Functionally, the stock OS on this model is quite good. It's the only linux-based OS for it that I could find which effortless supports every variation of wifi, bluetooth, hdmi, and audio setting I threw at it. It's a great mobile, and then quickly console-izes by rebooting, plugging in an hdmi cable, and pressing the connect button on any of my several wireless controllers. Painless support for dualshock controllers either wired or over bluetooth if you want to avoid the builtin dpad (just works). Picture forced to 1280x1024@75hz (with 'pixel perfect' integer scaling set) is super solid on my big TV, with the numerous included PSX and Arcade emulators. Comes with a ton of nice shaders too (under Retrorarch/quick menu/shaders). Bigass shaders will overwhelm it though ;) I don't mess much with hotkeys or other in-depth RA configs, nor with non-PSX/non-Arcade emulation, so there might be some other issues I haven't encountered...
Your video is very helpful. I followed the Retro Arena Tech Toy Tinker tutorial but I wish I had yours a few days back, when I came across some of the same problems as you. Also to share my experience: I could not get the device to work properly when trying to use a single card… but that could be attributed to the card brand I was using (Patriot). I switched back to my SP card for the OS and I’m using the stock game card in slot 2 without any issues. It’s a great little device for fighting games and I’m keeping it maxed out at PS1. I’m not even going to bother with N64, Dreamcast or Saturn. I also have a couple of custom themes, which I think you should have covered in your tutorial.
1. Does it run Saturn Games the same or better than stock? 2. Can I set hotkeys and save the overrides without hidden sh scripts that reset all my confit files? (Stock firmware problem) 3. Can I use shaders? Current CFW problem. There are firmwares that solve EACH OF THESE PROBLEMS… yet none solve them ALL at the same time. Currently have to use stock firmware for Saturn Games and Android for Genesis games… not what I wanted…
Nice video! Just ordered this exact color for Xmas for kids to enjoy since the controls are simpler, and they just want to play scrollers/arcade games. And it's fine if they bash this one, lol. How's the CFW performance vs stock?
@@JoeysRetroHandhelds i have ordered one, so cant wait to test this. Im still wondering if rg353p(s) would be a better choice, in terms of ergonomics and overall feeling. I had a genesis back in the day, but the 353p seems to be awesome as well. What do you think?

Phew finally got my GG super plus going :) If anyone reads this and are worried about the Wolfenstein and Scum, popping up U can just hide them... its OK
I have a question about Retro Arena. I'm trying to save my button configurations for fighting games like Street Fighter, when I exit the game and come back it doesn't save my settings on my Anbernic Arc-D. Do you have any tips?
Every time I do the last update my audio volume control gets borked, simply doesn't work anymore. Without update instead works fine. I tried on several SD cards and multiple flashing.
There is some progress in this firmware,? I tried up to beta 9, but it wasn't going well at all, and at the moment I haven't seen any more betas, it seemed like a very interesting project as an alternative to the original firmware.
ok thanks Don't you have a website where you can see the progress? since the other drive that I had posted only had betas 8 and 9, and this one with 10 is different @@JoeysRetroHandhelds
@@JoeysRetroHandhelds I have been able to test it a little, I still have to dedicate hours to it, but it seems much more stable than beta 9, I think it promises a lot, I am looking forward to the final version. And some new theme, apart from the switch one
Yea I don't think this OS is ready yet, and it looks like the development has come to a full stop, quite sad; I can't get any saturn games to boot, through either retroarch or from standalone, it just boots back to the game menu.
You'll have to follow the guide and format it as NTFS, but no you don't flash the second SD card for roms, you just copy the folders over from the SD2 zip.
@@JoeysRetroHandhelds yeah I misunderstood. I followed it and it worked. Unfortunately I still get audio skipping issues on my favorite game Shining the Holy Ark, then I tried to fix it and corrupted my whole saturn folder. I might wait a long time until we get future final versions.
Sorry, all works but saturn games sucks with 2 emulator, some games not recognized, the rom are good and work on other system, i have all bios in bios directory, i download core for all my games, i update them, i scrap everything but even if i change some option nothing is better, psx and saturn sucks, games not stay in memory like onionos on miyoo, no game switcher on handled is a shame. I'm disapointed with arc-d. Tried Gammaos and RetroArena but idk i think i will go with stock until a good firmware come, stock sucks too and the link for linux arc v11 are all dead. I back to miyoo mini with onion and sell the Anbernic piece of sh*t.
havent tried this firmware but psx was running pretty well on the gamma os (not my favorite but i dont have 2 branded sd cards to try this method) saturn didnt really work though, sega cd, 32x and older systems worked good too
The thing that makes this better than every single other emulation device is the 6 button sega layout. I have an AYANEO Pocket Air, a Rog Ally , and a Steam Deck and the Arc is what I play retro on the most.
You have no idea what you're talking about. This is a Sega style handheld with incredible d-pad and buttons; it has a unique 6-button layout. No Odin Pro will give you the same value. Let's take power out of the equation, it doesn't matter here.
This device is perfect for the SF2 and fighting game lovers from back in the day, and with this cfw it's fricken awesome!
Did you get all 6 front buttons to work with this custom firmware for fighting games?
I want to get this device to play marvel vs street fighter
Not with this cheap buttons believe me i have arc-d

That was great, thank you for the review, well shot video! :)

Does anybody know of a Mac program that one can use in place of Rufus? Or tell me how to use Disk Image to accomplish the same thing. Thank you!
Balena-etcher works well for flashing a disc image, might give that a try.

I put all Saturn bios in the bios folder on sd2 but it’s not being recognized. Every game I try to load just says “bios not found.”
