Brown Sugar Too Bitter For Me is a poignant tale of love, devotion and social injustice on a sugar plantation in Guyana. For Promotional Use Only -- Not For Resale
Great movie ... Love from India . As an Indian living in India , I feel really ingorant .I did not know that my brothers and sisters are living in Guyana. i m going to spread this movie.
Thank you very much 🙏 Please also share my other ones "Forgotten Promise" and "A Jasmine for a Gardener". Would be happy for my brothers and sisters in India to see those as well. God bless🌷🙏💗
About 160 years ago Indians where taken from India in ships... some ended up in Guyana and some ended up in South Africa... my ancestors where slaves in the cane fields I didn’t know that your ancestors where slaves as well...
Great brother,or sister , you are doing so, .These movies deserve international acclaim but sadly, people of colour in smaller countries like Guyana don't seem to get the recognition they deserve.
This movie was truly emotional. I enjoyed the rich history presented with reference to the sugarcane fields. Cried in the end....the actors really portrayed the true bond of family life....live, work together, stand with each other in times of pain and struggle, encourage each other despite despair, believe in God and love even in death.......great job!
My mother is from Guyana and all our holidays were spent in Guyana. This movie just brought all the sweet memories back. 😊💖 I do miss the Guyana from my childhood
Although this movie is not to international or professional standards it has brought tears to my eyes because i know the facts, it's where i came from and i now know how my dad felt
A beautiful movie capturing real life experience of the people working in the sugar plantation, living the best way they know how, give their children education to develop skills so they can have a better life and break free from the trauma experience of colonialism. Movie did made me cry..brought so much memories growing up in guyana in a village that had sugar plantation. I now see why most cane cutters drink.. Rum drinking to a drunken state comes from pain and lack of knowledge of God.
Great job. I put this on for my Nani and my parents and they really loved it. They said it brought back so many memories with the beautiful guyana scenes . Thank you for sharing.
I watched this movie from beginning to end and felt the pain and anguish of being trapped in a social class. And, the twists in faith - unfortunately, such is life!
looking from suriname love this movie somuch my mom from guyana i have uncle working at blairmont estate he always tell about his work and everything he say his work as cane cutter i sa it in this movie good movie . respect for u sir
So emotional, I could not hold back the tears. It reminded me in the days pa pa was working in sugar cane fields.Same lifestyle, same setting. Acting was very professional , certainly like an old Indian movie
Just a white Canadian here, with barely any knowledge of Guyana or Indo-Caribbean people : I had a lot of fun! It seems to be made with a lot of heart.

I watched this film again and honestly its a really powerful storyline, especially considering the budget they had to work with, the innocence, loyalty and purity of Leela really stuns one and is a well presented theme throughout, the Ganesh bhajan serves as a very poignant foreshadowing of the purity yet bad times to come, in line with the continuous struggle of the poor "Andeh ko ankh det, nirbhan ko maya" give eyesight to the blind and riches to the poor" the message that was needed for this hardship where a woman born on plantations optimistically saw the sugar canes of slavery as waves in the ocean where they had the potential to be bitter brown sugar or in contrast the sweetest of sugar, often pagan religions such as Hinduism etc. are so misunderstood yet if only they heard the content of the prayers theyre so pure and innocent only wishing good on all, the fact Leela gave her only lifelong posessions, her bangles, to others shows her selflessness - she lived a life of honesty and sacrifices to others be it employment rights or fairness, the multi cultural, multi ethnic integrated culture of Guyana is very well showcased, showing a innovative blend, the African Carribean drums heard prominently powering through the most Indian of Indian lyrics, the song Guyana babu, where an actor of Dougla heritage stands up in awe of the values of education the Indian and Africans bestowed upon him only to be received with the prideful eyes of his Indian cane cutter parents and local Guyanese African villagemen - in times of racism, negativity, deceit, this film celebrates purity, innocence and loyalty.
@@mahadeoshivraj8591 Thank you for making this film, it would take a very intelligent person who has studied literature to understand this film, I also noticed at the end Leela's eyesight returns for her to see her sons for a last time, it proves a pure individual will always have their prayers heard by God eventually.
I almost agree with everything you mentioned Zoro, but it's disrespectful to deem Hinuism as a pagan religion. Hinduism spoke of kindness, sacrifice, wealth, dignity, humility,,healing, forgiveness, and compassion just like Christanity, Islam, and other religions..Please remember, Hinduism is the first religion before Christianity and Islam. But yes thank you for the values and purity of this trueness of this movie.

I am a proud Indian, born and bred in Durban South Africa. We arrived in Port Natal in 1860 and served indentures hip for 5 years. Our ancestors were paid a pittance and life was very difficult. After hours they would fish to sustain their families. They were called the Sienne Netter's who plyed the sea trade and to this day very few of the Sienne Netter's exist. Apartheid was another pandemic we suffered since 1948 to 1994. Today we have risen above all challenges and are traditionally and culturally rooted, just like my brothers and sisters in Guyana.
