Legendary Hacksaw Jim Duggen was also an SMU football player. He was team captain and got his degree in Plant Biology.

SMU beat TCU for 15 years straight, 1975 - 1986, that should be our longest wining streak

Hah, turns out Walker was right thinking that we didn’t have longer than a 4 win streak seemed wrong.

I think that SMU has the financial resources and location in a talent-rich area to be a baseball powerhouse. The number in parentheses by each school's name is how many times they have appeared in the the College World Series. The second number, if applicable, is how many national titles they have won. Here's a list of some of the MLB players who have been through other ACC schools:
Cal (6)(2): Marcus Semien, Jeff Kent, Mark Canha, Bob Melvin.
Stanford (19)(2): Steve Buechele (Shane's Dad), Mike Mussina (HOF), Jed Lowrie, Cal Quantrill.
Florida State (24): Buster Posey, J.D. Drew, Deion Sanders, Tony La Russa (HOF), Cal Raleigh.
Miami (25)(4): Mike Piazza (HOF), Ryan Braun, Aubrey Huff, Pat Burrell.
Georgia Tech (3): Mark Teixiera, Nomar Garciaparra, Jason Varitek, Charlie Blackmon, Marlon Byrd, Kevin Brown.
Louisville (5): Will Smith (the catcher), Adam Duvall, Nick Solak, Henry Davis.
Boston College (4): Sal Frelick, Michael King.
Syracuse (1): Basically nobody. Baseball program was shut down in 1972.
Duke (3): Marcus Stroman, Dick Groat, Chris Capuano.
Notre Dame (3): Carl Yastrzemski (HOF), Cap Anson (HOF), Craig Counsell, Brad Lidge, Jeff Samardzija.
NC State (4): Trea Turner, Andrew Knizner, Patrick Bailey, Carlos Rodon.
North Carolina (12): Kyle Seager, Brian Roberts, Andrew Miller, Chris Iannetta, Matt Harvey, Zac Gallen.
    Pitt (0): Basically nobody.
Wake Forest (3)(1): Chris Getz, Gavin Sheets, Stuart Fairchild.
Clemson (12): Spencer Strider, Jimmey Key, Brad Miller, Eli White, Steven Duggar.
Virginia (7)(1): Josh Sborz (2015 CWS MVP), Ryan Zimmerman, Mark Reynolds, Zack Gelof, Chris Taylor, Pavin Smith, Sean Doolittle.
Virginia Tech (0): Johnny Oates, Kerry Carpenter, Joe Saunders, Joe Mantiply.

Maybe SMU should just buy DBU

@@TheMustangMood I actually looked up DBU’s alumni when doing this research. They’ve got a few fringe guys in the majors right now, but not many. By far the most successful player they’ve ever produced is Ben Zobrist, who was a 2x World Series Champions and somewhat of a trailblazer for the analytics age with his elite defense.

The important thing about jersey design is recruiting. Recruits care deeply about how they will be presented on the field. The Dallas on the jerseys helped significantly in recruiting. Tcu messed up those new jerseys so bad.

There’s no way on earth the ACC falls apart..even after losing fsu and Clemson. We’re good.

@@AuRoBoss the pac only had 8 schools after they lost their big 4. We’ll have 15 after we lose the big 3, if we even lose all 3. And our tv deal WILL continue until 2036. We’re going to make it.

I’ll be real. I don’t think baseball at SMU is a realistic possibility financially until we get our full share from the ACC. We have to make sure our existing athletic department can be strong competitors consistently and it would be much harder to do that if we’re building a baseball stadium from scratch and funding 2 brand new programs. I think the easiest pairing to baseball would be women’s lacrosse because we already have a field to play it on and we could integrate their facilities easily around that.

I definitely think taking on one thing at a time is probably the best choice. Hopefully we do see that growth into other sports in the future.
