What do sclerotic lesion on spine mean? - Dr. Kodlady Surendra Shetty

Sclerosis means the hardening of the bone or extra bone formation in a particular region. It could be physiological or it could be pathological. For example near the facet joint o near the end plates of the disc, in degenerative changes, there could be protective sclerosis. They could be normal, physiological. So nothing to worry. Sometimes it could be a part of a disease like osteoid osteoma. So in such cases we need to worry. Suppose it is painful and it is pointing to a sclerotic lesion, then we need to take MRI, CT scan , x-rays and all these and find exactly what exactly is this sclerotic lesion and if it is giving problem then definitely it can be excised, it can be removed.

Is this Modic changes? Have that and a lesion on the thoracic spine in the bone marrow.

i underwent nephrecromy one month now.before the operation i was advised to undergo ct scan.in my ct scan there are sclerotic foci on my t1 and L5..im worried about it but i dont have any idea about it.i had my right kidney removed because of grade 4 hydronephrosis..please enlighten me of my worries.thank u
