  • Embarking on a self-guided Game of Thrones tour, we take a look at ALL the real life locations where the show was filmed in Dubrovnik and compare it to what it looks like in the show.
Finding these locations was not easy and required a lot of research and one of my main source of guidance was this article written on hellojetlag (link below). The article is extremely detailed and explains very well how to get from one location to the next as well as the cinematic context behind each location. Check it out if you wish to do your own DIY Game of Thrones tour in Dubrovnik.
On that note, I hope this video was entertaining and helps you with your Dubrovnik adventures. Be sure to leave a like and subscribe for more travel related epicness.
Great DIY GUIDE to all the locations in Dubrovnik (not mine):

I had a game of thrones themed year-end vacation 2023 last month October 1-16 from ( Daenerys Targaryen’s throne and dragons’s room) Diocletian Palace in Split to Old City of Dubrovnik ( King’s landing ) to Trogir ( City of Qarth ) to Klis Fortress ( City of Meereen ) to lokrum island ( where the iron throne is as well as the scenes where Daenerys visited the king of spices/spice king) to ( the house of the undying ) to the place where Tyrion said where is the God of Tits and wine literally every point in Dubrovnik where the scenes of Game of thrones were filmed and I must say that vacation is worthy of every Euros and efforts of driving on a mototcycle from Austria to Game of thrones locations in Croatia and efforts of walking tours…it is one of many vacations that I treasure.

Not all scenes. A lot, lot more are shoot in Dubrovnik and Dubrovnik area. You need to go in Arboretum Trsteno (Dubrovnik). A lot of scenes are filmed there.

    • @DavidCao

Virtually like 90% of Americans coming to Dubrovnik does so because of the knights, castles, dungeons and dragons, which in itself is such a pathetic thing to watch. You'd think TV series fans and young people, but hey - these are very often old folks. No, I'm not against movie fans and people who just want to see shooting locations of their favourite flick. It's the ignorance of all other things, offerings, history, and places to see in Croatia that I don't like. There used to be a "map" of the world by Americans, I saw it once in the Internet, and where's normally Europe there was an outline of the continent, all green and with the words on it: "there be dragons". That pretty much says it all about American mentality and understanding of the world.

Croatia has some of the most beautiful spots along the Adriatic Sea. Some say that the Adriatic Sea is the most healthy (the air!!), beautiful, peaceful (no typhoons nor tornados, no earthquakes thus no tsunamis), and holiday friendly sea with the most interesting and prosperous trade and connections. Croatia has Opatija which was literally THE go-to place for rich people in the Habsburg empire during summer holidays. Also, the Dalmatian region is a peaceful heaven❤
It's a pity that the Croatians themselves don't have much presentable cinematography nor the ressources to pull off something well. If only they stepped up their game (pun intended) and pulled a The Witcher on one of their novels (ofc with international help, if otherwise not possible). The Serbians have a few VERY good telenovellas, which would be also received well internationally because of their similarity to settings and stories like Pride and Prejudice - unfortunately, they're in Serbian thus hardly anyone will bother. But maybe things will change, who knows. People are also watching anime in original Japanese, and k-dramas in Korean. So who knows what will blow up in future entertainment😆

I came there on a Celebrity Beyond Cruise for the day and while I thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful town of Dubrovnik, I had an unfortunate racial profiling incident in the small GOT merchandise store. Being singled out and then blatantly followed every step around the store to where I felt very uncomfortable, soured my experience! Black people beware!
