  • Helga Ragnarsdóttir and I have been working on some new music based on the poetry of Guðfinna Jónsdóttir, and during the UK lockdown we recorded one of them. The poem is about Hulda, Guðfinna's sister, who died in her early twenties from tuberculosis, shortly after getting engaged. Guðfinna was never engaged herself, but grew close to her sister’s fiancé, and the last line in the second verse says “they both were to love the same man”. The last verse starts “she lasted [a short time], the one that was graced with luck”, which may refer to Hulda's luck in love. The poem speaks about the sisters being very close, and sharing one soul.

Thank you, that's very kind! Helga is a very forgiving singer to write for so it was a pleasure to record with her! 😀
