A great combination of Madurai Maniiyer's impeccable sruthi and GNB type faster tempo raga alapana.T V Sankaranarayanan is GOD's gift to carnatic music lovers all around the world . He has been singing like this since 1970 and after 45 years he is a force to reckon with. May be some sort of a world record. I pray to GOD he continues to enlighten us with the same zeal and energy for many generations
I'll be hearing to TVS in San Diego on my son's birth day. My comments are reserved till then : comparing him to Madurai Mani Iyer. I have great devotion to the 1960s mani iyer, Chembai, Ariakudi, GNB, Semmangudi. Because of them Thyagaraja is not waking up nowdays.
Simply marvellous! It's a great team where each performer anticipates the other's impending move and plays. Thiruvarur Sri Bhaktavatsalam's mrudangam accompaniment is impeccable and so melodious.
Thank you so much. The first time I heard Intha Sowka was from a recording made in Sanmughananda Hall TVS and M Chandrasekaran. Ever since I have been searching for that recording but never found it. This was a great subsititute. If any one has the sanmuganada hall recording or if my friend ganesh sees this do contact me
Big Thank You for sharing a full 1-hour of this great artiste! Excellent sound quality too. To "uxvxr" : I cut out the 'funky music' using Real Player Trim. You have to first download it using Real Player of course...which is quite simple.
Another point is TVS hurries through his songs and the relaxed tone of his uncle MMI's is conspicuously absent, in these aspects he resembles the maestro Ariyakudi who was well known for his rapid fire performance of different kritis. So you can say TVS has made a style of his own, which is likable or not depends on the listener.
Excellent performance. Thanks. There is a difference between Madurai Mani and TVS though TVS is one of the foremost disciples of MMI. - Actually MMI is his maternal uncle. Firstly TVS does not have such control over his voice like MMI had, as he appears to shout in many places. Second he is straining or appears to make a fuss when he sings , and he appears to be self conscious , little more than necessary, which robs his performance of the bhava in MMI's music ,TVS has created his own style.
all of you commenting here , enjoy the music if you want .else don't listen .simple :) nothing to complicate .its just ones personal likes and dislikes. I may like an orange and hate apple . Someone may have vice versa likes and dislikes. at the end of the day both are beautiful and tasty fruits :)
I am pained to read some comments below. Comparing him to MMI my favourite since childhood. I give TVS 80 per cent of MMI. TVS cannot be compared to anybody. He has never gone out of sruti in his any performance .His raga alapanas are great after GNB.Shouting is not the attribute with TVS.FUll throated singing.Swara singing nobody can match him. WE have no right to comment on him.Sorry.Shankar
For unfortunate people like us, who could not get to hear great Mani Iyer Sir, GNB sir, Shri Shankarnarayan Sir is a boon by Almighty!
