Those TopKicks and Kodiaks that have the "FUEL INJECTION" badge on them will have the 6.0L or 7.0L gas V-8s. Those that use an Allison automatic transmission will also have either one of those V-8s, but the badging will say "Allison Automatic."
I have a 3116 and it’s all mechanical and has no electric lift pump . The only thing it has that’s electric is the fuel shut of solenoid and you have to have all kinds of special tool to set the fuel injector rack .
You probably have some pinhole leaks on the fuel circuit that are allowing it to loose prime... if the fuel gallery is full of fuel it should fire on the first bump...
My 3116 would struggle to kick over and had 2 keep starting till the air got up to 90-psi before it would stay running. Would take longer 2 build each time to fire up and now finally just only cranks and doesn't start at all. Not sure if its the pump, fuel lines pulling air or air pressure issue but i opened the lines on the side of the engine mounted pump and it was dry as a bone. Any suggestions?
They are actually quite good. I have a generator set with a 3116 in it. Just change the fluids and filters regularly, and do periodic top end tuneups, and a Cat 3116 will give you many years or miles of reliable service.
My dad works for a Lumberyard and they a 93 cat GMC topkick she was a beast, she was sold because of newer atomics

I rode a '98 Topkick CV200 with the 3126, they have a great sound.
Would you recomend this engine with auto tranny
Carlos Jackson damn yes. I am a junior firefighter and our tanker has it and the allison automatic

I changed the electric fuel pump on it and it helped immensely

Yes
Do you need a CDL for these?...I'm in the United States

Try the Fuel Pump... it should be a electric one just under the step
Put fuel in the tank, make sure fuel filter is clean.
Do a fuel volume/pressure test(s), THEN if needed, replace the fuel pump
So it sounds like maybe Cat 3116s don't suck after all...

They are ok..but try finding someone with tools or know how to tune them
Cruise control on it
put a check valve in front of the tank on the supply line then you wont loose prime and struggle to start it
It seems to suck air if you put in over a half tank of fuel
Yeah runs great...... 😳
Fuel pump
Must be from way upt dur nort eh?
Yup
