- Hidden menu in BMW 5-Series E39 (1995-2004) gives access to diagnostic tests and readouts from various sensors in your car. Check battery voltage, fuel level, sound chime, displays and indicators, perform gauge sweep (needle test) and more.
This service mode is made for early diagnostics of your instrument cluster and other vehicle components.

Is it possible to change langage ? My e39 doesn't have the gps, and i have putted an Android in it
This is great! My car shuts down at "30L" of Diesel, now I can debug the problem! (BTW my e39 525 TDS anly as one left button, I did not need the code, but in order to unlock the other menus I had to turn the engine on). The #14 trouble codes appear if there is some "trouble" or they are always there? Thanks!

Can this be used to reset the seatbelt warning? Had to remove the seat and seatbelt of course to fix the twisted seat now the seatbelt warning is constant.
Can the units for the odometer and trip be switch from mls to km? Mine are currently km, but I'm selling the car to a guy from the US.
Is there a combo in EINHEIT that can be setup for this?
How could I change the language to English...I unlocked the menu and after that I went to under menu 10 and when I tried to press 2 for English it stays on 00 D not moving. Please help!

I am wondering if my check engine light works or not. I have a minor issue, possibly bad MAF, not sure. When I turn the car on (but not start engine) the words "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light does light up. But it doesn't during the Test No 2 cluster test. Is this normal? Is my CEL the "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" message? I wonder this because it doesn't light up, although I have an engine issue, and when I go to test 14, I get 5 different DIAG codes. They are each 7 characters long (mostly letters) so not typical OBD2 codes. Thanks...

What about the test 01 . What is it about
I'd imagine the Bimmer plant locked the cluster because they knew people would eventually start poking around in the system's menu and end up screwing it all up and ending up with a cluster panel not working at all. It has a lock code for a reason. The only option I useful within the service menu is the cluster pannel test.

Not 100% sure but it might be controlled directly from the ECU.

I have a funky issue with my very low mileage almost new e39 528i 1998.
After driving 5 hours on the rain (like a mist in some parts) and parked in front of the house for 3 weeks (because poring rain and ice at nights).
And when decided to run the car, had a longer crank than normal, engine start misfire drove it fir while and when stop engin shuts off.
When wait for 20min. (cool down) it started no problem and after worm up stops again?
Changed sparkplugs but still the same.
No Ceck Engine Lights!
I realised my Front Right Low Beam is buzzing and sometimes even lights up and go even with key in my pocket?
Short Circuit somewhere?
And after connecting with INPA Can see Engine management light is on (on my PC nit on the Clouster)?
I'll do the Clouster test now ti see if will light up.

@@shefketmustafa9228 I have the same problem. Check engine light never comes on even in test. I think it might be normal. Mine is a 1997 and it seems that some early cars have check engine lights that never light up
@@willsaund13 I have a 1998 model and the CEL does not light up, even on a test. I have the pre-OBDII connecter under the hood/bonnet and I did read that these models still use the older OBDI protocol and do not have a functoning CEL. Despite a section for it in the cluster.

mine had a coil problem.replaced it and it worked.try looking iinto that.

If the car doesn't crank and doesn't start, you probably have a bad starter.
Happened to me once in my 540i, I had to hammer on one of the terminals a little bit because the connection was loose
check fuse under air filter in hood and u may have flooded motor when u turn key keep foot on gas all the way and keep trying with foot on gas all the way if that dont work take out all spark plugs and put one tea spoon of oil in each hole from spark plugs then install back on and try again to start car

Could just be a bad crankshaft position sensor. It’s under the car. One screw and it pops out. It’s not hidden under the plastic cover, it’s literally right there infront of you.
how to change the language from german to english ? i removed the original navigation that the car has and since my battery dies its in german...

When you shift the car manually, you see what gear you're in by looking there

Anyone who can help my E39 temp gauge stays pegged at red even when car is cold. Car doesn't over heat just the needle stays the. Please assist. It's a 540i 2001 Manual
Check if the temp sensor wiring is OK. Looks like signal line is short to positive.

You need to go to test no. 19, and then enter your code (29).
