    You can reset the service lights without a tool. I've done it myself on my 2002 525i
    Iginition OFF (POS 0) with key in.
    - Press and Hold the trip odometer button while turning key to position 1 (ACCESSORY)
    - Keep the button depressed (about 5 secs.) until you see "Oil Service" or "Inspection" with "Reset" or "Re" in the display
    - *Note: On vehicles with "High" cluster, you will also see the amount of fuel (in litres) remaining until next service
    - Press the button again and hold for approx. 5 secs. until "Reset" or "Re" flashes
    - While the display is flashing, briefly press the button again to reset the Service Interval. After the display has shown the new interval you should see "END SIA" for about 2 secs.
    You're welcome =]

    In response to upthevolume2007 comment . All is correct, but on my manual 530 I have to keep the clutch pedal pressed all the way down to the floor as you go through the process to reset the service lights . I can only assume that's the same for all manual models . It's certainly the case for my car .

    Great video...very clear. I assume when you restart the ignition everything is back as it was before the tests? Do you know if the OBC takes engine temp from the same sensors as those which inform the dials ie the coolant temp sensor?

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  Před 10 lety

      Yes, it will be normal after one start cycle. And it does reference those same sensors that feed the dials.

    you do not need a toll, find socket 19 on you diag socket, in engine bay, make sure 19 is earth, test by putting a continuity metre between that socket and the chassis, then get a piece of snug fitting wire and jump 19 and 7
    easy
    thanks for this info tho

    Is it possible to change these values?

    Hey, I have a E39 and on the cluster whenever I start my car up and it's running the battery light stays on. Any ideas why this is? the battery is good and the alternator works... can this be reset or turned off somehow?

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  Před 10 lety

      You can try a cluster reset in the OBC. But usually that means a failing battery or alternator.
