      The "Lark Rise" parody is so close to the actual drama--! Well played.

    The comedy is in the brilliance of the characters. This might be too subtle for those who need things spelled out for them.

    Three Brilliant Sketches Written By Victoria Wood | Midlife Christmas | Universal Comedy 16.3.24 acorn antiques is my thing...if mother has had a turn and ends up in dock, it always reminds me of acorn antiques...quite telling, really.

      We only recenly discovered Acorn Antiques (found the full series of sketches on CZcams) and it's surreally great. Only someone who truly understood soap operas, British character acting, and how TV shows are made, could have created it. It's the best bad television show ever. And with each episode, the gaffes in "filming" the "show" get worse (and the humor funnier).

      @@cruz9530 Comments on ‘Three Brilliant Sketches Starring Victoria Wood | Midlife Christmas | Universal Comedy’ 19.3.24 0410am a lot funnier than nuclear testing in the south seas, granted... and not the kindda show you need to apologize for - it being so bad it's good. though, again, it's contrived to be so - as opposed to: 'hang on a minute.... you should have entered stage left and the set's still wobbling' kindda effort - refer to crossroads -which was a big fav of some relations many moons ago. i never got crossroads so there you go... allegedly the bold and the beautiful was akin to that kindda caper. though i watched bold and the beautiful and it was basically all close ups and chat - no real action or movement.... no overly risible gaffes. yeah; acorn antiques as a gem. and a lot of folk i knew would watch the victoria wood and julie walters show just for that skit.... a little bird tells me a greet many stoner households used to roll a spiff and sit and watch that show - much to their and the household's joy. sadly it was sobriety culture in my home during that period. shame... probably is drugged up consumer culture televisual entertainment... and i wonder if they collected all the episodes and realised it on dvd? it's a must see, really...

    What's with the laugh track. Shows little confidence in getting a laugh from the audience.

      It’s decades old. It’s what they did.

    • @cruz9530
      @cruz9530 Před měsícem

      Not sure how old you are, but the lack of a laugh track is a relatively recent thing with recorded TV comedy. Laugh tracks were required by networks in the UK and the US too, for decades. Many comedy writers and producers loathed them but were forced to include them "because every show does it." It's good that the laugh track is dead now. But Victoria Wood's work never needed one -- it was only there because it was "the done thing" and the Beeb/ITV/etc. woudln't have run ANY comedy show in those years without one. Don't judge Wood's work by the inclusion of a laugh track!

    Waited 2 minutes for a punchline. Left.

      This isn't "punchline" comedy with jokes that have setup and punchline. It's character comedy. It's also parodies of TV shows you might not know, so you couldn't be expected to find it funny (understandably!).
