The Difference Between A Bodhisattva And A Normal Person

  • The true Bodhisattva has cultivated their minds to such a degree that they have realised the nature of reality.
But the Bodhisattva’s heroic attainment does not finish there.
Their achievement of a profound understanding of the nature of reality merely lays the ground for what is the most heroic and most important of the Bodhisattva’s accomplishments …
That is the awakening of a deep, enduring, and profoundly encompassing compassion.
Now to truly begin to understand the heroic attainment of the Bodhisattva we need to explore exactly what it is they have accomplished.
There are an enormous number of schools and teachings in Tibetan Buddhism.
Thus, there are many, many different opinions and teachings on how to best cultivate the mind to achieve the ultimate goal of Tibetan Buddhism.
However, of the goal itself, there is no argument.
The goal of cultivating the mind in Tibetan Buddhism is:
The radical insight into the nature of self and reality.

    Asangoham,
My hats off to you sir. I stumbled on your channel a while ago, and ever since I have been absolutely astounded by the quality of your videos. The information you provide is clear, concise and correct. Most of all I am impressed with the fact that you include so many different angles whenever you discuss a topic, comparing things with various traditions such as the comparison to Western philosophy in this video. Not to mention that you were so alert to include a largely unrecognised female genius when you were discussing intellectual heroes.
You're a man to my heart! We both seem to share a deep interest in philosophy and comparative religion, I bow to you from the Netherlands. Thank you for doing all this work, videos like these truly pave the way to a more peaceful, happier tomorrow. I wish everyone on earth would come to terms with each other and worship the ultimate nature of reality in its infinite manifestations. Your channel helps to do just that. Have a great day :)

Thank you for this, from the depth of me, thank you.
Last night, I dreamed a woman telling me that I have a calling. Specifically it involved bringing flowers to the cemetery where I live like I had promised when I moved to this new neighborhood about a month ago, because the living are not the only ones who need blessings and guidance from suffering, they deceased do too, especially as they transition. But I woke up feeling different and then I stumbled on this video....
This video reminds me of the beginning of my journey when I awakened to physically see suffering in people, it is like a strong invisible glow, and hard to explain. It happened when I was trying to heal myself that I simultaneously awakened to a love and to be a witness to the suffering of others. For years now, I absorb their suffering, from strangers, from loved ones, animals, and plants, ones who have passed; sometimes it's a lot and because I do not take anything in exchange, pursuing only my grad degree in education to work as a teacher, all this clarity feels confusing at times.
But this video, because I cannot tangibly reach out to anyone who understands, who can respond with actual human conversation, was a reminder of the Bodhisattva vows that I found early on in my journey. I was not initiated by any monk or guru, but I just placed those vows in my heart. And even the Tibetan and mention of Vajrayana Buddhism, is a nod to my next step to study the Tibetan language as someone who works to preserve endangered languages.
So yes, thank you for these affirmations, I am so glad you guide me through these channels, continue to guide me through other ones as well ;)

I am very grateful 🙏 I once heard Bodhisattva described as having one foot in the divine, but instead of taking the other step they come back to help other souls also find there ways to the devine. They come back knowing that they will experience all of the Earhly imperfections, and suffering but they have so much compassion for their fellow humans that they just can't help but stay and help others. They really are true heroes, and they go through life without most people realizing that they are the very best types of heroes.

In emptiness one realizes the fullness of awareness, and from this awareness in turn arises the great compassion.
    All three go together.
    Awareness
    Emptiness
    Awareness
    Compassion
Awareness is the connecting bridge between the question of how one goes from emptiness to compassion.
Though in reality, they are all three- One.

Ancient Western philosophy took eastern philosophy further. Realizing what the East realized, the West accepted their material body. Learning to master the material universe.

"Modern eastern society is as materialistic as the west." Thats due to the infiltration of capitalism. First it infected the west and now the east. Both are victims. Infact it's our primal nature to satisfy desires. But what the east teaches is to transcend them. To transcend and train the mind to see the illusory nature of the world while being in the world.
That doesn't mean to escape the matrix and go to a mountain. Infact, ancient eastern philosophy encourages us to be in the world and work for the betterment of others. But before that, to work on oneself. There are many ways to it.

You can't just understand about the nature of reality by sitting under a tree and closing your eyes.

Clearly, that's your limited biased opinion. And most people who watch such videos don't feel that way.

Well me friend, I've been studying philosophy for the past 6 years ( not as a student but more because I'm passionate )
I discovered Zen 2 years ago and I practiced and studied it because as a philosophy fanboy I was simply curious about it.
Then I discovered Tibetan Buddhism more recently and there's one thing astonishing.
It completes so well what philosophers have said in the past. Even better, it talks about stuff that we ( today ) put in quantum physics.
So I'm not sure that Boddhisatvas did understand nothing. Tho, though my studies ( cause I'm passionate and just curious about it ), I can tell they have found some fundamental stuff that are quite amazing.
Oh and one thing sir to be sure you don't misunderstand Who is the one you said not to be able to sit under a tree meditate and discover anything...
He first was a prince of India who got the best teachers the king could find him, he was quite talented at anything he'd do whatever the subject ( he even was trained for war, which is fun in a way knowing how his preaching went way after ).
Then he studied with all Yogis he crossed path with being more talented than any of them since he's always been talented as *uck 😂, practiced extreme asceticism such as eating only one grain of rice for a year ( I may say something wrong, I think it was 3 years ) and after all that, decided he'd either die under the tree or find the truth.
That is how dedicated this man was to understand how things and reality works to help all beings to get out of suffering.
I personally don't think any philosopher of any time, have been as much dedicated as Siddartha Gautama ( the Bouddha ) was.
And with all the respect I have for every philosophers I've read, I can say they've all done tremendously well compared to the majority of the people of their time and helped humanity a whole big lot.
But what Buddha did, surely is so much more than they did.
Now Imma watch the bideo to find out what made you so mad in what they said 😂

Well, I now understand why you made such comment.
If I were to be a person discovering bouddhism with such kind of video, I'd just think Bouddhism is just non-sense.
_First point, the author of the video has still a long way to go to understand what he's talking about in the video ( he has understood a part, which is great, but from the way he tells the tale, it's still one part, which is great ).
_Second point, for a newcomer, that is way too much. Words that would need books to be understood are just thrown like that. This is clearly a video that only someone who as already been studying would be interested into watching.
_Last and third point, explanations are a bit chaotic even for the one who study and practice 😂
So please, if you may reconsider your view about buddhism and find out by yourself if this is a philosophy ( not a religion, it has never been one ) worth your time.
To be completely honest with you, teaching bouddhism can only be done by lamas which would be equivalent to say : to be taught philosophy or quantum physics, the teacher must be certified and be a fully accomplished student even before engaging into the path that would give the authorization to teach.
That was all for me, thanks for reading ( if you did :3 / if not, that was still a pleasant conversation to have with myself hell yeah 😂😂😂 )

Himanshu Khichar, a limited mindset who has shutted his mind in his self made comfort zone and doesn't want to believe in the fact that there can be something outside his knowledge and experiences. The world doesn't revolve around your mortal opinions Himanshu. Truth hurts.

If you want to change the external world, science is the way to go. If you want to change the internal world and find peace, which is not something changing the external world can ever give you, Buddhism is THE way. One questions what the meaning of life should be. Is it to build bigger and better skyscrapers to raise people into the sky while their internal state plummets into suicidal depression? Suicide rate is rising 4% year over year.
