  • I love playing this Cooperman "Liberty" model, rope drum! Honestly, the best way to play traditional "ancient style" American snare drum beats is on a rope drum. They were made for each other. The rope drum demands a different technical approach from the modern style.

Nice rudimental drumming my friend!! I'm 77 in July, a member of the National Association of Rudimental Drummers and a former snare drummer for the Blessed Sacrament Golden Knights drum corps taught by the legendary drum instructor the late Mr. Bobby Thompson from 1963 till 1965!! Bob Love

Thank you! The Golden Knights, a legendary corps. I'm friends with Jim Hurley. Were they still teaching the Bobby Thompson traditional grip when you were in the corps?

It's great to see somebody, playing real rudiments the way they were meant to be played. Great job cooperman drums, are one of the best. I've always meant to purchase one in fact I still have that catalog, but I had a arm and hand injury, that no longer allows me to drum. But I do have a slingerland snare drum, that I purchased in August of 1958, single lug double tension, years ago I put on mylar heads, still has the original catgut, and strainer. It sounds like the first day that I played it. It's the only item that I kept, through all my years oh, I will be 79 in September, and my snare drum is on display, all the time. I learned Connecticut halftime back in the mid-50s, my drama instructor was Eddie Fitzgerald, very popular drum judge, Easton judges Association. I was a member of the olph, drum and bugle Corp, from Brooklyn New York, 1956 through 1959, join the Floyd Bennett golden eagles , from Brooklyn New York, I played snare drum there, in 1960 and 1961. At the start of the 1962 season I had an accident that's why I hurt my right hand and arm, if it want for my twin brother, I would have probably lost my hand, may he rest in peace. I was still able to drum a bit but not on a competitive level, so I left Floyd Bennett at the start of the 1962 season. Then I joined the Long Island Sunrisers 1964 through 1968, still want to be part of the Drumline, so I played symbols. MO Knox, refer to us as the dynamic duo, we used large symbols at that time and got much attention. Mo was the official photographer for the Drum Corps, world. We appeared on front page, of Drum Corps World newspaper, there is a photograph of the two of us, history of drum and bugle Corps volume two, in the sunrise section. I won't mention the other symbol players named he may not appreciate that. Today is June 23rd 2022. In 1992, after going through 18 and a half hours of spine surgery, I became good friends with, John Dowling, may he rest in peace. He is the person that developed backsticking, and used it I believe it was 1960, with the Air Force drum and bugle Corps from quartet. That was the very first time they used backsticking and took first place with their drunk quartet, national champions. American Spirit was from the Tampa Bay Florida area.
I apologize for any errors in my comment I depend on voice recognition, I am visually impaired makes it very difficult for me to make Corrections.

Thank you, James. Audio recordings cannot do that drum justice. In person, it has a percussive punch you can feel in your gut.

Very nice presentation. He makes the original more difficult by playing flam paradiddles instead of paradiddles. But hey, what the heck, it works! Maybe I'll start playing it that way. Also, I like the crescendoed 15-stroke rolls.

Meanwhile, while Ed is playing Connecticut Halftime, I walk in and borrow his 1970's
Slingerland TDR snare drum for let's say......10 or so years! Ha!
