page? Idk man, I know the editors don’t care this much.
Instead of Rootspring x Bristlefrost, let’s make Bristlefrost leader and Shadowsight x Rootspring canon

There's this one passage where Rootpaw's wonders if he even likes Bristlefrost anymore but then he remembers how she saved him and goes 'oh man, I love her, how could I forget the way she rescued me?' and it really highlighted the fact that he knows nothing about her
Warrior cats has no consistency in its writing sadly. Personalities change with no reason, and relationships will be close one chapter and the chapter right after they’ll be at each other throats. If Warriors had better writing, It’d be way better.

I also really, really don't like Bristle/Root. It's everything wrong with Warrior Cat ships and mostly just seems to pander to the shipping drama part of the fandom that most fandoms just shove aside into the closet, hoping they never escape and bleed into the more reasonable sections of the fandom. Also headcanon for Hollyleaf is that she's AceAro and you can't change my mind. I don't know why everyone ships her with Cinderheart. Like I don't get it. I get you want that lesbian energy and rep but.....Did you just ignore the fact that Hollyleaf had NO interest in romance?

The only evidence pointing to Bristlefrost liking Rootspring besides her confession is when Rootpaw broke into Thunderclan to pass on Bramblestar's message to Squirrelflight, I'm pretty sure Bristlefrost was slightly disappointed that Rootpaw hadn't actually gone to see her. I might be wrong, though.

I would love this to happen like they did with Jake and Tallstar. Erins confirmed that they were in love, but couldn't write it like that because they would get banned from certain countries and loose a lot of money.
Just imagine Shadow and Root developing a closer friendship, and then have some sort of a bromance. Root then would forget about Bristle and feel loved with Shadow (even if it isn't explicitly a relationship). That would be a lot better imo

One flaw: it’s normal for teens to develop crushes on other for seemingly no reason, obsess about them and look past their flaws. Rootspring’s crush on Bristlefrost is actually pretty realistic.

Root's affection for Bristle makes sense to me. It's a young kid thing: you admire someone so obviously you must love them and you make up things about being together. It doesn't make it true and eventually (one hopes) the kid grows out of the infatuation and matures. The "object" of affection has no obligation to return that. As in Bristle and Root's situation--he can 'love' her all he likes but eventually he will see her disinterest and that she isn't the cat he thinks she is. At least that's what should have happened in the books.
With the writers making Bristle interested back in Root, maturation of Root's character does not happen and the relationship does feel entirely forced.
I love how on the break up list, Squirrelflight is bolder than the rest of them.

Stormcloud helped Sparkpelt to take care of her kits in Squirrelflight's Hope and visited her when Larksong died, so maybe something will happen between these two in the future

I hate how the authors are always trying to force the main characters into a forbidden relationship or something like that
Ex: lionpaw x heatherpaw, leafpool x crowfeather, feathertail x crowfeather, fireheart x spottedleaf, graystripe x silverstream, dovewing x tigerheart, yellowfang x raggedstar, bristlefrost x rootspring
Lionpaw and heatherpaw was kinda interesting because of what they tried to do afterwards, with lion believing she betrayed him and all, but it kinda falls flat and is forgotten after they meet in long shadows.
I think the concept of a forbidden relationship should’ve been handled not only MUCH earlier, but should’ve been properly discussed beforehand. Because really the only excuse they’re giving is as to why it’s bad is... um... disloyalty?
Something I actually liked about Heathertail and Lionblaze was that they didn’t work out in the end, and it felt more like a summertime romance than anything (or at least by Warriors’ standards.)

I don't think Feathertail x Crowpaw/feather was forced. She kept on being the only cat that was kind to him on their journey, while the others kept away from him due to his short temper and hissiness. Feathertail also helped him a lot, to go out hunting, comforting him when the others talked about his salt dream when he didn't, and I don't know, acting kindly towards him? Crowpaw probably felt as if he finally had someone who sympathized him, or got over his prickliness to get to know him, but hmm. Feathertail liking Crowpaw, an apprentice at the time, was kind of not good? It's a little bit like Bristlefrost and Rootpaw. Kind of?
As for Leafpool and Crowfeather, yeah I have to admit, it came out of nowhere. They didn't have any interactions before, and she only noticed him when they arrived at their new territory and she saw him off when he left to explore. I mean, I like the ship and I found their interactions cute, but it came out of nowhere and it was rushed.
Dovewing x Tigerheart as least went on a journey together and got to know each other. I don't think that was forced.
For Yellowfang and Raggedstar.. didn't Raggedstar bully/mock/tease Yellowfang when they were young? I didn't really like their relationship. Too many ups and downs and Raggedstar never listens. That's all I remember from Yellowfang's Secret. It's weird to think Yellowfang had a mate.
Bluestar and Oakheart was a bit surprising. Oakheart was just loitering in the river near the border and Bluefur crossed paths with him. What I think is that Oakheart had admired Bluefur from afar during gatherings and hope to catch her attention. I thought they were cute though and I definitely think they matched- personality wise.

... This may be my hyperfixation speaking but the way you describe their relationship reminds me of the love square in Miraculous Ladybug. Mature young female who grew up too fast and is focusing on not letting everything fall apart falls for the calm sophisticated mature guy while the immature childish one crushes on her and when the calm sophisticated one makes it known he's in love with somebody else she looks at the one who's already confessed multiple times so she knows he loves her.
I mean it's obviously different mechanics but it just reminded me of it.
I think this fandom has the least shipping of any fandom that I’m in. It’s such a plot central series, rather than character central. Romance happens to forward the plot. It actually bothers me how not Character focused warrior cats is. There’s so much potential and it gets wasted all the time.

I am so sick of cross clan relationships and relationships in general in Warrior Cats. They're not handled well and they're awkward. I hated BristlexRoot the moment it was mentioned.
Socially Undead yeah they should really learn to write better romances or just stop trying to push them as a major plot point. It just creates bad character arcs and when they have kits, even MORE brainless characters who have no personality
Also we need actual, non protagonist friendships in warriors. I know it's the romance and shipping drama that sells, but when most cats in a clan, that grew up together and are supposed to be family, feel like coworkers at best there's an issue. Hell, give me another cross clan friendship! Shadow and Root may be kinda close to that, but they don't really feel that involved with each other since Rootspring started obsessing over Bristlefrost.

Either some of the she-cats from this list got a mate and kits and forgot about their friends, or didn't appear in the books that often

It’s like she hesitated in the moments she said that. I much prefer ShadowRoot because it actually makes sense. They have actually had a relationship and are good ‘friends’ with each other. Bristlefrost just pushed him away until he confessed for the 20050th time. I really don’t think Rootspring loved her either but Erin Hunter and her crew is going with another forbidden love and the fact that Bristlefrost said: ‘Maybe.. things will be looser after all this is over?’ That means that the forbidden loaf is on and there is no turning back. Also no LGBTQ+ love will ever happen because some countries will stop supporting and selling the books.
Not even going to lie, i dont even really like Bristlefrost. I love Rootspring and Shadowsight, but Bristlefrost kinda acts like a brat

I feel like there’s two ways this romance will go. 1. the writers will just be like skrew it the code needs to change and forbidden relations are now a legal under the new warrior code. Or 2. The writers decide ok, forbidden relations are against the code, no more forbidden relations, they’re only legal if you both live in the same clan. And by art of magik Rootspring yeets himself to Thurderclan just like Finleap. And now defecting you’re own clan to go live in another serves as a mean of allowing forbidden relations more than ever, NOT THAT IT DOESN’T ALREADY!

And someone was venting about how they really hated Bristle x Root. I thought it was a silly non-cannon ship or someone just disliking a canon ship cuz they shipped a character with a different character ect.
And me, Who hasnt read warriors for a while, Got the new series and was like "Hm. Lets get back into this series."
I saw this video and saved it so I could watch it later when Bristle apparently "Confessed." And it just happened. Just a few mins ago I read those lines.
'Bristlefrost didn't reply for a moment, Instead bending her head to give her chest a few embarrassed licks. "Yes... Yes, I do have feeling for you. But what can we do about it? Nothing."'
It was so out of the blue! And the moment I saw that, I though.
"WHAT?! WHAT DO YOU MEAN??? YOU HAVENT THOUGHT OF ROOT FOR LIKE A YEAR- WHAT DO YOU MEANNN- DID THE WRITERS JUST WANT ANOTHER FORBIDDEN ROMANCE?? And like- I thought he got over her?? I mean Shadow x Root is more likely at this point! And Root is still pretty much a child- Bristle is a adult- Why- And like there was no sighs- Bristle I swear you lying to yourself."
But really- It was so out of the blue- I hope the writers will make Bristle be like "Hey. I felt bad for you thats why I said I loved you too. I know how it feels to be rejected. It sucks. But I dont love you." And get over with it.

Fallen Leaves and Hollyleaf were confirmed on the official website, last I checked. But I quit the series a long time ago so idk maybe they’re not actually canon and it was just a mistake/inconsistency. Either way they still don’t have kits so that’s something.
Makes me sad though. I’d like to see more she-cats who just aren’t interested in romance or having kits. Granted we already have a few like Mousefur and Russetfur, but I’d like to see more, yknow?

When I read the part about Bristle liking Root I was genuinely confused, she didn’t think about him at all during the book??? I’ve always thought of it as like a young boy crushing on a teenage girl who is like “lol ew” and I genuinely hoped that Rootspring would learn and move on and grow as a character, but no, instead we’re going with “if you have a crush on someone and they reject you over and over, just hold onto it because one day they might decide you’re tolerable”
It really bothered me that Bristlefrost doesn’t think about him ONCE and there’s nothing that goes on in her head that justifies this

The only good thing that can come out of this is we don’t have to read about any more dramatic forbidden romances and we can expand the gene pool a bit because honestly every young cat in ThunderClan is related at this point
