When you come to visit the Basque Country, you have to make a mandatory stop in Mundaka, a very small but a world famous village for the surfing community. Here you can find the greatest left wave in Europe and it has been on numerous occasions the host of the world championship. So if you come to the Basque Country, Mundaka is a must!
Mundaka is a town that does not reach the 2,000 inhabitants but has all the charm of Basque fishing villages. With its church, its pelota court, the port. That is a village that goes unnoticed on the map, if it were not for these waves. Mundaka is world famous for surfing. It’s proud of having the greatest left wave in Europe, which each year attracts thousands of surfers from all continents. World championships have been hosted here, and these waters have been a witness of legendary duels by the greatest surfers in history.
As I have come to Mundaka, I decided to emulate these gods of water and throw myself to surf. Well, if we consider that today there are no waves and I can’t surf, it's fine for me take a ride on paddle surfing by the Urdaibai estuary. In addition to huge waves, Mundaka also has Urdaibai, an estuary formed by the river Oca meeting with the Bay of Biscay, with such ecological richness that in 1984 is was declared by the UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. And, as you are seeing today, you can enjoy this natural wonder practicing paddle surfing.

Ruben, si vuelves al Pais Vasco te recomiendo algo espectacular y que muy pocos turistas vienen a ver; el nacimiento del Nervión (Ria de Bilbao en su curso final), tiene la cascada mas alta de la Península Ibérica y su mirador es realmente IMPRESIONANTE.

Urdaibai es desde Izaro hasta Gernika :v. Mundaka se encuentra justo al final. No puedes decir que Urdaibai está en Mundaka :v
