- I spend one night in the ultra-luxury and world-famous Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo in Monaco, A 5-star hotel located in the heart of Monaco with a pool and restaurants. It's been in movies, tv shows BUT is it worth the hype and should you stay here?

The Gritti Palace in Venice is well worth a visit
House of Gods Glasgow 🥳🥳

Almost $2K for a balcony room on the 1st floor - not even a suite. Holes in the pillow and some worn furniture pieces. The steak frites were overpriced and no excuse for a 40 minute wait. The meat didn’t even look very good. Breakfast looked good and public areas were gorgeous. But what was really unacceptable was the lack of warmth or even decent service. Strong pass for me, even if money were no object.
My thoughts exactly
Exactly the steak and chips looked dry no trimmings and not cheap
Helped me to jump over this over priced unfriendly hotel. Thanks.
Totally agree, I will never travel to France no matter the circumstances, they absolutely despise European or Caucasian people period. Very racist country.
Beautiful hotel. poorService and bad manners from staff not acceptable 45 minutes for a 🥩🤷♂️ it’s a no from me
Tim is like our secret mole in the world of the rich.
He is. I love how he's just a normal guy and down to earth
😂😂😂 so true!
Don't you mean the world of the pretentious.
Imagine F1 pit commentator Ted Kravitz casually turning up to this hotel in his trademark shorts & sandals? Plus you’d think a room with a balcony literally overlooking Monaco’s 2nd corner would be flawless to the last fabric!
He's like Robin Leach but without the stupid accent.
Tim, when you encounter these rude "people," remember, only unhappy people treat others badly. We are All with you there, Tim.
I lived in Monaco decades ago as a Nanny. It was run by a mafia and you had to tip everywhere you went, as the family of my charge would give me the money to do it otherwise they would totally ignore you.
I speak fluent French and it made no difference at all to their aloofness. 😂 I have only seen the front inside of the casino which apparently was all re done in 2019.
I was told that there is a secret underground from the hotel to the casino, but haven't experienced that.
The best experience I had was to be invited onto some of the massive yachts. Even the vases onboard were the size of a fridge freezer, everything so large and money dripping off people with designer clothes etc.
The road in Monte Carlo is the race track and many times I would drive with the children I nannyed for, pretending to be a race driver 😊 had great fun 🚗😊
Enjoyed your video, lovely to remember and to see the changes. I still prefer living on the Greek Islands, people are so friendly. Maybe you can visit one of them one day 😊
Lovely story, thanks for sharing
For all the hype, I'd say not up to par. Torn pillow, chipped bedside tables, stuffy staff...I'd say no to this one!
I was surprised tbh how they thought that's ok .. when some of the guests must have very high standards
I wonder if the Fairmont had torn pillow slips?

What did they say when you told them about pillow etc?
@@jaynewelch218 ? good question I wonder if he mentioned it to them .

True class is accepting people for who they are
In Germany, my daughter and I went into a very expensive clothes shop. The lady, whose family owned the shop, was lovely
It was very clear that we were financially not her target market, but she was so friendly and relaxed with us, exactly how it should be - regardless of finances, we should treat each other with respect
Indeed mark of true class in an establishment is that they treat everyone equally and make no assumptions about how much money you might have. The places that act pretentious are often for wannabes and people that want to pretend they are better than everyone else so they like feeling like the riff raff are being kept out while they get treated better, it's an ego trip. I'd wager this hotel is the place in Monaco that people traveling beyond their means want to stay in because of the name, meanwhile the standards and service has slipped and the truly wealthy have moved on to somewhere else because they don't care about bragging they stayed there.
Yes indeed, you said a mouthful right there and I (& many others, I’m sure) couldn’t agree more !!
I had the same experience at a “salon” in Rome. The owner was amazing & I have the wonderful memory of being in there. It was very special, respectful, warm and friendly.
While I agree with that attitude, I do think the location of the Hotel de Paris makes it hard to keep that attitude.
Treating every tourist that goes in there as a potential billionaire and giving them the same treatment as they would a guest is simply not possible.
Of course, and yes I would agree -a billionaire in a hotel is bound to get exclusive top class treatment because they’ve paid for it. Not every one can have the same level of service.
But that’s not the point I was making. My point is that it’s not necessary to treat people with disdain simply because you think they aren’t financially viable. You can still be polite and pleasant.
Also - one day - that person you’ve been rude to, may just become financially viable. It’s why the famous dress shop scene in Pretty Woman is so memorable.
"Benidorm vibes" -priceless. Staff attitude reminds of the movie Pretty Woman where Vivienne tries to buy clothes in a snooty fashion shop on Rodeo Drive.
Another place I don't want to visit. Balzac's quote about "behind every great fortune, lies a great crime" is what I'm reminded of when I see opulence like that.
True, none becomes a billionaire by being nice, having morals, following the law, honest business. practices.
Any hotel worth its name should start by having the right attitude from their staff. It makes such a difference.
No they don't need to have the right attitude for tourists wanting to take selfies and those who book a single night for a novelty experience, these establishments exist to cater for the wealthy.
If its yet another branch of a Premier Inn or Double Tree then the complaints of rude + poor service has legitimacy ...
I get what you're saying but, after all, it's a private business and they can run it how they want. I'm sure they deal with a lot of threats because of their rich/famous customers they get all the time. The camera that Tim carries around is probably a bit of a red flag for them. Not to mention that Monte Carlo is a huge target in and of itself.
@@ahoang9069 what if that tourist staying one night was a billionaire? I mean would they take the risk of being rude to someone they think does not have a status?
So being rude to a 1 night guest is ok ?@@ahoang9069
They were probably offended in thinking they might have bedbugs.
What I love about your videos is that they beautifully depict the feeling of tension that is inside these hotels. For 25 years I went into these places for business working for
a luxury car brand , the biggest issue I had was simply feeling out of place, I didn’t grow up with those layers of granduer so when you finally do get in there you realise not only do you have the wrong clothes but you feel like you’re even having to walk differently. The other thing I found is many of the world’s great hotels are soulless , they don’t live up to the brochures or the drone shots. So in the end , I prefer to rent an apartment or house and simply try to live in whatever area I’m visiting. So your videos serve as a useful reminder to me, to remember what is real and what is not , real is your beautiful family and friends , and whilst being able to afford whatever you want is not the worst thing in the world, neither is it the best.
Brilliant description 😀❤
Love this and totally agree 👏👏
Well said! I agree with you!

I TOTALLY AGREE. PG WODEHOUSE POINTED THAT OUT A HUNDRED YEAR AGO, BY SAYING 'YOU WENT TO A WRONG SCHOOL AND YOUR CLOTHES DON'T FIT.'
That 'adult' box is a clear indicator to me revealing the absolute debauchery that goes on, regarding the wealthy people, in that hotel.
Sadly probably prostitutes as well; i say that as i worry for their safety. Wealthy clients can be as sadistic as anyone else, but with more wads of cash.
Yup. Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut immediately popped into my mind as soon as I saw "Adult Box."😵
Oh, yes.
Monte Carlo is no longer what it was during the time of Prince Rainier. Your experience at the Paris hotel made me uncomfortable even while sitting watching at home. The money you've spent during your stay should be considered lost or thrown down the drain so never again you should have gone elsewhere. I salute your kindness and politeness.

I treat all hotel staff with respect and expect the same in return.
I would not have handled their rudeness as well as you did.
The pillow case damage speaks volumes, all frills and no knickers.
The pillow case did it for me. That's something that "can't happen" in a 5* hotel. Not for the prices they ask.

There is very little "niceness" in the world today, like in the old days. You will only get the bare minimum of service.
I am a regular guest at the hotel. And there are many things I love about the Hotel de Paris. I also smelled the smell coming from the drains in the bathroom last summer (6th floor in the rotunda - new building). I reported it and the hotel staff made an effort to remove the smell. Unfortunately to no avail. A friend who was a guest in the hotel at the same time is a civil engineer. In his opinion, the smell came from a construction error in the drainage pipes. A major intervention is needed to eliminate the problem.
Wow, that is quite a blunder with a new addition.
The SBM seem to have some issues as of late. I know they have changed some personel at the top, maybe the attention to detail wasn't the best in recent years.
Lucky you to stay there regularly my late sister has a place in menton and Iv passed this hotel many times and allways thought I’d feel not worthy to take a whiff at the drains lol

They are Not Good Enough for You, Tim. Just walk away and Ignore them. Don't give them Any Attention.
Great video as always Tim. Honestly the management really needs a good slap. Your experience with the smell in the bathroom, blocked drain, no mattress encasement, and rude staff is inexcusable. There is nothing wrong with heavy security but their presence should be concealed by being totally discreet, as to avoid guests feeling like they are under constant surveillance. Thanks for sharing Tim.

Brother Tim... That's exactly what I've been saying for ages when you got to 5 star hotels. It's a shame they weren't friendly, but it all on how you were dressed. When they see Hollister, they don't see class(don't get offended by that remark but I worked in fancy hotels and restaurants). Unfortunately those trainers, jeans and that type of clothing, I've been warning you about. They saw you and they didn't see big tip or big spender, despite the ridiculous price of the place. It's a shame people treat others like that.. but those places money and appearances are king in those countries 😢😢
It’s great that Tim walks in, being his great self, and he’s not treated well, and watched like he’s a cat burglar. This gives the majority of people the ability to see how they would be treated if they visited. Snobby place with horrible smelly bathroom, overpriced food, and beat up furniture….not worth all the money they charge.
I believe that silver thing next to the Bottle Tim is to pop on your wine bottle to keep it fresh

@@samn6498I stayed in the Hotel de Paris before the pandemic, in January 2019. I had been traveling in Provence and the Cote d’Azur and wanted to end my journey with a bang. I think I paid about €700 or €800 a night for a much better experience, with a larger room in a higher floor, also with a sea view and a view of the Prince’s palace. Weather was chill but very sunny. 38:50 Breakfast wasn’t included. The staff were very polite and helpful, maybe because there weren’t many guests. Also the casino, just a few roulette tables open. The restaurant you mentioned, Le Grill, was closed for the winter. I went instead to the Le Louis XV, which is managed by Alain Ducasse. I had an absolutely amazing dinner, very expensive, about €400, but with champagne, wines, four courses etc. I was maybe the only diner there that evening, with amazing service. Monaco runs a tight ship - I have no doubt the staff knew exactly who you were and why you were staying at the hotel.

They dont care about a man in sneakers from Essex making a CZcams video. That's not their target market and hence they treated him with the disdain they thought he deserved.

The first glass was a whiskey tumbler, second glass for wine, and third a brandy glass👌😁
And two Champagne flutes in the Hotel De Paree !
Best tour guide and hotel reviews on CZcams hands down. You rock Tim. Thank you for this video.
I was stationed in Italy in the US Navy. Our job was to bring our huge Cruiser to various ports in the Mediterranean. We dropped anchor in the port on Monaco during Grand Prix. We took small boats from our Cruiser into the City. The race was very exciting. The City draws very rich citizens from all over Europe. Unlike the US, the French take off at least a month off in the summer which doesn't even count as vacation time. Our ship ported in various cities to represent the US Military. And yes, any places that we stopped in France we experienced a lot of arrogance from the French citizens. The Hotel De Paris was a good example of the French attitude. If you are not French you are treated badly. The whole point of a five star hotel is the Service along with the location. The way you were treated is normal. Maybe your video will cause some improvements at the Hotel.
So true about their attitude in France.
The white chandelier looks the same as the one in santorini video.. that was such an epic hotel room ...with the little mini pool....
oh yes it did!
It reminded me of the green one at the savoy! I haven’t seen the Santorini video, yet.
Paying THAT MUCH to be treated with indifference by the concierge, and like an interloper by security would *really* have me feeling hacked off… 😤
I didnt feel great lol
I found this channel like 2 weeks ago and have been binge watching since, I’m not usually a fan of this type of content but I really enjoy your videos.
Same! Except I found him a couple of days ago. I love his calm demeanor. He has the same calm reaction for something positive as he does for something negative. It soothes my nerves for everything to be calm.
Whether you pay the room price (or not) ... the employees communicate in their behavior that You Don't Belong There! ... They bow and scrape to the mega rich. They exhibit a mini disdain to the rest!
Great video Tim. Could you please do a Top 5 Places to Stay video? You've been all over the world so what would you say are your top 5 favorite destinations/hotels? This could be based on value for money, quality of the rooms, the hotel, the service etc.
First of all Tim congratulations on reaching over 400,000 subscribers very well deserved 👏 i can understand the security could be tight in a hotel like with no doubt many rich & famous guests however to treat you the way they did ( even when not filming) is pretty dam unacceptable 😤 but well done Tim for keeping your composure & still giving us another fantastic detailed video 👍
Thank you very much!
Who would have thought that excessively rich people are utterly obnoxious? Shocker
It was the staff who were rude, I doubt they have much money.
Morning Tim. I really enjoyed "our" trip , I say that because its so personal , the way you come across. Thanks mate.
That thing at 6:47 - I’m going to go out on a limb & suggest that it’s a vacuum cork for the wine 🍷
The Oceanside view looked incredible and parts of the hotel looked really nice but I wouldn't pay a cent to stay in that place especially with how the staff treats you
Love your videos Tim! You reviews are very honest and detailed. Greetings from Australia !
Excellent video yet again - well done! The Old Cataract Hotel in Aswan, Egypt is both spectacular and interesting with its Agatha Christie connections. I loved it.
I love your honesty in these videos. I would hate to feel like I was being watched & suspected. Maybe they should include nose pegs as a complimentary item.
Good one.
👌🏽😆
Thanks for a great honest review
Wow Tim, it’s wonderful to see how far you’ve “travelled” with the channel! 👏This hotel was on my bucket list but I’m not sure anymore. It’s the little things that spark “joy” as noted on the welcome note. The bedside tables looked out of place and kinda dirty, bathroom plumbing issues/smells and unpleasant staff and worn pillow case were unacceptable. Beautiful views and filming of Monaco! Great filming and under difficult circumstances. 👏🌊🌅🥂
Hello there Tim and lovely family 😊!. I’ve just subscribed to your Channel after watching a few videos from you. I like from your videos the very direct approach you have with your reviews always very attentive and critical to the little both: pleasant and unpleasantness details you find in these collection of very expensive Hotels. I’ve also found helpful the total price spent for a night (including breakfast, dinner...). Thank you very for the time and work you put in each of your videos.
Thank you so much, and welcome to the channel
Excellent honest review of a hotel I will never have an opportunity to visit but wanted to see. Thank you.
Thats a reed diffuser in the bathroom not joss sticks.
Oh my goodness……I love your channel! The places you go and share are so amazing, but actually “YOU ARE THE STAR”! You are so funny, transparent and honest in your descriptions of each place you visit! KUDOS for a job well done!!!! PS…watching from Colorado 🩷
