I couldn't have done it without you. Steering lock part jammed. Ebay about £17 and all good. One comment, when I reassembled the airbag etc. I got a steering wheel warning light in red with ignition and orange when engine started. I took the wheel off again and checked, nothing wrong so put it back together, still the light. I went for a test drive and it went off a soon as I drove, it stayed off ever since so I don't know what that was all about.
Hi, it is only because you had the battery disconnected, but the electronic power steering re-initialised as soon as you took it for a first drive and all the conditions have been met. You may have some fault codes stored in various systems, but they appear as "historic" and don't affect the driving.
Brilliant video mine has got same problem garage say it's key barrell they've ordered a coded one from vw and I know it's not going to cure fault because it's the steering lock that's faulty they have had car for a month now its doing my head in waiting.
Good video but before l put all those parts back over the two snap off bolts, l would have taken a hack saw and slit a notch right down the center of each bolt so as to use a flat head screwdriver to remove them-if there's a next time.
@@CarsExposed That's understandable and yet even when removing these bolts- you can also use a small hand held electric or cordless saw and notch them down the center and screwdriver them off but the way l got mine off was by using your method.
9:10 I cannot align the hole and the dot marking, because my key wont go to ignition/ON , it is stuck, so can I force the key with something, so that the dot and hole would align? I can get the key out now, but not to ON position. Someone told that I should use hammer and screwdriver.. I just would save ton of time and frustration if I dont have to take the whole streering wheel off.. I have the spare lock already
two people are already asking but ill ask too what to do if you cant line the holes as key dont want to go in ON position anymore im asking as i try to force it with the key but i broke it lucky i got second but still not sure what to do
ive send the car to a mechanic i struggle with the cylinder but my broken part is the barrel so if he cant open it he will cut/ brake the barrel for more easy and than transfer the cylinder to the barrel together with the seitch and install i think thats also an solution i hope its helps
I got the same skoda superb but the key sometimes lock the car sometimes not but the steering wheel doesn’t lock to do you think that’s the problem why car doesn’t lock?? Thanks
Hi, I am having the same issue with my 2012 Skoda superb. The ignition barrel jammed. I ordered new programmed one from Skoda, do I need to order lock as well or can use the same one ?? Thanks
Nice video mate. I recently replaced the ignition switch on an vw polo 2012 1.2 tdi. I first thought that the inmobbilisor antenna was the problem were you stick youre key in. So i did some research and found out that it was the ignition switch (luckely). The dealer sad to me that the inmobbilisor antenna needs to be programmed witch i found a litle hard to believe because it just is a antenna. I didn't notice you saying somthing about that. So does the key switch (inmobbilisor antenna) need to be programmed by the dealer?
I have a similar problem with my 2005 A3 SE, only my PRNDS indicators also flash, when it was diagnosed it came up as an ignition barrel fault (and looking online its not just me thats got the PRNDS symptom and a new barrel rectifies the fault), but will I need to get a new set of car keys once thats been repaired or will my current keys still work fine?
If you had to change the tumbler part getting one from a breaker yard you will need new keys l, alternatively you can buy from a dealer giving your key code and your original key will work on 👍👍👍
Very Clear video, thanks VM. I had the same problem with my Golf but I repaired the problem without removing the steering or dead bolts. I removed the broken steering lock by drilling a hole through the aluminium barrel housing. It looks easier on this Skoda though as there's less around this area. I did have to remove the ignition 'innards' here but the ignition looks exactly the same - czcams.com/video/R4npTUg5DOg/video.html
You are very clever repairman thank you
I couldn't have done it without you.

Thanks for a really useful vid. 331k miles on that Skoda! Is it still running 5 years later?
Best explanation. thanks for sharing
tataieish no worries thanks for watching !!!👍
Thank you for sharing!
LM Auto Repairs pleasure thanks for watching
Mine wont turn past point 1. Is it the mechanics that have failed ? If so can the key bit be used on the new housing?
Good video but before l put all those parts back over the two snap off bolts, l would have taken a hack saw and slit a notch right down the center of each bolt so as to use a flat head screwdriver to remove them-if there's a next time.
chat Thats a good shout but i find quite easy to remove it and didn’t want to make easier to the wrong people ...

Excellent instructional video no bullshit 🤙
Very good expirt
Very helpful video i am in same problem tell me that we have to update the software for key or not?
Super helpful video. THANKS.
my key doesnt rotate, so i cant align the "holes" any advise ?
Sorry for a late reply, but having the same issue. Apparently you need a new barrel and stock.
Were you able to use the same key ? And where did you buy the barrel ?
Average mechanic yes the same key, the only new parts were the switch and cylinder... 👍
@@CarsExposed sweet thanks.
@@CarsExposed At 10:34 it looks like you replaced the barrel as well? So to do this fix you need a new switch, cylinder and barrel?
I have same problem with Skoda we changed barrel with new key. Skoda starts for few seconds and switch off with new key any help please?
If you are using a new key you have to swap the immobiliser chip that is inside the original key .

Can't U remove the barrel with stripping the whole steering wheel?... Using the wire?
Emmanuel Mkabane you should be able too 👍
two people are already asking but ill ask too
what to do if you cant line the holes as key dont want to go in ON position anymore
im asking as i try to force it with the key but i broke it lucky i got second but still not sure what to do
Sorry bud I don’t really have an answers to that , you just have to keep trying it’s a bit fiddly but just try different things to turn it ...
ive send the car to a mechanic

I don’t believe the antenna needs to be programmed the only thing that needs to be programmed is the key if you replace the immobiliser chip
@@CarsExposed so if the key switch is the only thing that has to be replaced nothing should be programmed?
Ilias Zaagougui Thats right 👍
Cheers mate
And if you're replacing the key switch, I assume that also means you're replacing the key itself?
Thank you
You wouldn't have the partnumbers for the barrel and the stock?

Tom Morris apologies about the delay 🙌
Friend, my power switch was disassembled and I don't know how to assemble it as it was, could you make a video how are the internal parts going?
i don't have any lock with me at the moment 👍
What tool did you use extension to remove those top two bolts holding the cylinder lock?
i believe i used a screw driver to turn the security bolts
Hi, How does the steering wheel not lock if the car is removed? is it because you disconnected the battery?
awh28 the steering wheel lock is mechanical so you can operate the lock with the key ...
Cars Exposed I can’t get the key to go round I can take the key in and out but cannot twist
My car skoda superb screen fluctuates sometime so it’s failure in screen or in ignition switch because sometimes it feels like it’s because of the key
How to know that, ignition switch embulizer is working or not..
Is this same to octavia 2009 !! Thanks
I believe it’s a little bit different but I’m not sure
533тыс км ого😁
у меня сломалось на 295тыс км
Them bolts on top are a bastard to remove. I don’t know why that type is used???
