r/Prorevenge In today's episode, OP was the targeted by a car thief! Luckily, he caught the robber in the act and was able to scare her off. The thief was so startled by OP that she dropped her UNLOCKED phone in OP's car and left it behind when she ran off. OP found the phone and saw that it was still logged into her social media. So, OP began systematically ruining this thief's life by posting all of her illegal, dirty secrets online to her friends and family!

I find it funny that Tony threatens and tries to haggle with OP when they have no leverage, especially legally. Also Tony was being less then cordial or professional and thatâs me being generous too Tony.
Clearly, he was used to intimidating people into giving him what he wanted. He didnât reckon with OP getting the knowledge needed to call his bluff. I hope OP took his friend who gave him the advice out for a nice, expensive dinner!

I don't think OP is IT, he's a contractor who sold hardware and cybersecurity to someone who tried to screw him over, an it person is something who digitally goes over a companies information, work sceduale, billing, revenue ext. true OP did do IT work but that was ultimately his profession, he even said IT was a side business,

At work, I rely on a co-worker for monthly staffing data for one of my reports. That co-worker is also the recipient of one of my other monthly reports.
One day I had finished the report she receives and I still hadn't got the staffing data from her so I sent her an email along the lines of "I have the report you want. If you want to see it alive, deliver the staffing data in a plain brown envelope..." I mucked about with different fonts, font sizes, colours etc to make it look like it had been put together out of cut up magazine letters and I included an excerpt from the report she wanted - yep, I _cut off a piece of it_ and sent it to her...
This was over 10 years ago. A Minister at a popular Church told his parishioners to leave there phones in their cars as the ringing was disrupting the service. Someone heard about this & using a specialized tool broke into many cars & stole a big number of phones.
One of the phones was an early smart phone with a tracker app. The owner informed the police of this & they followed the signal to the location of the smart phone. To make a long story short not only were all the phones recovered but so was a large amount of other stolen property. This resolved many home break ins from all across the County.
First story:
If Tony couldn't afford 8k, why would he get the 8k version instead of the 3k version? And then when OP took off the server, he became mad and would sue OP, which doesn't make sense. And he even ended up paying like twice the price. Lol i love that story

It wasn't a matter of affording. It was a matter of wanting to pay or not. People like that exist. They'll take what they think they can and won't feel bad about it.
In the Tony story, you used the Karen voice for the lady but I think she was more fed up than anything when she said "of course it's 15K". My impresion of the situation at least.
Yeah sounds more like she was fed up with her dad lying... I assume he told her it was $12k, and she knew he was a liar and that was why she double checked with OP. That's why she probably sounded rude when she said "of course it's 15k", she was directing her frustration at her father, not OP. Sounds like she was just tired of her dads antics as she was literally coaching him on what to say to OP.
Considering that she didnât argue with OP about how to do the payment I think she just had enough of her fathers BS

Reminds me a little of when a thief knew enough to break into my motherâs car without leaving any outward signs, but didnât know how to move the gearshift stick, so they couldnât slide the radio out far enough to finish stealing it. Not all thieves are very smart.

Someone posted a clip on social media on how her car was broken into, but the the thief stupidly left their phone in there. The clip was then posted on Reddit, where I discovered it (I think it was r/Iamapieceofs**t). The clip is unrelated to the ProRevenge story as far as I know.
How criminally stupid does one have to be to leave something like that behind?
Elizabeth (who left her stuff) actually did try to get her stuff but the owner wouldnât let her. They only gave her her meds as I recall.

It's honestly no surprise that someone who would stoop as low as to be a career criminal would not only be stupid enough to save evidence that can link them to a whole plethora of unsolved crimes, but also store it in such a way that it can be easily misplaced and found by someone who are moral enough to frame them. Criminals may be crafty at times, but never underestimate how stupid they can also be.

nope. a lot of big cities donât give a damn about petty crimes unless they have to. paperwork is a pain, they will avoid it as much as possible and ignore investigations even if they know who did it because it wonât do anything

think of what happened as taking out a car loan or mortgage on your house. what happens when you default on the loans? your home or car gets repossessed, which was what happened there. the guy owed money and as the IT guy owned the equipment legally until the payment was made to him he had every right to repossess the equipment
I think the last story was similar to one I seen in court cam. This guy was a huge amount in a lottery. Then this woman became his benefiter. Then suddenly he die and she have all the money. Luckily she was caught and sentence to prison.
A similar thing happened to me and my brother. Where a guy broke in to both of our cars but left his phone in my brother's jeep. Unfortunately for him the police did catch him earlier that night and were very much interested in having the phone.

If the IT guy had deleted the disk he would find him self in a really bad place. The data wasn't his to mess with.
Not necessarily. He had a mechanic's lien on the equipment because idiotic Tony and his daughter wouldn't pay the man like he asked. True, Tony could sue for the data - but that would introduce a whole new dilemma. Then he'd have to pay the tech for the equipment and labor as well once it comes out in court WHY the server was removed.

The subject of the last story is really just the tip of the "iceberg". There are many thieves who "work" as care givers. Some are family members but some are strangers. It's an area that is not well regulated and not fully prosecuted. I got a small peek into this area of crime from a boyhood friend who became a captain in a major police department. He also got scammed.
